The next forum drinks will be on Wednesday 19 November from 7pm onwards, in the lounge upstairs at the EDT (The East Dulwich Tavern, on the corner of Lordship Lane by the Goose Green roundabout). We will have a space in the same area as before (turn right at the top of the stairs and go past the bar). The upstairs bar will be closed, so please buy a drink downstairs before you come up. If you have mobility or other things which make stairs difficult for you, please message me and we can make arrangements to help. Also please message me if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing "old" and new faces! Thanks to the EDT for hosting us!

From what I have read, the reason given for not doing that is that it would take up too much government time which would be better used for more important matters. Whether that's just a convenient excuse, I have no idea.

Oh dear 😮 That's very poor. I hope the solicitor in question is more careful in other aspects of their job ...... In that case, I assume the solicitor realised they had shared the letter by mistake and then somehow reversed the sharing? I don't know if that is possible, but it's the only explanation I can think of. Also, maybe it's possible for Windows and Apple documents to be shared between the two systems? Because documents produced in one system can be viewed in another, otherwise people would only ever be able to communicate with people using the same system? But I'm sure there are people on here who can confirm or otherwise, as I'm just making assumptions.

Music video - spot the local locations, fun thread

No. Why would I post something which wasn't true? -
Surely that can't be every case of Covid? A doctor wouldn't even know about most of them. Is it just where it's serious enough for hospitalisation? What's the point?
-
Sorry to be dim, but how would that help if I had a cold? I am not so vulnerable that I need extra protection from the mask itself. Just looked. My masks are from rosimask and have a load of stuff stamped on them including FFP2.
-
I can't, but I'm sure ChatGPT could, if you ask it! With Windows 11, you can share documents, eg with work colleagues, via a setting. Probably it's the same with iPads etc and the solicitor has accidentally or deliberately shared it with your friend? I'm sure the solicitor can explain it if asked. Hopefully it wasn't an accident!

Yes of course a lot of it is total bollocks. And of course the House of Lords is ridiculous. But the class system etc isn't because we have a "royal family", is it?

Can't remember where I got them, online somewhere recommended by my daughter, but they are cloth and brightly coloured and fit quite tightly around my nose and mouth. I've still got a stock of them. Tissues inside might help a bit, but if you have a very runny nose you basically need to keep removing the mask to blow it. Luckily I have only had to go out once when I've had a bad cold. Sorry, probably too much information.

I agree. Least of the possible evils.

I know everyone is different, and I can see both sides of this, but for what it's worth, my take is that I'd rather risk any ill effects from the jabs - short or long term - than not have them and greatly regret it later if I became seriously ill with flu or Covid. Different scenario I know, but decades ago I had a rabies scare, and my stress levels were high enough trying to get the required jabs following the bite, goodness knows what they would have been like if I hadn't had a preventative (?) jab beforehand.

Blooming cheek, both of you! 🤣
-
I know I should, but I don't. I carry one with me and put it on if someone is coughing and sneezing on the bus (or if I am). Problem is it's a bit disgusting wearing one if you've got a cold.

It would help if you quoted my post you are replying to. How convenient that it was at the end of a page. 30mph is significantly faster than 20mph - 50% faster - otherwise there wouldn't be much point in having reduced the speed limit, for the reasons given. I notice you completely ignore the rest of my post. I will copy and paste it here to jog your memory. "Maybe people might be more inclined to cycle and walk if they are less at risk from speeding cars whilst doing so, and their journey is generally more pleasant? How do you define a) ideological and b) claptrap in this context? And what is your opinion on the other two reasons, ie reducing collisions and helping to improve air quality?"

I read that years ago, but I can't remember anything about it (but then I forget books as soon as I've finished them).
-
How on earth do you interpret those very sensible reasons as "ideological"?

Forest Hill station closed due to fire in close proximity
Sue replied to jazzer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Poor cat. Also poor people. I imagine it was incredibly frightening for everyone involved, quite apart from any damage to their homes. And so soon after the massive fire in Penge. I hope the cat is found and everyone affected in any way by the fire will get all the help they need. -
Yes, I'm hoping for Pfizer, which I think I'm ok with. But to be on the safe side I've made an appointment for when I haven't got anything else planned for a week afterwards. Last time I had to stand up for most of an evening and put on a happy face while feeling really grim (was in bed for the rest of the week).

Luckily I am not under 75, but I think I'm vulnerable anyway because of asthma. No idea. I've never paid for a jab since I went travelling in the nineties 😂 https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/covid-19-vaccine/ It could well be because you are a carer and if you got Covid you could then pass it on to the vulnerable person/people you care for? That would make sense?

Synchronicity (today's Grauniad)
-
I absolutely agree, but I take the belt and braces approach!
-
There's no logical explanation for that, surely? Or at least, not directly related to having had the vaccine? Unless the over 65s choosing to be vaccinated were less robust than those who didn't, and so more likely to succumb to a flu variant which hadn't been included in the jab?

That reminds me of a Magnus Mills novel 🤣 (The Scheme For Full Employment)

It took me some time to get the tara chuck reference, and every time I see anything about a pope I'm reminded of Conclave. Sephiroth, I skimmed through the article but I'm still bemused. Too early in the day, it's only just gone ten 🤣 Can you explain in a few words (preferably short words) what Opus Dei is? My O level Latin (massively useful in everyday life, obviously) says Work of God, but I assume it's some organisation associated with the Catholic church, that I should know what it is, grammar.
