  1. Seems to be happening everywhere. Second wave, anyone?

Young children do like to scream! They have found they can do it, and it's fun, so they keep doing it just to hear themselves screaming. It's understandable. We probably all did it! But if they are doing it outside, you would think an adult might come and either take them into the house or else get them to stop? Maybe they are put in the garden so the adults can get some peace and quiet? The adults maybe just don't appreciate that others can hear the piercing noise and be disturbed by it?

Walking would have been my preferred option, but unfortunately at the moment it seems that even mild activity when I'm feeling well puts me back in bed for several days (nothing to do with the reason for the appointment.) Plus I'd have to walk back as well, as if I didn't I might as well have gone there on the bus. I don't think I could do it 😭 As I'm on the vulnerable list I am eligible for car transport to medical appointments, and I phoned yesterday to ask about that, but apparently it has to go through my GP, which is not a problem, however it's an urgent appointment and I'm a bit loath to depend on a car turning up on time, plus they said it was only available if I had "no other way to get to the appointment" and obviously there's the bus option. Also, a car is a very confined space, even allowing for masks etc.. I've never used Uber, and I don't really want to for the first time for something time critical. The car parking situation at Kings used to be impossible, is that still the case? I've been driving to my allotment. However I don't want to be stressing because I can't park 😭 Thanks everyone above for your information and advice! I think I should just calm down and risk the bus! I will phone my GP for advice maybe as I'm in a weird situation re the virus.
  4. The thread in question has sadly disappeared :( I sincerely hope the original problem was sorted, as it sounded horrendous.

Crikey, (unwelcome) blast from the past :))
  6. I haven't been on a bus since before the start of lockdown, but I need to get one next Friday from ED to KCH to get there around 11.30am (and then back again probably around 1 - 2pm). I know I have to wear a mask, but can anybody tell me: a) Are the buses likely to be crowded at that time b) Will they be less crowded upstairs (I usually go upstairs anyway) c) What is the deal re social distancing - presumably it is one person per seat, but are alternate pairs of seats not in use? d) I would normally go to the stop before the one at the Post Office, but the pavement is quite narrow there. Is social distancing usually observed at the stop outside the Post Office? Sorry to be so dim. I feel like I'm venturing into a strange and unknown land :))

Tesco don't sell draught and keg beer, or at least they hadn't changed into a pub last time I was in there :))

Thanks in advance Google a few different energy comparison sites. Put in your current annual usage for gas and electricity. Say whether you want green, fixed tariff, direct debit etc. Don't assume that any one site will have all the possible options. Don't use schemes that claim to automatically tell you, or switch you to, the best option (they don't have all the possible options either, and I've always been able to get a better deal by doing it myself). That includes the MoneySavingExpert scheme, sadly 😢 Don't just look at price. Google customer service reviews, eg on Trust Pilot.
  9. The Ivy House, Stuart Road. Two minute walk from the Rye (top end). Not sure whether you have to order in advance or can just turn up - I think the latter now, but best phone to find out! http://www.ivyhousenunhead.com/

  12. Complaints on here always seem to be about Virgin! I am genuinely bemused as to why people stay with them. Is it because they are much much better than other providers when you can actually get online?

  15. Really sorry to hear this. Did anyone phone the police? I can understand people not wanting to get directly involved, presumably for fear of being hurt, but I find it hard to understand people who just pass by and don't even try to get help for the person being attacked. I hope your brother is OK and not too traumatised. Glad to hear that at least one person came to help.
  16. Thanks Zig-Zag, that's reassuring. Especially as the last time I heard mega bird commotion it was on my allotment, and followed by a fox trotting away with a pigeon in its mouth 😮
  17. There have been threads about this on here in past years. I'm sure they will be cluster flies. Someone on here identified them for me when I had them in my house (haven't had them since, thank goodness!)
  18. For all you know, the girl is ill or being abused.

  20. What is only just becoming apparent (partly from the King's Zoe symptom survey) is that there are very many people (of all ages, including many young people who were fit and healthy before) who have ongoing, varied and debilitating Covid-19 symptoms which come and go, in some cases for months. Most of them will not have been seen in a hospital, though some have. If you are doing the Zoe survey and report symptoms, it actually gives links to a Facebook support group. Jimlad48, I suggest you do some research before posting your rather offensive opinions on here. And being over seventy and in the vulnerable group for other reasons, I find your assumption that my life is not worth saving repellent, to say the least. It's a pity this government didn't take the sort of action New Zealand did, then we would probably all be back to normal life by now.

Not as long as the EDT for example, no. How > long has it been where it is. ? It opened in July 2017, so nearly three years. I'm absolutely gutted it is closing, and judging by the number of followers it had on social media (I wasn't one of them, I just looked to try to find out when it opened) I won't be the only one. They had very good quality plants and pots and other nice things, they had things that were in all price ranges, they were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and never put pressure on you to buy. I really hope that they will be able to come back to East Dulwich in some form in the future.
  22. Once I found the right department to talk to (which took a lot longer than it should have done) I found Thames Water very helpful about a drainage issue at the front of my house.

I suspect that as soon as you show any signs of Covid symptoms, your posts on here will be somewhat less enthusiastic about "I might as well be dead anyway." Obviously I hope this won't be the case, however you put me in mind of Boris Johnson boasting about shaking hands with hospital patients with the virus, then ending up on a ventilator 😢 In case of any doubt, I don't wish you ill. I just find your attitude very strange .... Staying at home except for urgent appointments etc does not have to be "totally giving up on life" and in any case it's not for ever (one hopes!)

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Interesting that the UK has some of the most > Stringent Restrictions on Social Distancing > and Self Isolation .. > Compared to who? The UK locked down too late and not completely, and thousands of deaths could have been avoided if they had locked down even two weeks earlier. And "a little exposure" for some people can be fatal.
