  1. I bank with First Direct, and since HSBC no longer has a branch in East Dulwich, I use the Post Office if I need to physically use a bank, eg paying cash in. They have an arrangement with First Direct. I have always used them to change notes to coins if I need to, for the float for our gigs. I've never had any problems before. This Friday we have our first concert since before lockdown, and I went to get some pound coins for the float. I was told that I couldn't do this unless I had a "change card", and I would need to go to the bank. Luckily Barclays (who I have never had an account with) kindly did this for me, otherwise I would have needed to go to the HSBC branch in Peckham. When i got home, I phoned First Direct, who said they have never heard of a "change card", and that they didn't provide one. Can anybody shed any light on this apparently new Post Office requirement? What is a "change card", and how do I get one? ETA: I've just googled it. Apparently you now have to have an HSBC business account to get change. I now realise what I should have done is just withdraw cash at the counter and ask for it in pound coins. I'm sure they would have been delighted.
  2. Lying on the pavement at the junction of Barry Road and Tyrell Road is what seems to be a small child's navy blue jacket, possibly hooded, with pink unicorns on it (I didn't move it). I left it there as I thought it was more likely to be found by its owner retracing their steps than by their looking for it on here, but I'm posting details here just in case.
  3. Why can't they employ temps, like they do at Christmas?

    Forum data breach?

To be clear, the password I used for the new Gmail address was not one I've used anywhere else. I have three Gmail addresses now, but I'm a bit confused as although they recognise me, they don't seem to be relating the new address to the two existing addresses, so I'm actually wondering if I should have used the same password as for the other two. It's all too complicated for me. I think I'll go and lie down in a very dark room.

    Forum data breach?

Thanks, I had already changed it, I just wondered what the data breach was! Thanks for the explanation!
  6. I just set up a new gmail account, and in the tedious process that started off, I received these messages: Change 2 compromised passwords Some of your saved passwords appeared in a data breach from a site or app that you use. You should change them now. and Some of your saved passwords were exposed in a non-Google data breach. You should change them now. This account is at risk eastdulwichforum.co.uk Sue Can anybody shed any light?
  7. I use iD, which uses the Three network. I've never had any connection problems anywhere (I probably will now I've posted that!)

They will be able to track who has handled the card at this end (or they should be able to). However, don't expect any compensation, because they will just tell you money shouldn't be sent in the ordinary post (which is true).
  9. I've just got a parcel today that was sent by 48 hour delivery nearly two weeks ago. I'm still waiting on other stuff. I'm also very wary now of ordering anything which will be delivered (or more likely not) by Royal Mail.

  15. There is a "joke" thread on here, which I haven't seen lately. One of the first "jokes" was specifically based on this word. I was horrified when I saw it and more horrified that nobody had apparently complained about it at the time. I don't think the post exists any more, because some time ago a lot of posts disappeared when the forum was updated. For what it's worth, I think the term is racist, and I called someone out on it when he used it at a party I was at. There are bad eggs in any group of people. That doesn't mean it is OK to casually insult all of them by using racist terms about them.
  16. My daughter says it should be tested by water company for potential mains leak. If it isn't that, you can email BGS on [email protected] giving location, spatial extent of area and timescale over which it's been happening. Usually needs site investigation, is clearly localised to you and something has changed. Sometimes failed soakaway if they have had an extension it may drain to soakaway. They clog up over time. Sorry for weird grammar, I've copied and pasted from her WhatsApp posts! ETA: BGS is British Geological Survey. My daughter works there.
  17. My daughter is a hydrogeologist but doesn't live locally. I will ask if she can shed any light without making a site visit.
  18. No prob re hijacking, the thread has been really useful for me 🙂 But as I have now discovered on the ULEZ thread that I only have to pay the charge when I'm actually driving the car within the zone, I'm keeping it for the time being. Certainly buying another car isn't an option until my present car expires and I've done more research. Before I found out about the ULEZ details I had made some enquiries about cars I had seen online and then got inundated with phone calls from dealers 😭😭😭 as I couldn't be emailed the details without giving my phone number 😭😭😭 Anyway, my car passed its MOT last week 👍

  21. Cheaper just to pay the ULEZ charge??

I'm more concerned with financial stuff sent in the post. The very late arrival of a bank card earlier in the year caused me all sorts of problems which are still reverberating.
