I thought ants farmed aphids for their honeydew. Have I got that wrong?

Just did a quick google. If you haven't already seen them, these might be useful: https://www.dorsets.co.uk/swanage https://www.dorsets.co.uk/attractions/swanage

Thanks and thanks also to the people who PMed me. I have had a really good quote for Green Flag's Recovery Plus option via my insurance company (Direct Line) which appears to be less than a third what I'd pay if I bought it online via Green Flag's website (will double check I've got this right, obv :)) ) I've been with Green Flag in the past and they've been fine, but they've got very mixed reviews online. However the complaints seem to be more about delays in getting through to their office for admin matters, rather than their actual operational and breakdown service (they use local garages, but so do many others). Has anybody used them when they broke down, and if so were they reasonably quick and efficient?

Really impressed with the hard work, love and attention to detail which has gone into this shop. It's a fantastic addition to the area!

Will you have the use of a car, siousxiesue? And how long is your stay, and what distance from Swanage would you be willing to travel in a day, or are you mainly looking for things within a relatively short distance?

I love Swanage and went there loads as a kid. Not sure what the usual recommendations would be? Cliff walk to Worth Matravers is good but I guess you already know that ... Nice little pub there which often has live music. Ale and pies and a tiny museum at the back. Corfe castle. You can get a steam train from Swanage to Corfe (and back). It's fun and the people who run it are lovely. Weymouth (prejudiced as my mum was from Weymouth). Lovely beach and harbour. Lulworth Cove (but gets very crowded). Durdle Door, just a short walk from Lulworth Cove. Will think of more in the morning:) Swannery at Abbotsbury is wonderful but can't remember how near it is to Swanage. Upwey Wishing Well ditto. Fantastic gardens and a lovely little tea room.

Humdinger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > nah, all the old men that go into the Castle would > start going to the Wetherspoons, as despite the > Castle being the most reasonable pub around, it > would still be considerably cheaper in a Spoons. It might depend where the Spoons was situated. If just having a cheaper pint was what appealed, they could use their Freedom Passes now to go to the one in Forest Hill, a short bus ride away. So if they don't, there must be some other reason to stay with The Castle. Like the telly. We used to go to The Castle fairly often until the new manager replaced Jenny (and neither of us are old men, btw, but it had a great juke box and good Guinness). First time we went after that, the new manager turned off our music (which we had paid for) and put on some absolutely dire middle of the road (well, bottom of the road) Irish music so loudly we had to take our pints outside, and as it was also very loud outside (poor neighbours) we finished said pints quickly and left. Never to return. Which maybe I'm being paranoid but it felt like that was her intention. Don't get me wrong btw, I love a lot of Irish music, but this was truly terrible :)) I personally would like a Wetherspoons round here, but I can't see it's going to happen. But this thread is just an excuse for the usual (expletive deleted), isn't it?

I can't remember which country or city it was, but somewhere has recently brought in a law (I think) that only fireworks which don't make a noise can be used. A reasonable compromise??

Bin rummaging / stealing on Lordship Lane
Sue replied to FlatStanley's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Re the point above about burning/shredding paper, you can also put confidential papers (or the part of them with useable identifying features on) in a bucket (or bath) of water, with or without washing up liquid, leave them to soak for a bit, then mash them to a pulp. A lot quicker than shredding, at least if you only have a smallish personal shredder rather than a massive office shredder. However, don't do what I did and put the resultant pulp in a compost bin. It just all stuck together, the worms didn't like it, and I had to fish it all out again (still all stuck together) after months :)) I have no idea whether the pulp would go into the blue recycling bin or the green bin, though. I will soon find out, as I too am sorting through about twenty years' worth of financial stuff :( Admin: I know this is off topic, but I am responding to a post above. -

Can anybody recommend cheap but reliable breakdown cover, including HomeStart? MoneySavingExpert always recommends AutoAid, but they have terrible reviews elsewhere by people who have used them, and when I phoned them recently with a query I was less than impressed with the person on the other end of the phone. I have been with them in the past, but then I hadn't actually needed to call them out ..... I'd rather pay a bit more and get an efficient service if I need it (which I hope I won't).

I go to both. No probs at either.

'Never-use' plastic bags distributed by charities
Sue replied to TaVa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I use all the bags left by charities, as bin liners or for collecting stuff to compost. Why would you not? -
If you are driving probably better to find another way, avoiding the area!! I think it has broken down, but I'm on another bus so can't be sure.

Thanks RichH. Presumably if I do that I can link it again in the future should I want to?

I think it's highly unlikely Carbonite will go down at the same time as all my stuff suddenly disappears :) OneDrive doesn't have anything like enough storage for me .....
