  1. I do do it online. But so far (not having Smart technology) my laptop is not able to miraculously read my meters and transmit the information to my energy provider. I regularly send them readings online - but they have to occasionally check them. . Innit. And yes of course the dodgy ones are not going to ransack your home whilst you are standing there. They are seeing if it's worth them, or whoever they pass the info about your possessions/standard of living to, coming back. At this time of year, probably after Christmas. Or just before. When there is likely to be new stuff around.
  2. I had a meter reader turn up this morning. He had a company name on his jacket, and knew my name and which power company I am with, so I let him in. I didn't ask for ID. However, I have a duel fuel contract, and he was only there to read the electricity meter, which I found a bit odd, so I may check with them just in case. He didn't appear to be looking about for stuff to come back and steal (just as well as there isn't any :)) )

I think the move to Peckham is now a done deal. ETA: There was a demonstration earlier this year outside the sorting office, one Saturday morning, before a final decision had been made. Our MP Helen Hayes turned up for it. Hardly anybody else did. There were about a dozen people there in total, and that's probably an overestimate. So I don't suppose that turnout conveyed to Royal Mail that there was very strong local feeling against the closure.
  4. Or try and find out who was delivering or removing stuff in the road at that time. The person having work done may know or could find out. Then see if there are marks on the relevant vehicle or if it has just been "repaired" ?
  5. Sorry duplicate post

Prison or a fine is too good for them, > they deserve something much worse. Someone who would do this is clearly not well and needs help. What is the "much worse" you think they deserve? I say that as an animal lover.
  7. According to the news tonight the police have traced two of the drivers, who are being interviewed.
  8. Lucky you, I've never seen any round here!
  9. Might it be cheaper in the long run to get the car mended out with the insurance? I know you have to report it to them but not sure how it works other than that.

Well, we ancient people can't all afford more expensive accommodation than that when travelling, remarkable as that may sound for somebody who lives in East Dulwich :))
  11. I can't help, just wanted to say I feel for you. And my suspcious mind suspects that at least some of the workmen know exactly who it was. For which suspicion I have no evidence whatever. But most white vans in my road seem to have something to do with all the building work going on.

I don't know the ins and outs of trains through Denmark Hill, but I just looked up the Freedom Pass rules and amongst them is that you can only travel after 9.30am on "Southeastern services between Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye". I have certainly been stopped at London Bridge when travelling on a Freedom Pass before 9.30am, and made to buy a ticket, because I didn't know (but this was travelling from East Dulwich not Denmark Hill) If staff are randomly stopping Freedom Pass holders from catching a train which they are entitled to travel on on their pass at that time of day, then personally I would make a formal complaint.

I can't remember exactly now, but isn't one of the reasons the delivery office is closing down and moving to Peckham because there is insufficient room? Especially at this time of year, I imagine they just physically haven't got enough space to put all the parcels, let alone try and organise them so that they can easily find them. I'm not trying to defend the indefensible, so if the issue is actually bad management, then that is clearly something which needs to be addressed. (And also dare I mention - privatisation.) ETA: Also - you can complain. Online. So that your feelings get to somebody who (maybe, just maybe) can get something done about it, which posting on here can't, satisfying as it is to vent :)

I have connected my laptop to my TV in the past, but my laptop screen is smaller than my TV screen! :)

  17. Yes, if this proposal was abroad somewhere (or even elsewhere in the UK) I would be in its target market, and I'm retired. And not likely to be disruptive (I hope!) For various reasons I don't particularly like the new incarnation of The Cherry Tree, and I don't go there any more, but nevertheless I would be sorry to see it close. If they brought back the fantastic chef who was there for a very brief period when it was also under excellent management (all sacked by the previous vile owners) I would be eating there as often as my finances allowed. However sadly that won't happen, so I shan't be.

When you say the Firestick has Netflix on it, presumably you still have to pay for a Netflix subscription? ETA: I'm wondering about getting a Firestick or similar and using it on my existing TV to see how I get on with it, before I decide what new TV to get ...... but I don't particularly want to get trapped in anything with a load of Amazon ads etc ....
  19. How can you "accidentally" instal keylogging software?!
  20. I also heard via someone who worked there that they were hoping to open again soon.

  22. I have enjoyed this thread for many reasons :))
  23. Ah, OK, thanks.
