  1. https://www.closedpubs.co.uk/london/se15_peckham.html The link above is to a list of closed pubs in Nunhead and Peckham. Maybe one of the names will ring a bell?
  2. Probably someone from the other Nunhead pubs would be able to tell you? I'm assuming not The Man of Kent, as that's on a corner?
  3. I think The Bishop was The Foresters Arms? On a corner of Lordship Lane but not "the" corner by the roundabout (that's the EDT). The first pub you come to after the EDT, and before The Palmerston. Very rough pub, and you could smell the Gents toilet as soon as you walked in the door. When it became The Bishop, the owner had a dog who had a seat by the window permanently reserved for it, even when it wasn't in the pub .... The Actress is at the junction of North Cross Road and Crystal Palace Road, opposite where the old police house used to be.

When I bought my small terraced house nearly thirty years ago, it was described in the estate agent's blurb as an "artisan's cottage." I thought it was just estate agent language to make the house sound more attractive!
  6. Which is the Forest Hill entrance? Did you mean Dulwich Park, or the Horniman gardens? Hope you find it.

And I've discovered that some low alcohol beer is actually rather good (thank you Tesco!) so that was a health bonus 😂 Some still as dire as I remember, though ....

JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------- > > There's noises in the country too - cows, birds, > tractors and teenagers live in the country too > (they just have their parties in a rural rather > than urban setting) Having lived in both town and country, I would rather hear owls hooting - and the occasional sound of small animals screaming as the owls catch them - than some of the avoidable noises in the early hours round here .... Tractors don't tend to be out at night, on the whole, nor cows moo ... And teenagers tend to meet up with their mates in the towns/villages, not in the middle of the countryside ....
  9. Good to hear, hope that continues x
  10. Has that meant things have improved for you, mary123? I hope so.

  12. My partner and I were sitting in the garden, and we both heard and commented on the sirens. It is very usual to hear one or two, not so many at once. I thought we would hear of some local incident the following day. I doubt if we would have heard anything if we had been inside the house, so I'm a bit bemused as to why anybody would say there weren't any sirens just because they didn't happen to hear them!
  13. Me neither 🤣🤣🤣

Well yes, there is a massive difference!
  15. There was also a cobblers on North Cross Road, a pet food shop and a greengrocer, all now gone.
  16. Yes, The Actress was The Uplands Tavern. It was quite rough, although it had a brief time when they tried to bring it a bit upmarket. It had rooms upstairs. Someone we knew stayed there once, locked himself out, couldn't find anyone to let him in, and had to sleep on my sofa 🤣

KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Looks like you should have spring-cleaned Foxy. > Those moth-eaten patches happen in the covered / > dark undisturbed areas. Yep, the only room I had a carpet left was my bedroom, and the moths ate the carpet under the bed.
  18. I had carpet moths. I ended up taking up the carpets and painting my floorboards 🤣 though that wasn't just because of the moths! I have tried everything for clothes moths. None of the "natural" methods worked for me, sadly. I now use sticky pheromone traps to trap the males. I think it's cruel, but it's the only thing which has worked for me. I also put moth papers amongst all my clothes and fabrics. I diarise when the traps and papers need to be replaced, and also when I need to order more. Then I try to actually do it! I Google every time to try to get the cheapest deal, but it still costs a fortune! I stopped using sprays when I had a parrot staying here, and never started again. Also I don't think they're great if you have asthma. I do have some unused moth stuff which I don't want. I will put it all in the for sale/give away section at some point!
  19. This was a lot of sirens all at once, apparently coming from the same place. It was unusual.

  21. Jan15 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Has the fox on the hill become an estate agent now > I can't believe all this is really interesting The Fox on the Hill is still there, I'm pretty sure. Where do you live now, Jan15?

  23. I don't think you should "assume" anything, including that people are "doing the very best that they can."
  24. The Grove Tavern is now derelict. The Magdala became The Magnolia, then (briefly) The Patch. It is now The Lordship. The Lord Palmerston became The Palmerston, one of London's first gastro pubs, but is currently being boycotted by a number of people due to a rather nasty change of hands. The EDT is still the EDT 🙂 The parks are still there. You didn't mention the restaurants, but the Dulwich Tandoori is still there 🙂 Most other things have changed very drastically 🤣
  25. I did too and thought something serious had happened.
