If you changed to a water meter, you could probably afford at least six packs of six per year with the money you would save. Unless, of course, you use absolutely enormous amounts of water :)) :)) :)) ETA: http://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/house-garden/kitchen-appliances/best-water-filter-jug-review-glass-for-limescale-brita-system-argos-bobble-10206842.html According to this article, Argos has a jug whose replacement filters are ?14.99 for four, so slightly cheaper. The wonders of Google, eh? You can probably find them even cheaper. -

If you look at MoneySavingExpert, they have comparisons of all the providers depending on what you need, together with points for customer service. I personally wouldn't go with anybody with a poor customer service record, regardless of how cheap they were. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband Also, look at Top Cashback. I was very wary of this, but recently got ?17 paid into my bank account for buying something I would have bought anyway. https://www.topcashback.co.uk/category/broadband-isp/ My broadband contract with Plusnet ends tomorrow. I should have done something about it before but haven't. All this info makes my head hurt. I'm going to see what's the best deal they can offer me and they compare it with the others. ETA: Sorry, that MSE link doesn't seem to give the customer service ratings, but I have seen them somewhere recently, possibly on another page of the MSE website.

Water in East Dulwich Area Tasting of Chlorine.
Sue replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
According to Thames Water, cloudy looking water is caused by trapped air in the pipes, and running your taps for a minute or two should clear it. This is according to the letters sent to me recently concerning the water supply possibly being temporarily cut off due to work on pipes nearby. Not saying this is the reason for your cloudy water, but worth investigating as a possibility? -

Thanks for taking so much trouble over this, civilservant -
I enquired about having a mirror as a cooker splashback (to reflect light around, not to gaze in :)) ) I was told it would be dangerous (maybe because of the heat, can't remember now). If you want a mirror in your kitchen, go for it, I say! Can't see it's any different to having a mirror anywhere else. It makes the room look bigger and lighter.

Thames Water Essential Work in the area..
Sue replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Right hands and left hands. I have just received a letter dated 1 March saying that there will be essential work "in my area" on Monday 12 March. As it has the same reference number as one of the other two letters (the one referring to work on 22 February) I presume this is the postponed work. They haven't phoned me yet ..... but the 24 hours is not up ..... :) Update: They haven't phoned me at all. Just checked my phone - no missed calls. Perhaps they found out the letter had been sent (seven days in the post? I don't think so). -
:)) :)) :))

And have you reported the water leak to Thames Water? I don't think it's about "clout". It's about Thames Water's priorities during a very busy period. A large number of their customers in South London were unexpectedly without water for a considerable length of time, and had to collect bottled water, in some cases from a long distance away. I imagine that they want to deal with sorting the aftermath of all that first, particularly since it was something of a customer relations disaster, if what I have read is true. They don't have unlimited resources, and will have to direct them towards what they see as the most important work. I doubt Ulverscroft Road is it, as this was pre-planned work. We were very lucky not to be amongst those who were without water last week. -

I have just called Thames Water to find out when the work originally scheduled for 22 and 28 February in Ulverscroft Road is likely now to be done. They said that so far as they can see, with everything else that has been going on (obviously there have been more pressing things for them to address over the past week with the snow etc) the work in Ulverscroft Road has not yet been rescheduled. They can't presently see anything "on the system", however they are going to call me back within 24 hours to update me on the situation. The poor woman I spoke to (who was very helpful but had to get the actual info from another department) had been called in from the billing department to help on the phone lines, which indicates the amount of calls they are getting at the moment. I felt a bit bad for adding to them, but having had large pots of water sitting about my kitchen for over a week, being gradually used up and then refilled, I'd quite like to know when I'm actually going to possibly need them, grammar :) -

Just having a break from looking at potential new broadband providers, btw, because I have so much time on my hands :)) :)) :)) ETA: Oh, and those regulars said quite clearly why they were leaving, so I'm not quite sure why you use the words "unfairly blamed" :))

Personally I'm more interested in the content of what people post than their number of posts. Helpful posts giving useful information - good. Items for sale or wanted - good. Genuine recommendations for tradespeople - good on the whole, probably more good than bad Opinions based on demonstrable facts - good. Personal experiences when they are relevant to the thread topic - good mostly Vindictive personal attacks - bad Deliberate trolling to get a response - bad Lying - bad None of the other forums I post on have any of the last three categories, to the best of my knowledge, however heated the discussions become. ETA: A considerable number of people who had been regular posters on here for years left because of ridiculous posts on here that it was impossible to respond to because of the totally illogical reasoning. The wading through treacle posts 😀 Sometimes hard to tell whether the illogical reasoning is deliberate but quite subtle trolling, or whether the posters concerned really do think (I use the term loosely) like that 😀

Bic Basher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So are we looking at Cllr John buying the stadium > from Meadow, then selling it for a loss to Legacy > like they did with the Heygate Estate? I understood a well known footballer (Rio Ferdinand? I don't know footballers' names!) was trying to buy the land, and has already offered ten million pounds, but Meadow are not responding to his attempts to contact them. And to be fair it seems to me that the council are being very supportive and doing their best to help.

Surely the whole point of contactless payments is that they are for small transactions?

I was making a general point. What point are you making? Of course I have time in my day. I am retired. I no longer work very long hours plus commuting across London. I am actually usually very busy, including booking, promoting and running music gigs and growing flowers and vegetables, and in gaps in between being very busy I post on this forum and also on Facebook. I hope that's OK with you :)) Are you trying to start an argument now? :) :)) :)) ETA: And if "the figures do not lie", perhaps you could give a yearly (or monthly) breakdown of posts, as suggested by both myself and The Cat above. Not that it matters anyway. So what if some people post on here more than others? It's a bloody forum, that's what it's here for :)) :)) :)) In fact I have just posted this as a bit of light relief from slogging through a tedious spreadsheet .......

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Who's got the most time on their hands.. > > User Posts > > Sue 18,365 > Foxy 8,779 > Louisa 5,537 > Rendel 3,013 Figures like that are completely meaningless posted out of context. Perhaps you could also post up the date these people joined the forum. Also, some people retain the same user name, others change theirs, in some cases quite frequently. So you would have to add all their posts together, under their different names. But nice try :)) ETA: An average number of posts per year would be a better comparison. It would also be instructive to break the posts down into what forum sections they were posted in. And as for better forums than the EDF for a good argument, there's been quite a recent ding-dong on a no-dig allotment group on Facebook, as to whether the use of glyphosate (a systemic weedkiller) to clear a plot of couch grass on a one-off basis prior to planting is compatible with the no-dig philosophy :))

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > I realise it would be simpler in my current > situation but at ?1.05 a day, I'm happy. > Dulwich Fox, it takes a very short time to instal the meter, it is free in your current situation, and you would probably halve your water bills. It may not sound much a day, but it mounts up over a year and beyond. I am saving a thousand pounds over five years. If that makes no difference to you, then lucky you! It's making a lot of difference to me. -
AllyCat Wrote: - > > I've also bought a few products form this great > website - https://andkeep.com - plastic free > cotton buds (which come in a cute paper box) and > some Beeswax wraps, which are brilliant... Thank you for that, I wasn't aware of that website. Does anybody know of a non-plastic substitute for freezer storage? I wash and re-use bags and containers as much as I can, but I'd prefer some other method.

Calsug Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Just did the online calculator that Sue suggested, > seems we are paying about double the amount we > should! I will only charge you a small consultancy fee :)) :)) :)) ETA: The actual installation of my meter all went very smoothly with good communication, and as it is outside the house on the pavement, there was very little disruption. And an added advantage is that I no longer have to go down in my coalhole to reach the stopcock, as the water is now turned off (if necessary) outside at the meter. So I have been able to put a chest freezer over the trap door (under the stairs) to the coalhole, in the knowledge that it's unlikely I will have to move it to get down there. Win-Win :) -

Calsug, that sounds a lot to me. There is an online calculator you can fill in to assess whether you would be better off with a meter. I found Thames Water very helpful. There was no pressure (no pun intended :) )
