Pavement widening outside M&S nr East Dulwich station...
Sue replied to EDmummy101's topic in Roads & Transport
How do you think this should be addressed? Never doing any roadworks? Staggering the timing of the roadworks, even if they are urgent? Better communication between the people responsible for the roadworks? Increasing the cost of the roadworks by paying the workers a lot more to work only at night? Encouraging people to give up their polluting vehicles and use other forms of transport? (Radical suggestion, I know). Or some other way? I'm really not trying to be awkward, the backed up traffic has affected me when travelling by bus, but I can't see an obvious solution. I wasn't aware that there were "many" roadworks in ED at the moment, though. I'm aware of the ones by The Grove and outside M&S, which are both causing holdups. Where are the others? -

I heard it had moved further down Rye Lane, but I just googled and 191 is the new address! https://www.jandalondon.uk/ -
Can anybody recommend a good local plant nursery or garden centre?
Sue replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I haven't used the RHS online shop, however to the best of my knowledge none of the RHS gardens such as Wisley have a nursery (though they may sell plants there) , so whatever plants the RHS are selling will be grown elsewhere. It might be worth trying to find out where they get their retail plants from (it could be several different places, eg one for perennials, one for shrubs) and then googling reviews of those nurseries. I may be wrong, but I'm not convinced that buying from the RHS necessarily ensures a good plant. I once bought a perennial wallflower (Bowles Mauve) from Kew (not RHS, but you would expect good quality) which looked fine when I bought it, but didn't last long. I don't think it was due to my neglect, but who knows. It was in a large pot by my front door, where it got a lot of sun, so I have no idea what went wrong. Thanks for the recommendation for Croxted Road. I wonder if they can suggest some plants which I can put in the area under my bird feeders to deter the wood pigeons, who have transformed a large part of my very small garden into bare earth, and destroyed some treasured plants which I had had for years. Btw I'm sure you know this, but be very careful with Euphorbias. If you get any sap on your skin and it is exposed to sunlight, you will get an absolutely massive blister. I speak from past experience 😭 -
Thanks ianr. That's an interesting book! I see it says side effects are more common after the second dose of Moderna (page 13). I would have booked my jab for another week if I'd known. Kicking myself now. I wonder why this sort of thing isn't more widely publicised. I suppose partly for cost reasons and partly because they don't want to put people off having the jab.

Sorry. Link wasn't working on my phone, but it is now, and I couldn't delete the post.

Yes, presumably, in terms of using some of the space for non Post Office things, as other sub post offices do. But as a sub office I doubt that they will be able to cherry pick what Post Office services they offer. My understanding is that there are only a few things which Crown offices presently do but sub offices don't (like passports).

What an extraordinarily selfish post. Even in "the middle of London", believe it or not, there are people with buggies, in wheelchairs, with mobility aids, with visual disabilities, with shopping trolleys, with young children holding their hands, or who otherwise find it hard to negotiate blocked pavements. "Young people" (I'm sure this isn't just young people) can "enjoy the local amenities" within the boundaries of the "amenities", and without making life difficult for others. Many of those others have probably lived around here long before these "young people" moved in. This is a residential area with shops. It isn't a pedestrianised area in the West End.

Posting this here rather than starting another COVID thread, as there are already two, but admin please move if it's inappropriate. I've never had a bad reaction previously except a sore arm, but I've woken up feeling headachy and achy and quite unwell. I've had to cancel two appointments, and my dentist receptionist said this reaction can happen even if you have been ok before, and it can take three days to go away. Wondering what other people's experiences have been. Obviously it's possible I've got something unrelated to the jab, but it seems a strange coincidence if so.

I think it's just if you are over 75, unless you have certain medical conditions. But of course that could be a money saving measure. Maybe ask your GP if they think you need one?

Yes, this is life imitating movie, isn't it! I wonder if the pope saw Conclave ? From what I have read about him, I think he would have approved of the outcome.
-
Sorry, I can't remember, I've been inundated with texts inviting me to have this jab, and I made the appointment ages ago. But I get them because I'm ancient, not because of any serious medical condition. Maybe contact the surgery and ask? Yes, I got a sore arm with Moderna last year. I suspect it was Moderna I had this morning, so I've got the sore arm to look forward to. Hooray. I think it's Pfizer that you may now have to pay for?

That would be very funny, but not quite in the spirit of the thing 🤣

Thanks, I'll try again! Nope. Nothing. There is just a flu vaccine, on an "unknown date", and Pfizer from 2023 ETA 24/4: Thanks for this info, it is now showing on there as Spikevax/Moderna

Well, I hope you will come anyway! 🤣 Ok, BNG, we will sort something out. Please spread the word! If anyone has suggestions for suitable pubs, please say. Things have changed so much! I think the first one I went to was at The Uplands Tavern, which is now The Actress.

Crikey, Spartacus, you have a dim view of forum members! I remember the drinks as being quite decorous affairs, even on occasion - dare I say - boring. I remember one time in what is now the Victoria Inn but then wasn't (was it the Wishing Well?) Nygel and I deserted the room with the drinks to join the karaoke in the adjoining bar. We did a terrible rendition of some song, I can't remember what, but the bad memories linger 😂

Library of things at Dulwich leisure centre
Sue replied to Dulwich Born And Bred's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Last time I looked they didn't have a shredder, and when I enquired I was told that they were in the process of getting new ones (I'm not sure why they couldn't have kept the old ones till they got the new ones - maybe they were broken). I was told to keep looking on their website. Hopefully it will be soon as I presently have masses of stuff I need to shred, and other methods of confidential disposal like soaking in the bath don't appeal at the moment! -
Many moons ago, ED forum members used to meet up on a regular basis (I think monthly) in a different local pub each time to get to know each other and to have a chat over a drink. To help people like me who are rubbish at remembering names and faces, labels were provided! A space was reserved in the pub each time. If anyone would be interested in this (or else thinks it's a very bad idea!) , please either post on here or PM me. The ED demographic has greatly changed, and many of those original forum members have moved out of the area, so possibly this may no longer work for various reasons. My partner Nygel and I are happy to arrange the first one, but hopefully other people might step up to help after that, as we couldn't undertake to arrange them all on a regular basis, though we are happy to take turns.

I would have asked, but I forgot! Just checked, and not only is today's jab not on there, which perhaps isn't surprising, but nor is last year's 😮
-
It's a bit odd, isn't it? Apparently it could be either Pfizer or Moderna, and I've had both in the past, but I'd just like to know which it was this time. I guess my GP should know, if I wait a few days for the info to trickle through. But as I still kept getting reminders to have it long after I'd booked it, I don't have much faith in a joined up system.
