I realise you've just googled Science Fiction and extracted that from a much longer definition, but have you actually read the book?

That wasn't science fiction!

To be fair, it was Monica who first posted about this: /forum/read.php?5,1401132,2067562#msg-2067562 Louisa wasn't able to comment there because she can only post in the lounge (again).

When I get these phone calls I always Google the number. There are several websites which will tell you if the number is spam. Then I keep it in my contacts as "spam" so I know not to answer it in the future. ETA: The last one I got was one of those accident calls. I was sitting in a hospital waiting room at the time. To my eternal regret, I didn't string them along ("Oh how strange, I'm in hospital at the moment as it happens". Lol.)

Of course some Royal Mail employees are dishonest, as in every workplace I imagine. It is possible that this game was stolen. But jumping to conclusions without proof is not terribly helpful. I used to work for Royal Mail. They always investigate incidents of possible theft, always prosecute, and also publicise in their employee newspaper when people are found guilty, presumably to deter others who think they can get away with it. Patterns of lost items are obviously helpful in identifying particular people to investigate.

More than 3.000 trees removed in East Dulwich

In the case of one tree near my house, this was done after neighbours complained that the tree was blocking light to their windows (and if memory serves that the branches were tapping on their windows). It is true that the tree now looks lopsided, but I doubt it is about to fall over! -
prisilla Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > When they checked the postman said it had been > delivered to my addressBut they can?t check it > because conveniently the gps doesn?t work in the > rain. If the postman had delivered it to the wrong address, he wouldn't have done that on purpose (I imagine) so if asked he would say he had delivered it to your address! I had a spate of getting letters either for neighbours or else people with my house number but in a different road. I agree being on good terms with your postie is really helpful. Mine recently took away a package when I was out and didn't leave a card, but delivered it the next day. He said he didn't want me having to collect it from Peckham (bless!) I suggest you contact Royal Mail and make a complaint, but I don't suppose they are open over the weekend: https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app/contact ETA: I don't think you should be accusing Royal Mail (or presumably one employee of theirs) of "stealing" your package when it doesn't seem as if you have any evidence for this. As suggested above, have you asked neighbours if they have it? I recently took in a parcel for a neighbour. When she hadn't collected it in several days, I took it round to her. She had no idea I had it as the postie hadn't left a card. This also happened around the same time with a different neighbour.

It probably has been delivered. To the wrong address.

Loutwo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sounds ridiculous to me. Because they don't want to pay an arm and a leg to have it delivered at the weekend or some other time when they are not working? Because they don't want to take a day off to wait in for a parcel? ETA: DulwichFox, not all companies use delivery services which enable you to track your parcels. In some cases you only know a parcel will be delivered some time between 8 and 6, or even later. That is massively inconvenient even if you aren't working. And even if you can track a parcel, you often don't get details of the delivery time until the morning of the delivery, which again is pretty useless if you work.

If it is coming into your garden below fence level, either you or they need to sink a strong barrier well below soil level to block it from doing that, I would have thought. It is a different issue from overhanging branches (which yes, you can just cut off on your side) and I doubt a tree surgeon would be the right person to deal with it. An experienced gardener might be able to help, or if you know someone who is a member of the RHS, ask them to contact the RHS for advice. Or try googling? ETA: When I say well below soil level, I mean the bottom of the barrier should be well below soil level. But I have no idea if the bamboo could still get through somehow. Some types are extremely invasive and it's better to plant them in a buried container of some kind (and even then they can break out of the container!)

Bonfires in (and around) SE22 Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Sue replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you don't have a spam folder, surely your inbox must be full of spam? What on earth is Windows 10 mail? It isn't 48 hours before the event yet, is it? -
NewWave Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Blue brick now take cards, lovely food and its > been lovely swift and friendly service every time > I've been. > can't praise enough and I'm not vegan or > vegetarian Agree the food is nice, but we stopped going there after waiting ridiculously long for our food on several occasions when it didn't seem to be particularly busy. Maybe things have improved? We will try again.

I left it too late this year. If you haven't received your ticket I should check your spam folder, and if it isn't there I would contact them, as security was tight last year and they probably won't let you in without it. Good luck! -

Not local, but Ethos (just off Oxford Street) is fantastic. Wide range of very yummy vegan food which you pay for by weight. Excellent value for money. However not the sort of place you would linger for hours over a meal and a few drinks - more the sort of place you would go to for lunch if you were shopping nearby. More boho but also yummy food is Vantra in Wardour Street (the Leicester Square end).

rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sorry for the ignorance, but what's the difference > between 'plant based' and vegan? I think you can have a very unhealthy vegan diet (ie not eating meat or dairy but eating a load of other crap). Whereas plant-based is (I think ) supposed to be more healthy and unprocessed. But I stand to be corrected :)) ETA: Just googled and found this: "A plant-based diet is a diet based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. ... A vegan diet is strictly against animal products, in every form. Not only do vegans not eat meat, dairy, eggs, or honey, they also don't wear animal products (think leather) or use products tested on animals." What kind of shop/eaterie would you like to see on LL?
Sue replied to imasnookercue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Never thought I'd see Edward Hopper mentioned in a thread about Lordship Lane! One of my favourite artists! :) -
Exactly the same happened to me. I had to go through them all and mark them as not spam. It's never happened before. I use gmail and have done for years.

That was a very kind thing to do, ponderwoman.
