  1. Sorry, I'm confused. What is?
  2. Well I am a driver, but I've never heard of a "two second rule"! Possibly because I passed my test over half a century ago, before videos existed 🤣 But it's just common sense, surely?
  3. This is this Wednesday! It is a friendly social meetup to get to know other forum members over drinks. You can arrive and leave at any time from 7pm onwards. We will put a "forum drinks" notice on one of the tables so that hopefully you can't miss us! It is not to discuss forum matters (unless you want to), and you don't have to divulge your forum name (unless you want to). Should you be worried, so far there have been no fisticuffs, just friendly chats, so hopefully it will stay that way! Looking forward to seeing new and "old" faces! Do message me if you have any questions.
  4. That's interesting. I assumed it wasn't going to stay as a retail unit, given the years of ongoing work. I assumed it was going to be either an extension to the mosque or a residential building.
  5. What is the two second rule?
  6. I've been wondering the same, as I haven't seen any builders there recently. As you say, the work there had been going on for years, but it never seemed to get any nearer completion, and it looked like the cellar had been excavated. Once there was concrete being piped in, but that was possibly a few years back. I miss the grocer. They used to sell good quality garlic and ginger, really cheaply.
  7. There must be a great many extremely poor drivers around if you see so many of them ignoring or failing to see signs indicating a school street. What sort of daily numbers are you talking about, and how much is a "bucket load" of cash?
  8. I am no expert by any means, but I wonder first if Foxtons belong to any kind of professional (I use the term loosely) body you could complain to, and second, if you have any grounds to take them to the small claims court. I am surprised and sorry that none of the people you have asked for help could actually help. To be fair, though, re the oven, they have offered to reimburse you for an air fryer, it is the weekend so probably difficult to get someone out to look at it, and they seem to be addressing that problem at least pretty promptly? Do you have a grill and hob and kettle working OK? Also, is it not the owner's responsibility to address issues such as the mould and the bath? Shouldn't Foxtons be liaising with them about this? Oh, and this is not intended to be a joke - try asking ChatGPT (or similar) what you can do. It saves hours of googling stuff online yourself.
  9. No, because I have been out much of today and only just got back. Until you wrote that, apparently two hours ago, I didn't see that you had edited a post you had already written to include it, and I don't usually scroll back through threads in case somebody has added something to an existing post! I will have a read. Thank you for posting it.
  10. I agree it's a shame, but it is not a "sign of the times", unless you think that up to now people have never grown older and retired!
  11. But there's a case for advisory guidance at least, surely? It's a safety issue, and surely just common sense? What do other countries do? And are there any statistics for accidents involving cyclists which compare those in daylight and those in dusk or at night, with and without street lighting?
  12. So could you post a link to this ten year old survey, please, so that we can read the whole of the context to this figure, exactly what questions were asked, what the sample was, etc?
  13. It would be reasonable to quote an old survey if the circumstances when it was produced were the same as current circumstances. In this case they apparently aren't. Perhaps Rockets could provide the link? Then indeed we can all decide for ourselves whether the survey findings are relevant in 2025, and (more importantly) relevant to the subject of this thread.
  14. How is the conversation "getting skewed" by somebody pointing out that you are bringing in a ten year old survey to try to back up your views? And also pointing out some issues with your interpretation of the survey wording? It seems to me that it is you who is making this personal. It is you yourself who gets into constant arguments on other threads with posters when they point out the flaws in your reasoning!
  15. I think part of the problem may be that if you are a cyclist and can see cars and pedestrians after dark, e.g. lit by streetlights and headlights, you don't realise that they can't see you when your bike has no lights and you are dressed in dark non reflective clothing. The other part of the problem may be that you just don't care, of course. ETA: Do Lime bikes not have lights?
  16. If she took a bus, has she tried contacting the bus company? Long shot, but you never know!
  17. Not really the point, though? I doubt cyclists who dress like this in the dark are or have been car drivers? Surely if they were they would be more aware of visibility issues? They are a real danger to themselves and others.
  18. Is your friend sure that it's "stuck" in the tree? Or is it just "in" the tree, having climbed up there and will climb down again? Was it showing signs of distress? It's a lovely cat! ❤️
  19. The leaves are swept, but at this time of year it's virtually impossible to keep on top of it.
  20. Crikey, you haven't posted for years! What has prompted you to grace the forum with your presence with such an intriguing partial statement?
  21. Yes, sounds like it, if they are normally open on a Tuesday evening? Thanks!
  22. I think you were very lucky to get it cancelled, TBH. So far as I know, there is not some kind of unofficial period of grace after the publicised time.
  23. Obviously I can't speak for them, but they have been a forum member for some years, and none of their other posts imply a connection with the council.
