(Man with camera at fusion fest today)
Loz replied to Becky123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Probably not enough. I would suggest instead... 1) Find out where the person lives. 2) Tell a few local parents (confidentially, of course) that you were told by a cousin that the person who lives at that address is, apparently, a known paedo. 3) At least one of these parents, and probably most of them, will ring the police and demand they investigate. 4) The police will pop around and find out the person is actually an innocent local pharmacist who voluntarily teaches sport to deprived kids on weekends. Case closed. 5) The police will enter a report on the interview on the CRB database. 6) Sometime in the next two years, the person then not only be unemployable in his chosen career, but the kids he teaches on the weekend will lose a much respected coach. Simples. -
Any grocery shops in Dulwich take a cheque?
Loz replied to ThinLizzy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Cheques are not legal tender, so shops are under no legal requirement to accept them. Ditto credit and debit cards. The only legal tender in England and Wales are Bank of England issued notes (which is why shops are also entitled to reject Scottish notes as well) and coins (though there are limitations to coins). Given the database state we now live in, there is another perspective to consider. Assume this person was a innocent photographer, getting candid photos of a public event (which is a perfectly legal hobby). As the police were called to 'check him out' there is every chance that they took his name and address, especially as they asked him to leave the area. This information will almost certainly be entered onto the Criminal Justice Bureau's database that is used to produce the Enhanced Check. So, what if this innocent photographer has a career that requires him to have the two-yearly enhanced check? In other words, not only jobs that involve regularly caring for, training, supervising or being solely in charge of children or vulnerable adults. Oh, no. Also covered are occupations connected with lotteries; placing children with foster parents; being a school governor; jobs that allow access to data concerning children and vulnerable adults; being a medical practitioner, dentist, ophthalmologist or pharmacist. If he has a job in any of these areas, this photographer's career is now effectively over. Don't believe me? This is what happens when the police 'speak to you' -

Here we go again. at least the word 'furtive' didn't appear this time. I've got to ask... would you have been so worried if it was a woman? If not, then Harriet Harman is doing her job well. -
surly black cab drivers ! (not taking fares to ED)

Yep - it's the Met Police area. -

simlqd, You are getting two 'six mile' issues confused. The Knowledge covers a six-mile radius of Charing Cross. On the other hand, a driver is obliged to take you anywhere within six miles from where you happen to be. So, if you are in, say, Camden, they can (and probably will...) refuse. -

Well ladies, I'm reliably informed that the general advice is "by the ears". -
I always thought the woman that worked at the Clipper was the bast. haven't seen her around for a while. Jimi: as you are (allegedly) new here, I'll explain. There is a sad tradition of local businesses creating a new user and posting a glowing report of their own offerings (the thread started by sadly departed Osbourne Stewart was a modern classic). As you are a new user who has posted a glowing report of a local business first up, you will, therefore, be subject to some suspicion. Stick around - it does get better. Honest!
-
Even though I find Jimi's post a little suspicious, I'm a longstanding fan of the Clipper, generally for the opposite reason to Jimi - I like my haircut without the small talk. But, as *Bob* says, ?14.50 is a little steep. What does the new LL place charge?

Piermont Road - is not a cut thro to Peckham Rye
Loz replied to BQC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Surely the obvious solution would be to chop that tree down and extend the road through to Peckham Rye?? -
Some, meaner than I, may suggest the bus is optional... :))
-
I don't want to denigrate the disabled, but surely this is not the best person to be holding a drivers licence??
-
That wasn't the infamous LLL thread, was it?

Have a biiiiig lunch before being weighed for the badge-check. And wear ski boots.

A flying clown? You gotta watch out for them in ED, you know...
-
No, they picked an empty bin. So it was Bin Unladen. I'll get me coat...

You can read under that weird blue light?

A really nice post spoilt by an unnecessary final line. What do you base this fine judgement upon? Do people "look" like they have kids, even when there is not an anklebiter in sight? Is it a smell? Hairdo? Secret handshake? Or do you just think people without kids are somehow less helpful members of society and therefore wouldn't interrupt their day to help you out? Sheesh.

Ahhh! I've seen people with white canes that don't look like they are really using them. That explains it.

Sainsbury's parking tickets have the same status as any other privately issued ticket. i.e. None, unless you are pay up 'cause you don't know better. Which is bad - maybe the council wardens should be given powers to issue tickets for disabled bays on private land? Sophiesofa: the pregnant/porky conundrum haunts me. Giving up my seat to someone who needs it more than me (whether old, injured, pregnant) puts a spring in my step for hours. But there's no way to play safe on the pregnant/porky conundrum. If she's not pregnant, she knows why you've given up your seat. So, those who are expecting: ask with a smile and you will receive your seat with a smile in return!

You want to see what the Canadians do... Poutine. Chips, some weird cheese curd stuff and gravy. Tastes better than it sounds. But only just.

I'm sure people may argue this (as (a) I have no stats and (b) people do so love to argue), but I'm willing to proffer the outrageous suggestion that, in general, richer people spend more money than poorer people. So, in the Woof Theory of Economics, should Sainsbury's be dividing the car park into 'crap' and 'posh' cars? Or, if you like, the "Sainsbury's Basics" section and the "Taste The Difference" section. You can only park here if you're in the 40% tax bracket. And, of course, being the Lidl of the motoring world, force people in Skodas to park in the street. The P13 would be re-routed to Peckham and the bus station converted to a valet parking service at a fiver a pop. Actually, Woof, I think Jeremy Clarkson might have thought of this first with his "better use for the M4 bus lane" rant.

Tapir, I read a quote the other day that seems to describe your posts: "The plural of anecdote is not data"... Anyway, I don't have a problem with P&C areas, but having them at the front is unnecessary and putting them at the back would mean that non-parents wouldn't use them.

My bank card has been "compromised"....a warning
Loz replied to FatherJack's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Always cover your hand when typing your pin. Shops, atms, wherever. There may not be anyone near you, but I bet you've not notice those security cameras pointing at you... -
Oh, no. The "Won't Somebody Pleeeeese Think of the Children" line again. There should be some sort of Godwin's Law to tackle this argument. Anyway, if you are so concerned about children, should you be going around touting as "the E dealer"??!!
