  1. On a separate but related subject, I have an old microwave to dispose of, is there any way I can get that collected free? Don't really want a trip to the tip just with that though I will if I have to. ETA: Sorted thanks to a very kind forum member
  2. Thanks, obviously I did google beforte I posted on here. I found a few children's services, including Christingle, and including on Christmas Eve, but I was really looking for an adult carol service. Sorry, I should have been clearer in the original post. ETA: I will add this to the original post.

It needs to fit on a shelf so I'm limited by the vertical dimension. I'm thinking 40". Screens are different now and although my 26" just fits in, I think a 40" would now (I've looked up some dimensions). I have one of those long narrow living rooms (small terraced house with a through living room), I can't move the sofa and there's an open fire opposite, so the only place to put the telly is in the alcove. I could make the shelf lower so there is more space above it, but I'd need to get someone to do that as they are floating shelves. Anyway I don't want a TV dominating the room, I don't watch it that much .... Another issue is that where the telly is is about the worst place in the house for a WiFi signal, so unless I move the router I'm going to have to get those power line things to increase the signal there (or get a more powerful router but I'm not sure that would work).
  4. beansprout Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > All Saints Church in West Dulwich are doing > various things - check their website I can't see anything on their calendar mentioning Christmas at all, let alone carols!! Am I looking in the wrong place, or have they just copied and pasted their usual activities to 24th and 25th December?
  5. Thanks Loz, it seems quite hard to find non smart TVs! I have a ten year old 26" TV at the moment, looking to get a bigger screen to fit in the same space.

What's it called, nxjen? I'm presently watching stuff via iPlayer on my laptop.
  7. Thanks, that's useful, so you can just do a month at a time? This is all new to me :))
  8. Start- Settings-Devices-Typing-Keyboard? Then click on keyboard and go from there?
  9. I am vaguely considering getting a Smart TV. Or at least, a new TV. Probably not before Christmas though. I am presently on an Amazon Prime free trial which I signed up to by mistake. If I'm not going to use it I need to cancel it PDQ. Does anybody use Amazon Prime for videos etc and if so how does it compare to Netflix (for example)? I just had a quick look, and it seems you have to pay for movies on top of the monthly payment? I don't watch many movies but would watch documentaries and some TV programmes. Are there any other advantages of Amazon Prime (apart obviously from being tempted to buy loads of stuff you don't really need?) I'm not bothered about the one day delivery, Amazon delivery is usually pretty quick anyway. I haven't really got time to do loads of research online, so I'm hoping somebody will be able to give me the basics on here! ETA: I presently have a Topfield box, but that's only useful if I remember to record something I want to watch ..... ETA: My experience of Prime to date has not been great - having given a preferred delivery slot, they sent a series of conflicting emails about when the item was going to come ....and then delivered it a day earlier than I'd asked without telling me (luckily I was in) so I really wasn't sure what the point of having specified a slot in the first place was :))

  11. Thanks all, not sure why this thread has been resurrected now over six months later, but anyway the "worse" yellow stain came out when I washed it as normal after using the Stain Devil. Thanks for everybody's suggestions, anyway, which I will bear in mind for the future!
  12. They have always looked like pound signs to me!
  13. Are there any churches locally with carol services (not midnight mass) on Christmas Eve? St John's on Goose Green used to have carols immediately before midnight mass, but it doesn't seem to be doing that this year. ETA: To be clear, I am looking for adult carol services, not Christingle or childrens' carol services, as I won't be with any children this year. And preferably late evening services.

I used to get loads of starlings in my garden. A few years back one of them got carried off by a bird of prey, and since then I haven't seen a single one :(
  15. Thanks for the link, ianr. Good to know that the victim is doing better than expected, and also that he and his girlfriend think that justice has been done.

But that was all related to the place where they were staying, wasn't it? There was no evidence that they committed any crimes anywhere else, was there?

  18. I thought you were joking, but I just looked out of the window!

  20. A water rat ran across my path in Peckham Rye park on its way to the lake today. There are usually several around the boardwalk in Dulwich Park, too.

Or also probably less potential crime at 7am than 3am? Hope you aren't too shaken, it sounds very scary.

Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Besides, the browser password save system is > notoriously insecure - you shouldn't use it for > any passwords for important/financial stuff. You wouldn't be able to for financial sites I think, even if you wanted to, because they ask for random characters from the password rather than the whole password.
  23. Sorry posted twice by mistake.
