  1. Good to hear, hope that continues x
  2. Has that meant things have improved for you, mary123? I hope so.

  4. My partner and I were sitting in the garden, and we both heard and commented on the sirens. It is very usual to hear one or two, not so many at once. I thought we would hear of some local incident the following day. I doubt if we would have heard anything if we had been inside the house, so I'm a bit bemused as to why anybody would say there weren't any sirens just because they didn't happen to hear them!
  5. Me neither 🤣🤣🤣

Well yes, there is a massive difference!
  7. There was also a cobblers on North Cross Road, a pet food shop and a greengrocer, all now gone.
  8. Yes, The Actress was The Uplands Tavern. It was quite rough, although it had a brief time when they tried to bring it a bit upmarket. It had rooms upstairs. Someone we knew stayed there once, locked himself out, couldn't find anyone to let him in, and had to sleep on my sofa 🤣

Yep, the only room I had a carpet left was my bedroom, and the moths ate the carpet under the bed.
  10. I had carpet moths. I ended up taking up the carpets and painting my floorboards 🤣 though that wasn't just because of the moths! I have tried everything for clothes moths. None of the "natural" methods worked for me, sadly. I now use sticky pheromone traps to trap the males. I think it's cruel, but it's the only thing which has worked for me. I also put moth papers amongst all my clothes and fabrics. I diarise when the traps and papers need to be replaced, and also when I need to order more. Then I try to actually do it! I Google every time to try to get the cheapest deal, but it still costs a fortune! I stopped using sprays when I had a parrot staying here, and never started again. Also I don't think they're great if you have asthma. I do have some unused moth stuff which I don't want. I will put it all in the for sale/give away section at some point!
  11. This was a lot of sirens all at once, apparently coming from the same place. It was unusual.

  15. I don't think you should "assume" anything, including that people are "doing the very best that they can."
  16. The Grove Tavern is now derelict. The Magdala became The Magnolia, then (briefly) The Patch. It is now The Lordship. The Lord Palmerston became The Palmerston, one of London's first gastro pubs, but is currently being boycotted by a number of people due to a rather nasty change of hands. The EDT is still the EDT 🙂 The parks are still there. You didn't mention the restaurants, but the Dulwich Tandoori is still there 🙂 Most other things have changed very drastically 🤣
  17. I did too and thought something serious had happened.
  18. Thanks Applespider.
  19. Seems to be happening everywhere. Second wave, anyone?

Young children do like to scream! They have found they can do it, and it's fun, so they keep doing it just to hear themselves screaming. It's understandable. We probably all did it! But if they are doing it outside, you would think an adult might come and either take them into the house or else get them to stop? Maybe they are put in the garden so the adults can get some peace and quiet? The adults maybe just don't appreciate that others can hear the piercing noise and be disturbed by it?

Walking would have been my preferred option, but unfortunately at the moment it seems that even mild activity when I'm feeling well puts me back in bed for several days (nothing to do with the reason for the appointment.) Plus I'd have to walk back as well, as if I didn't I might as well have gone there on the bus. I don't think I could do it 😭 As I'm on the vulnerable list I am eligible for car transport to medical appointments, and I phoned yesterday to ask about that, but apparently it has to go through my GP, which is not a problem, however it's an urgent appointment and I'm a bit loath to depend on a car turning up on time, plus they said it was only available if I had "no other way to get to the appointment" and obviously there's the bus option. Also, a car is a very confined space, even allowing for masks etc.. I've never used Uber, and I don't really want to for the first time for something time critical. The car parking situation at Kings used to be impossible, is that still the case? I've been driving to my allotment. However I don't want to be stressing because I can't park 😭 Thanks everyone above for your information and advice! I think I should just calm down and risk the bus! I will phone my GP for advice maybe as I'm in a weird situation re the virus.
  22. The thread in question has sadly disappeared :( I sincerely hope the original problem was sorted, as it sounded horrendous.

Crikey, (unwelcome) blast from the past :))
  24. I haven't been on a bus since before the start of lockdown, but I need to get one next Friday from ED to KCH to get there around 11.30am (and then back again probably around 1 - 2pm). I know I have to wear a mask, but can anybody tell me: a) Are the buses likely to be crowded at that time b) Will they be less crowded upstairs (I usually go upstairs anyway) c) What is the deal re social distancing - presumably it is one person per seat, but are alternate pairs of seats not in use? d) I would normally go to the stop before the one at the Post Office, but the pavement is quite narrow there. Is social distancing usually observed at the stop outside the Post Office? Sorry to be so dim. I feel like I'm venturing into a strange and unknown land :))

Tesco don't sell draught and keg beer, or at least they hadn't changed into a pub last time I was in there :))
