  1. How was what I said "nasty", exactly, ED Bird? And when else have I been "nasty"? How can I be "a lot less nasty"? Please explain. Thanks. You can click on my name to see all my previous posts on here, if that helps you find examples. ETA: I'm really upset to see that you are one of what I thought were lovely people coordinating the help for people round here. I am self-isolating, and now I don't feel I want any help, however much I may need it. I am also back in bed and feeling quite ill. I can do without this, tbh.
  2. Great idea, Sweetgirl

You said "Surely East Dulwich does listen to the radio ...." I responded. This is a forum. If you don't like my posts, just ignore them, like I do most of yours. And I'm quite happy and fulfilled, but thanks so much for your concern :)) :)) :))

At least the government has finally taken some action to close down some of the places where people were going. Very very frightening indeed that this doctor's unit is already full, and things have scarcely started in this country.
  6. Cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants to close tonight. Finally.
  7. This should have been done earlier.
  8. Oh FFS. Are people really that gullible? Are you joking, Peckman? If not, what are they saying exactly, and how much money are they trying to extort?

I'll send you the rest of my shopping list privately :))
  10. Possibly staff are ill?

Perhaps we need a virtual pub! We could all sit at home with our drink of choice and make inconsequential chit chat over Zoom or something (not quite sure how that works, is it like Skype but like a conference call??) Cheers!

  15. Really hoping things will get better over the next few weeks, supply wise. I'm resigned to having some really weird meals based on what is currently in my larder and freezer :)) I'm also really kicking myself for running stocks down over the last few months, and also for not ordering more - even things I don't normally eat - at my last delivery, to make up for all the things I couldn't get. Hindsight is a wonderful thing :( Good luck everybody. ETA: And thanks to all the lovely local community minded people who are getting together to help others in the area.
  16. :)) :)) :))

She's such a good writer. I subsequently read most of her other books, which are completely different, eg Beyond Black. ETA: I bought Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies from charity shops, maybe I bought yours, clutterqueen :)

Do you think people should be ignoring government advice and going to these places? Yes it's terrible for the businesses and those who work there, but that's a separate issue which let's hope the government will properly address. I thought you were ill, DF. Do you think it's sensible to be wandering around East Dulwich when presumably you are at high risk of getting this virus badly if you catch it?
  19. I'm re-reading Bring Up The Bodies, prior to reading The Mirror and The Light. I've just re-read Wolf Hall. I'm thinking maybe I could have chosen a book with a different title, under the current circumstances :( ETA: I've been reading a lot more since I gave away my television :))
  20. If you are worried, you could somehow wash or otherwise sanitise your card every time you used it. I'm not sure how though. But I would have thought there was still less chance of passing on the virus by card than by cash. I'm sure others here will know a lot more than me about it!
  21. gromit3:16 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The shop worker has to handle the product you are > buying, so how will they work around that. That's one person, plus whoever has handled it between its original production and you. Taking a wild guess, not more than half a dozen. And retailers - and presumably producers, warehouses, wholesalers etc - are taking strict steps to keep things hygienic (not sure that's the word). Cash has probably been round hundreds of people, any one of whom could transmit the virus via the cash (or pick it up from the cash).
  22. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > What is happening is on the same level as > Looting. No it isn't. Looting is illegal and if you are caught looting you are liable to be locked up or at the least fined. Stocking up prior to potentially being stuck in your home for weeks or months is sensible, particularly under the current circumstances. What is wrong is a combination of some people buying more than they need, and retailers not having, or not sticking to, a maximum number of each item per customer. And (if that were possible) restricting customers to one lot of purchases per - week?
  23. gromit3:16 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's getting ridiculous No, it's not getting ridiculous. It is protecting people, including you, from getting ill, in some cases very ill, and in some cases dead.
  24. Thanks for all the supportive posts and PMs. In the end I downloaded a white noise app, which obviously I should have thought to do before. However the radio wasn't too bad yesterday. I am up and about now, thanks, all ready to continue self-isolating :)
