I completely support the aims of the ULEZ, however I think there should have been more support for residents within the zone who have old cars. My car is over twenty years old, well maintained, regularly serviced, passes its MOT first time, but is not ULEZ compliant. I didn't meet whatever the requirements are to get the two grand for scrapping it, and I was horrified to discover the prices of cars! Plus I was inundated with phone calls from car salespeople as soon as I started enquiring about cars advertised online. I know this is a bit off topic, but other options (eg hiring a car when needed) are apparently closed to me because I am, like my car, so ancient. I did have a buyer (who lives well out of the zone) for my car, but decided to keep it pro tem after I discovered that the ULEZ charge only applies when the car is actually driven within the zone, and not when it's parked in the zone. People who live in the congestion zone don't get charged (I think) and the aims of that are the same, ie to reduce pollution. What is the difference? So far I have made three trips, one to collect my Christmas tree and two to drive to and from my daughter's, coming back on a different day, with a load of heavy stuff impossible to take on public transport, and have been picked up by cameras all three times. So in a few days I have nearly forty quid being taken out of my bank account. I hope it will be put to good use 🙄

"Can't deliver" may actually be accurate if they haven't got the staff to deliver. It doesn't say "Tried to deliver but there was nobody around to take it in". Absolutely appalling. FFS undo the privatisation. It's the same with transport - a terrible mess, and the customers suffer.

Probably better to complain via Helen Hayes (who I know is already on the case and has been since before the ED delivery office was closed). I only say this because a) the chairman won't be picking up his own emails, a minion in his office will be and b) unless things have changed, the chairman's office prioritises complaints from MPs, which have to be answered within a certain time scale. If memory serves, it used to be two weeks. Complaints, including those from members of the public, just get shunted down the line to the relevant department for some other minion to investigate (if necessary) and draft a reply in due course. Decades (it feels like centuries) ago, I was one of those minions 🤣 Letters from MPs were in those days called "flag cases" and draft responses had to get back to the chairman's office PDQ 🤣 This was before the days of email ..... But also, Helen Hayes can put together all the complaints she gets and make a stronger case for something to be done than just a trickle of one off complaints to the chairman from different people. Not, I agree, that that seems to have had any effect so far. I can't understand why the Peckham office isn't taking on casuals. Surely it wouldn't cost that much?

I had six cards delivered today, one posted on 9 December. Plus a replacement SIM card posted a fortnight ago ... Luckily in the end not needed. I am still waiting for two items relating to a new bank account opened weeks ago 😡

Great idea, but what happens if a second or third courier arrives before you have removed the first courier's parcel/s?! -

I can't see how delivering to relatively far flung places affects delivery in South East London? Surely the only impact of that is on Royal Mail's overall staffing, transport and delivery office costs, and those won't have changed significantly since privatisation. What has changed is Royal Mail now having to deliver (pun not intentional) a profit to its shareholders. Which directly led, so far as I can see, to the almagamation of the ED delivery office with Peckham's, instead of finding a local alternative to the Sylvester Road office if that was no longer fit for purpose (as Royal Mail claimed).

In this last case, they had gone up to the front door and carefully propped the parcel against it. Two other couriers had hidden parcels in a place nearer to the gate than the front door, and where they were covered up and out of sight of passers by.

I have never seen any berries on the ginko trees planted in East Dulwich, so I presume they are male. However ... https://homeguides.sfgate.com/ginkgo-tree-berries-stink-56020.html

Lynne Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I am told that a man has been seen regularly > driving in the Upland Rd area and taking parcels. > Photo's taken and description but I don't know > what, if anything, has been done about it. I'm obviously not condoning people stealing parcels, but surely parcels should not be left in full view outside people's homes in the first place. I rescued a parcel on Christmas Eve which had been left propped against a neighbour's front door in full view of the street, in spite of the fact that there were other places outside their house it could have been put where it would have been hidden from sight. My neighbours were not in at the time, so it's not as if the deliverer had knocked and then heard someone shout that they were coming to the door. Also, I was in all day and nobody rang my bell to ask me to take the parcel in for my neighbours. I do start to have suspicions about collaboration between some of the deliverers and the thieves. I hope I'm wrong. There are many different couriers, and I wonder whether this is a particular issue with just some companies, or if it's all of them.

What I do notice however is a persistent faint smell of gas on North Cross Road at the mural end, near Superdrug. I have been meaning to report it for weeks.

Message on my road's What'sApp group: Just spoken to a poor harassed looking postman. The only thing they are delivering are Covid tests as they have to be delivered next day. Otherwise everything else is backed up and he?s no idea if there will be anything before Christmas. ETA: Ulverscroft Road.

There is a camera at the South Circular end of Underhill Road. As I sadly found when I tried to return from my allotment that way! So having nurtured my Christmas tree all year, it has cost me ?12.50 to bring it home, and will cost me another ?12.50 to take it back :( Unless I can find another route ......

I use iD which runs on the Three network. I suddenly can't make calls or text. Is anybody else having the same problem? ETA: It was something at their end, sorted now. Grrrrrr.
