Not bad enough to treat yet, but will only get worse. Oh happy happy days 🙂

Why don't you trolls crawl back under your bridge? It's pathetic.

We had 8 sparrows, two wood pigeons and three mice. Two what might have been great tits in a tree overlooking my garden, don't think that counts. One crow flew over, don't think that counts either. The peacock didn't show up this year 🤣 ETA: Interested in the info about binoculars, thanks.

Yes that was what brought it to mind.

Whoeveritis Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I hate these lofts, they completely ruin the > Victorian houses. Ugly doesn?t even come in to it. I think there are worse things than lofts which ruin the Victorian style of the houses. At least you generally only see the hideous lofts from the back. Inappropriate double glazed windows at the front which aren't sash windows are worse, I think, and also plantation (I think they're called) shutters, though I can see from a functional point of view they are good. ETA: Anyway, I think Bob is probably referring to the original loft, not some carbuncle stuck onto it. ETA: As you were, sorry 😂

An optician once told me those very expensive reading lamps you see advertised are a waste of money. He told me what to get, which I have a note of somewhere, but it was just something ordinary. I use an IKEA floorstanding Anglepoise-type lamp, and it's fine.

I have a Scottish parent. Does that mean if Scotland gains independence I can have a Scottish passport? And if it joins the EU, an EU passport? Assuming I live that long, of course 😂

But I may have got this completely wrong, in those days I only visited Lordship Lane to go to the Dulwich Tandoori on a Saturday night 😂

redjam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Wonder what the rationale is for clearing out all > the vegetation. I imagine it's so that the water can run away more easily, and not be left to make the surrounding ground waterlogged. We have work parties twice a year on our allotment site, and among the things done are clearing any vegetation blocking the ditches/drains which take away water. Like everywhere else the site is very waterlogged in places at the moment though. One of the oldest plotholders says it's the wettest winter he can remember, and he thinks it's due to climate change 😥

Thanks for that explanation, JRJ.

Agreed. It was a pity a lot of threads disappeared last time, though understandable. And it would be great to have some warning if our PMs are going to disappear!

I went to classes, in the seventies it must have been. I can still recall sitting in a room and realising I had reached a point (not long into the course, lol) where I just couldn't get my head around whatever was being taught at that session. I never went back. I was gobsmacked when somebody told me recently that Fortran is still used - surely this can't be true?

Spartacus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Dial up ? Wow that was posh. Then all the cards were put in a box and had to be in exactly the right order. If you dropped the box, God help you. Then you took them to the computer lab (as you say, computer the size of a room) and left them there for a day or so. Then when you collected them, generally there was a long scroll of paper saying error error error and you had to go through all the cards to find the error, and then take them back to the lab again. Oh happy days. I've just remembered the name of the statistical test, it was the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test 😶 You can probably do it these days by pressing a button on a calculator on your mobile (once you've input the data) 😶
