  1. Just trying to help - not in the slightest bothered either way how anyone chooses, with reason, to describe someone. I do recognise that the past few years has seen a significant increase in Forum members, NOT this thread, who, in my perception inflame others' threads unnecessarily. Hence the reason I largely stopped using it. So to be clear, it's only a suggestion which people may use/ignore as desired :-)
  2. I hope you are recovered xone, I use this route daily. A general suggestion: I've seen many posts on this forum over the years relating to criminal incidents and concerns, the description of which often includes the poster's description of a suspect. Occasionally, the way in which skin colour is reported causes offence to some readers. Could I suggest a Forum policy of, where posible, using police identification codes? For those unfamiliar, these codes relate to the apparent ethnicity of someone about whom a report is made, rather than a statement of colour as follows: IC1 ? White European IC2 ? Dark European IC3 ? Afro-Caribbean IC4 ? Asian (in the British sense - ie Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani) IC5 ? Oriental IC6 ? Arab/North African IC0 ? Unknown ethnicity So for example IC2 Dark European might attach to someone not from Europe but with a dark mediterranean appearance none the less. Just a suggestion for anyone who may feel this approach might mitigate sensitivities.
  3. On demand very hit and (mostly) miss over past 10 days or so....engineer Saturday....
  4. Yep, I did this on Sunday. And only ?1.30 Oyster PAYG. New Overground service is excellent!
  5. Thanks boswell - send good luck for the exams! The iPhone app is excellent, but the little table is always useful pinned up in the kitchen and at work!
  6. Many months ago a very resourceful Forum member produced neat credit-card sized timetables to/from ED. I still use them all the time and an updated one would be great. Sorry I don't recall who it was, but thanks in anticipation.....
  7. Sledgehammer & nut. I assume they have declined reasonable requests before potentially being criminalised for wilful obstruction?
  8. Just walked home from the station and passed 2 parked cars with their side windows smashed in (Melbourne/ED Grove corner and Bassano/Blackwater corner. I've noticed in the past these seem to happen in bursts, so just a reminder to keep stuff hidden. And sympathy to the car owners.
  9. I went to Silvester Road on Thursday morning for this very reason, but there was no post there. Two things I had been expecting then arrived Friday and Saturday. Both had been somewhere in the system for almost 2 weeks (First class UK). I'm guessing there must be a sizeable backlog.
  10. Barry I'd just like to add my voice to the chorus of thanks for the visible work you and your colleagues have put in to our station. The improvements really are appreciated. Regards Z
  11. All the buses on route 40 seems to have been replaced. Air conditioned, very comfortable (for a bus) and good leg room. Tried one out this morning and all the 40s going south were similar '09' registered.
  12. I just walked over London Bridge and saw one heading south with "Dulwich Goose Green" on the front, so that may be your answer. I also spent 15 wasted minutes on top of the wasted hour yesterday at the police station stop waiting for a 40 which never came. Didn't know they weren't doing Lordship Lane (TFL website didn't say that yesterday). So I suggest people walk down the Lane as there was no hope of getting on the 176/185 at 7:30 this AM.
  13. A new train timetable starts from Monday 15th December. The morning trains from ED to LB have some small changes (a minute here and there), but there's also a reduction in off-peak daytime services. Currently these leave every 10 minutes 'on the 6', but are reducing to every 15 minutes 'XX:14; XX:29; XX:44; XX:59'. I haven't checked the evening return times beyond mourning the demise of my personal favourite 17:47 fast train home! *sorry*-just realised this is covered by another thread already
  14. There are new Oyster card readers at ED station this evening, although not yet in use. Hurrah!
  15. I saw what I assume is your little van parked on Melbourne this morning and wondered what had gone wrong! I hope you are able to resolve things. Good luck!
  16. Addison Lee are outstanding. And if you've internet access, you can use this link to set up a login. I used it last weekend at about 4am and the car was outside inside 10 minutes: https://www.addlee.com/login.xhtml?conversationId=12343
  17. Thanks - will remember at next renewal time.
  18. I find it odd that my annual train pass can't be loaded onto it. I'd still need to go through the barrier at London Bridge and there's no check at ED anyway. In fact in 3 years of commuting from here, my ticket has never been checked at ED station or during the journey. I know it's different if you have a tube pass as well, just seems like a simple improvement.
  19. In my experience, yes you can. Mine's hard wired - not sure if wireless makes any difference. Watched several BBC iPlayer things recently.
  20. I think I mentioned Eclipse on another thread. I'm just round the corner from you and have had perfect, fast service for about 18 months now (you get what you pay for). Agree with others on Orange - truly shameful and inept. www.ecplise.co.uk
  21. Must stand up for the TCC here. It's one of my locals, I've been going for over 2 years and I have no complaints at all. Agree the BYO is excellent, and I have probably 20/20 or more good experiences. Just felt the need for balance, soapbox now returned to the cupboard under the stairs.
  22. Try Sainsbury's online. Been with them for 3 years - ?51 a month B&C for 3 bed terrace.
