  1. Just as one example, the grass in a least some of the tree pits in Ulverscroft Road appears to have been sprayed. If it's not the council who has done it, then I wonder if someone is trying to kill the trees 😭 although I doubt if that would work, as the council have sprayed tree pits in the past (ignoring handwritten notices by my then very young grandchildren asking them not to spray as they had sowed flower seeds there) 🤬 Grass in the pavement nearby appears to have been neither sprayed nor scraped out. I'm quite confused.
  2. No, I thought someone on here was saying it was relevant to the Tesco planning application, and all I meant was that apart from Tesco not being mentioned on the notice, the date on it was over a year ago.
  3. Keely has found them. Aka someone else has lost them.
  4. Thanks, Pugwash. Probably James Barber? If that's the case, would he/they not have also set up some system for maintaining the information on the boards? Maybe they didn't care when they were (sadly) voted out, but I would have thought they would have made sure something was still in place?
  5. The notice on Poundland's door is dated February 2024.
  6. But is it the Village councillors who are maintaining the board, or someone else? When the boards in East Dulwich were installed, it wasn't the councillors who kept the information up to date, it was Monica from Health Matters, who was greatly involved in various community matters (eg the building of the community garden at what was then Dulwich Hospital). I can't remember if it was her who initiated the installation of the boards in the first place. She no longer lives in East Dulwich, and nobody else appears to be willing to liaise with the councillors and community related organisations to take this on for the various East Dulwich boards. It would hardly take much effort. Basic information doesn't frequently change (and no, I'm not volunteering. I am overstretched as it is). It's all very well to get a physical community notice board spruced up, but not much use if it then isn't being used for its intended purpose. And I can't see that it is part of a councillor's job to update notice boards which they didn't initiate in the first place. I'm sure they have more than enough to do. The notice boards serve (or did do) a useful service, but all the information which could be put on them is surely available elsewhere. (Unless it is bringing to people's attention things which are of use/interest to them and they weren't aware they needed/would like, or didn't know how else to find the information). ETA: Oh. I've just read the beginning of this thread. I'd forgotten how it started. It's gone well off topic, hasn't it. Probably just as well, reading the OP.
  7. Possibly, but it looks like weedkiller damage rather than natural death. I hope I'm wrong.
  8. Walking around, it looks to me as if weedkiller has been used, as some weeds have been left in situ but are dead. However, most of the weeds which have been (apparently) killed in this way are hardly likely to lift pavements, being things like Shepherd's Purse. They might seed around, but I'm not sure what harm that does. I would like to know exactly what is the remit of the council workers who are tasked with dealing with weeds in pavements (and in tree pits?). Things like dandelions which have taproots (but are hard to remove in one piece) have been left in the pavement, whereas things like Toadflax (which don't, and are easy to just pull out) have been removed.
  9. The seller hasn't been named on here, and it isn't clear that it was a genuine misunderstanding, given the contents of the OP. Maybe it should be left as a warning to others to try things out before you take them home. Or indeed before you sell them. If something seems wrong, it probably is. It shouldn't have taken a public post to resolve things . Also, if the laptop actually belongs to a company, it wasn't the seller's to sell, regardless of how he obtained it. ETA: There is only one Galaxy Chromebook listed for sale on here, for £70, and it is described as "brand new". The same model brand new from Samsung is £299.
  10. That's like the cartoon of the person who goes to IKEA for tea lights, comes out laden with stuff and says "Damn, I forgot the tea lights" 😂
  11. Have you tried contacting the company the laptop belongs to? I expect they would be interested.....
  12. Silly question, but have you reported this elsewhere as well as on here? Eg passport office, banks (if there are bank cards), police? Because if someone is carrying around their passport (assuming it's theirs) they must be pretty devastated if they have lost it, and it's fairly unlikely they will see this post, though fingers crossed.
  13. The Tories won an election many moons ago (early nineties?) because they promised to reduce tax. Which they did. Just look at the effects that had 🤬 when they had to cut back on vital things because they no longer had the money from tax to pay for them. I don't recall many voters prior to that election saying "ooh no, we need to continue paying loads of tax because we realise it goes on important things which affects us and our families" 🤬
  14. Ah, ok. I only glanced at it, and obviously didn't properly read even the tiny bit I glanced at 🤣 Sorry!
  15. Well if it is being replaced by a Tesco, hopefully at least some of the Poundland staff might be employed by Tesco. If not, it would be nice if they got some sort of payoff. If the company is continuing, I don't know if they would be entitled to statutory redundancy payments, if such things still exist? .
  16. There is a thread about the bridge elsewhere on the forum. It is not economical to "fix" it. It has to be replaced. There wasn't previously a bridge there at all, so I don't suppose replacing it is near the top of the council's priorities. The park is not "used by everyone" (sorry, didn't quote enough of the original post), and the vast majority of those who use the park are quite capable of walking around the lake, as they did before the bridge was there. I liked the bridge, and I liked feeding the ducks from it, but it's hardly on the same level of importance as a road junction. In any case, the money to replace it would not be coming from the same financial "pot".
  17. Someone or some people stole the Nissan badges from my ancient Micra, which definitely did not have anything of value lurking beneath them, including the car. Not sure if this was their stupidity, random vandalism, or the badges had some intrinsic value of which I was totally unaware. It was on two separate occasions.
  18. Admittedly I have not gone through that application with a fine tooth comb, riveting though it is (thank you for posting the link). However, unless I have misunderstood, within the documents it says that there are eleven properties associated with the application. Could someone at Tesco have made a mistake with the address, and in fact it has nothing to do with Poundland? Sorry, somehow I have duplicated my own post, and I'm not sure how to remove the duplicate. DUH.
  19. Surely it is not an "advert" for councillors? Why do you put "local" in inverted commas? Why the (lol)? What is so amusing? The board is telling people who their councillors are. What on earth is "frivolous" about that? If you are so concerned about the lack of information on the boards, why don't you do something about it (eg contact your local councillor with suggestions) instead of moaning on here?
  20. I will find out. Haven't been up there yet!
  21. The (very) short version is that we had an absolutely appalling meal there on Christmas Day which cost us nearly £200 without drinks (for two people) - which we had to pay in advance. The Plough might be a possibility, but we were in there for a Wake yesterday afternoon, and the (non) service at the bar was terrible.
  22. If there is a major restructuring of Poundland generally, I'd be very surprised if the Lordship Lane one survived. I wasn't one of the NIMBYs before it opened, as I like pound shops usually, but I've been disappointed with this one. Is there any actual evidence either that it's closing or it isn't closing, apart from hearsay? I don't read the Sun, btw, the screenshot below is from a Google search 🤣
  23. Thanks for the suggestions! If the Angel Oak is the pub on the edge of the Rye, it's probably not too far, but there might be more central (to East Dulwich) pubs to try first. No way will Nyge and I ever go to the Cherry Tree again, sorry. Edited to remove a long rant, because our reasons for not wishing to give The Cherry Tree our custom are not relevant to this thread.
  24. This drives me absolutely mad. Why is all the food they sell there so effing noisy? Popcorn, nuts, crisps. Why can't they just sell stuff like rolls and ice cream? Is it because those are harder to store and more perishable? It's so inconsiderate to other people, like having your mobile on loudspeaker on public transport.
  25. The use of robots to do certain types of surgery still needs somebody to operate (sorry can't think of another word) them, albeit at a distance, so I'm not sure how they are going to replace human surgeons? And what happens if they find something unexpected when they have made the incision? There must be something I'm missing, because I can't see how using robots is going to reduce NHS waiting list times?
