    New T Charge

In relation to two posts above, I really don't see how polluting vehicles could suddenly be banned from an area altogether. And I'd like to know what evidence there is for anybody "lining their pockets" from this charge, or for it being "The Biggest Money Making SCAM ever." And as for "Khan could not give a Damn about peoples health. He wants to raise money to cover for failing council policies", I received the email below a couple of days ago: Dear Sue, Londoners have suffered for too long because of the Tories' refusal to act on air pollution. It's Labour that are taking real action to clean our air. The Toxicity Charge ? the T-charge ? starts today. It's part of my commitment to clean up London's dangerously polluted air, which contributes to thousands of premature deaths each year in our city. It damages health throughout our lives ? leading to smaller lungs in children, and greater risk of dementia, cancer and strokes when we get older. As of today, older and more polluting vehicles driving in the central London Congestion Charge Zone will need to meet minimum emission standards, or pay an additional ?10 daily T-charge. This is in addition to the Congestion Charge and will operate from 07:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday. This is only one part of my clean air plan, working alongside our fantastic Labour Councils to tackle this public health emergency. We are leading by example by cleaning up TfL's bus and taxi fleets, tackling pollution outside schools and introducing more cycle lanes. In the coming weeks we will be launching a London-wide Labour Party campaign on Air Quality. I look forward to working with you to take our message to the doorstep. Yours sincerely, Sadiq Khan Labour's Mayor of London And if anybody wants to use this to have a go at Labour, please first tell me exactly what the Tory government are doing about air quality. Edited for typo

If you aren't worried about its appearance, can't you just shove some anti rust stuff. (technical term) on the scratched bits?

Thanks I'll have a look but it's not really the height which is the problem ....

ETA: Had a look, think I'll read it in the morning :)) :)) :))
  6. I've edited my post above several times sorry, got the pics in the wrong place! They are right now!
  7. Doesn't look like bindweed to me. The flowers are completely different. Bindweed has Convolvulus type flowers. https://goo.gl/images/PoSRoc Those flowers look a bit like Russian Vine ( but not the leaves I don't think). https://goo.gl/images/CZoZsf Japanese knotweed image https://goo.gl/images/AWsteF ETA: Very sorry trying to do this on my phone!
  8. Autumnwatch tonight apparently "reveals the latest in a fox intelligence test" - from Bournemouth!
  9. KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not necessarily Foxy. > You can turn both rad valves to 'closed' and > (while keeping them attached to the system piping) > detach the radiator from both valves. > But you'll still have the valves in the way of getting the freezer round, the one nearest the front door, at least. That valve actually sticks out further than the rest of the rad.

  11. My solution - have an old banger like mine, then it won't matter (only joking). Hope you get it sorted.
  12. Yes I know, that's why I said I was hoping it wouldn't come to that.
  13. I don't suppose anybody is going to give any information until everything is finalised, whoever takes Chener over next year.

Surely "Country Folk", as you call them (I presume you mean people who live in the country), know much more about "Wild Animals" than people who live in the cities. They see a lot more of them, and also see the damage they can cause. As SpringTime says, foxes sometimes kill without eating what they have killed, and it is the farmer and his/her animals who suffer. That's got nothing to do with "the need to feed itself", as you also say above? You live in an urban street. Are you seriously suggesting that you know more about foxes and have more experience of them than somebody who was brought up in the country?
  15. Thanks folks. Yes, I have made sure that the freezer can fit under the stairs with the lid open. I have taken copious measurements and spoken at length to the manufacturer re various issues :) Cardboard box template is a good idea, thank you, and yes it is the lid which will be crucial as the height is irrelevant (I think) at the point it's being manoeuvred in, assuming it stays upright. I don't think turning it on its side will help as the height is greater than the depth, but I'm not good at imagining things in 3D. I don't suppose there's an app either, but worth looking I guess! I have had several fridges, freezers and fridge-freezers over the decades, so I'm well aware of potential issues arising from tilting and moving them, but thanks anyway. I believe it is less of a problem with modern technology. I'm assuming that the people who deliver it will be putting it in situ, as they did with my existing fridge-freezer, but I will double check (and also double check that they will take it away again and refund my money if they can't get it in :)) ) Oh, and just to add to the complexity, there is an effing radiator opposite the space under the stairs, which reduces the space available to manoeuvre the freezer in (and yes I've checked re temperature issues, and ventilation, and all is fine!) If push came to shove (possibly literally) I might have to get someone to remove the rad and put it back again, but I'm really really hoping it won't come to that ..... ETA: Love the chimp ad!
  16. I have decided on the chest freezer I want. I have ascertained that it will fit under my stairs - once I have got it there. How can I work out whether it will go round the corner of the stairs? The actual spaces will fit the depth, but it's manoeuvring the length round the corner which could be problematical. I have had a chest freezer in the house many moons ago, but I can't remember the dimensions and how they compared to this one.
  17. I've just found a post-it with some figures on .... For the MailChimp "Forever Free" option you can send up to 12,000 emails per month (I think that is per calendar month) You can have up to 2,000 people you send them to. You can send up to 2,000 emails in any 24 hour period. Helpfully, MailChimp provides a record of how many emails you have sent, and when, broken down by month, on one page in your account.
  18. Do not on any account use Your Mailing List Provider. I now use MailChimp and yes it is challenging. Someone I know gave me a tutorial to start me off, and I have muddled through from there. I'm getting used to it now, two or three months in. You get a good number of mailouts free per month, however you cannot send two within 24 hours (this caused me some difficulty recently when I needed to correct an error). But I have googled reviews of some alternatives, and they seem a lot worse. There is a very comprehensive "help" section, however there is no additional customer service unless you pay. ETA: I'd be happy to walk you through what I do if that would be useful, though it may be too basic for you. I set up an initial template but now I just edit previous newsletters by deleting and adding text and adding, duplicating and moving sections around then editing them.
  19. I heard today on Facebook that the developers have withdrawn their planning appeal, so Greendale is safe. Apologies if there is another thread on this already. ETA: Oh yes sorry, it's on the DHFC thread. I'll leave this here though in case people don't read that thread.

No, sadly it always seemed a bit amateurish, including the signage, and there was nothing to entice one in (unlike the yummy looking cakes in the window at Luca's.
  21. It depends who takes it over and whether it remains a book shop, doesn't it?
  22. Abe_froeman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Apparently the Homemade Kitchen cake shop being > stripped out on North Cross Road is going to > become a book shop too. Really? With two others within a five minute walk of it? That seems strange, unless it is going to be very specialised.

    New T Charge

Thanks for posting the link, Penguin68. My ancient Micra is eligible but as I avoid the congestion charge zone anyway I should be OK.
  24. Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And the money for the rent and a manager would > come from where? > > Presumably from the revenues and profits of being > a bookshop? Being run by volunteers? Unpaid volunteers? As in a charity shop? Do you have any examples of this working anywhere as a financially viable concern? In an area with rents on a level similar to those in Lordship Lane? It would be nice to think it could work, but I really can't see it.
