Edited to make clear that I'm not referring to malumbu!

I don't think there are termites in East Dulwich! Might you be able to get hold of the previous survey? I don't know if it was the owner who told you nothing was flagged up, but if so, they would, wouldn't they? Do you know why the couple pulled out after having had a survey done? I once pulled out of buying a house I was very keen on because of the survey.
  3. Oh! Just seen you said the heucheras had actually come apart from their roots. Not much to save then possibly 😭 I just googled, and I haven't read all this, but it might help? http://www.lifeinplants.com/life-in-plants/pest-alert-vine-weevils-about-and-many-sad-heucheras
  4. Empty out all the compost in the pots that the heucheras are in, or any other pots with vine weevil damage, and dispose of it (not in your garden). Wash every speck of compost from what's left of the roots of the heucheras. Wash the containers very thoroughly indeed. Hopefully you have now got rid of any remaining grubs or eggs. Replant the heucheras in completely fresh (new) compost and cross your fingers that they have enough roots left to grow. You might be better planting them in smaller pots to start off with. Heucheras are unfortunately prone to vine weevil, so unless you are very attached to them you may be better cutting your losses and starting completely again with something else. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! ETA: I know you said you had too much soil to send to landfill, but so far as I know, there are no chemicals available for non-commercial gardeners to treat vine weevil. I don't have a solution unless you bag it all up and take it to the tip a bit at a time 😭 ETA: Nematodes are fine at the right time of year but expensive, especially if you have a lot of pots to treat. Personally I think it would be much safer in the long term to get rid of any compost which may have eggs in (which I don't think the nematodes can treat until they have hatched into the vile grubs, but I may be wrong).

After thirty years I can't remember, but I imagine either it's in the survey or the surveyor told me. I have the survey somewhere. Was your structural surveyor not able to explain the sloping floor? Isn't that sort of thing what you pay them for?!
  6. My house has a sloping floor in the top right room and apparently it's bomb damage. Quite a few bombs fell round here in WW2. ETA: I've been here 30 years and it was like it when I moved in (I had a full structural survey done at the time). Are you thinking of buying the house? If so, you definitely should rule out any potentially expensive causes of the slope before burning your bridges (or knock down the price ...)

Silly question, but if she gets the same bus as him can't he just return it to her? Or, another silly question, could you contact the school?
  9. There used to be a Chinese Elvis who regularly performed in a restaurant on the Old Kent Road. Sadly I never saw him. However I did once spend a memorable (for many reasons) New Year's Eve at an Indian restaurant where there was an Indian Elvis. It was brilliant 😁

  13. I've just received this impressively speedy reply: Thanks for flagging this up. I?ve just had a chat with the office manager who confirmed he had a couple of temporary Christmas workers who started with us this week delivering in your area yesterday, though he was surprised to hear they were still out so late. I?ve asked him to go back over the training with these particular people and offer them support to complete the work in the allocated time. I am sure you can appreciate the challenges we have delivering unprecedented levels of letters and parcels at the moment, we have had to bring in some additional resource who are clearly less experienced than our regular posties. Please let me know if you have any other issues.

    Jury service scam?

Thanks, I just watched it on iPlayer. I was just as fascinated by how that guy managed to get access to the scammer's CCTV and bank accounts 😮 But also why PayPal have continued to allow the scammer to have an account even after being made aware of what he was using it for. Interested to know quite how my jury service scammer would have got any money from me, but I don't intend to click on the link to find out!
  17. Thanks singalto, I'll contact him.

  19. 9pm. I heard a strange clatter. Two supposed posties whizzed down my street, one each side. The one on my side managed to force a magazine through my letterbox, but sadly had to give up with a cardboard packet clearly marked "Do not bend", which along with some other post he bent in half, tried to get it through, couldn't, so just left it all stuck in the letterbox. On opening the door to pull it through from the outside, I found another letter dropped on the doorstep. On looking through the post which had been stuck in the letterbox, I found a letter for somebody several doors down. Dear oh dear. Have they taken on the Christmas casuals already?
  20. I can only think that some of the people posting on this thread have not properly read the OP or his/her subsequent post in answer to a question. As regards taking pictures, many (possibly all) schools etc no longer allow pictures to be taken of the children within school grounds except in official school photographs and/or with parental permission. And many (all?) have changed to solid fences to prevent people looking in at the children playing. I have once or twice wanted to take a picture of a child I didn't know (not in a playground) and I have always asked the parent's permission, which is the obvious thing to do. If you would be happy for a man you didn't know, with no children of his own present, to be apparently taking secret photos of your children in a playground, KK, fine. Each to their own. Anyway, this thread has wandered far from the purpose of the original post, and it is clear that we are not going to agree.

  22. Skin_deep has explained why they posted. And if they hadn't done, and then something untoward happened, how do you think they would feel? Do you honestly think it would be better to have used up scarce police resources by dialling 999 on the basis of an uncomfortable feeling? Or to "confront" the man in question themselves? What would they say? I don't feel comfortable with you watching the children for so long when you don't seem to be with any of them? I was once in a similar situation in the playground in Brockwell Park, although in this case the man in question appeared to be possibly taking pictures of the children on an iPad, whilst ostensibly sitting on a seat in the playground "reading" the iPad at an angle. He wasn't with any children. Two community police officers appeared, and he put the iPad in his bag, but they didn't approach him. I wasn't able to talk to them because I was with two small children on the other side of the playground, and I couldn't leave them alone. I've always regretted not in some way doing something, particularly as I assume the police were there for a reason. If that had been a park more local to me I might well have posted something on here. Many playgrounds have notices up saying that adults are not allowed unless accompanied by children. I don't know whether the one in Ruskin Park has? It's a bit of a stretch to call posting on here starting rumours or curtain twitching. I'd say it was a reasonable action from somebody who felt sufficiently uneasy about a situation to share their unease and explain why.
  23. They look very nice. Are you selling them?

  25. The OP was very careful in his or her wording. If I had children young enough to go to playgrounds I would be glad of a heads up. To suggest calling 999 is ridiculous. ETA: And the man in question has not been named or otherwise identified on here.
