I imagine they are probably reviewing their security arrangements, quite apart from any forensic investigations or whatever they/the police need to do in relation to the recent theft?

Thanks SE22cat, I don't think I could cope with Linux :)) My brain got exhausted around half a century ago trying to learn Fortran :)) (and yes I know they're different kettles of fish).

Crikey, it has really speeded up now! Thanks so much, JohnL. I use Firefox on my laptop for email and for anything else I need to do online (many many things :) ) I am most intrigued as to why it is "rather outdated for my (Dulwich Fox's) needs"?

I've never heard of anything like that? What do you need taking, is it very bulky?

ChoumertMatt, I have been clearing out my loft. I have a pair of walking boots I don't want. They have plenty of wear left in them, but they are thirty years old. I don't want to offend anybody by offering something old that they would not want, on the other hand somebody might prefer these to something more flimsy in the Winter (they are old style walking boots, leather with thick soles). Would you be able to make use of them? They are size six and a half (I bought them in Australia, but I think the sizing must be the same as here). If so, I'll give them a clean and some new laces and drop them round to the Copleston Centre.

The refresh suggested by JohnL automatically removes any Firefox extensions. I haven't upgraded to Windows 10, I've always had it on this laptop. But thanks for trying to help, much appreciated. However, fingers crossed, the refresh does seem to have speeded Firefox up so thanks very much, JohnL!! I'll keep you posted, I'm sure you are all waiting with bated breath :)) :)) :))

So I clicked on that "refresh" button in the link, and nothing at all happened. Although I am in Firefox at the moment. Not even any little dots going backwards and fowards :( I will try to find a similar button elsewhere ..... ETA: OK, done that. I don't think it has helped, but I'll try restarting Firefox again, and perhaps my laptop, and see what happens......

Perhaps by making billionaire tax avoiders pay up?? Those who haven't left the country to live in luxury elsewhere, of course.

Or is what you are talking about something different? On my old laptop I used to occasionally defrag etc, but I haven't done anything like that on this one ....

I use Firefox as a browser on my laptop. For some time now I have had terrible problems with it hanging all the time. If I open a new tab, it takes ages to actually open the page. I have googled what to do and have also looked at the Firefox help, but I don't really understand it (anything I have done has made no difference, and nor have Firefox updates). I did try a different browser (Opera) but it seemed really complicated to get my email synched in it (I have four email addresses for different purposes) so I gave up on that. I would prefer to stay with Firefox because I am used to it. Can anybody explain in very simple non-techy language how I can sort this out? I never used to have this problem, so I have no idea what has changed. I use Chrome on my mobile, which is quick and unproblematical :)

Dulwich Medical Centre - is it possible they could be getting worse
Sue replied to 1921's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would be careful before making the leap from DMC. I moved from DMC some time ago to a surgery in Herne Hill (I am within its catchment area), because I had been impressed by the receptionists, the general vibe, and a GP I saw there (I was there for a clinic she runs). It also had high ratings. I have also since heard from a pharmacist that people are happy with this surgery. I have been there a couple of years now, I think. At first things were fine, but I gradually realised that actually they weren't. The receptionists/admin are still great, and I don't have problems if I need an urgent appointment or telephone appointment, or even a not particularly urgent telephone appointment. However I have been quite ill this year and last year, and I have not been happy with some aspects of the actual medical care, for three separate issues. Ironically, I was quite happy with the medical care I had at DMC, but I moved from there because of the admin side. So be careful you are not going from the frying pan to the fire ..... I would have moved back to DMC, but I understand the most highly rated GP there is on sick leave? Also, consider the distance from your home to the surgery. When I was really ill, I had to get a taxi to the Herne Hill surgery, whereas I could probably have just about made it to DMC (with a bit of help). -
DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Voting is not compulsory in the UK. Only in > dictatorships. Is that what you want ?? > I stand to be corrected, but I thought the point about voting in dictatorships is not that voting is compulsory (although I'm sure it is), but that you are told who/what to vote for, and that they make very certain that you do vote that way. I would be all in favour of compulsory voting in this country (with possibly some sort of get-out as for conscientious objectors in the war? I admit that I have not thought this through at all :)) ) But the whole voting system needs to be overhauled first.

TheArtfulDogger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue , it's obvious how they are going to fund it > (regardless of party) squeeze stones till they > bleed Well, it depends on which stones they squeeze, doesn't it? I would prefer they were rich stones, who can afford to lose 99% of their money and still be very rich indeed. I would prefer that they weren't poor stones, who can ill afford to lose any more than the Tories have already squeezed out of them.
