  1. I saw the piece about the sanctuary. Disgraceful. If there is illegal activity which if I understand you rightly the police are turning a blind eye to (grammar), then cannot the local MP or councillors take the matter up in the appropriate quarters? Or failing that a local (or indeed national) paper?
  2. I thought hunting was illegal? Are they hunting foxes, or some mechanical thing or what?
  3. I don't know about other satnavs, but if you use Google Maps, you can look at a text description of the route before you set off. Or indeed look at the map in advance to see which way it is going to take you ..... And it tells you the estimated length of time the journey will take before you set off ..... And shows you where there is heavy traffic and gives you alternative routes to avoid it. Glad you got there safely in the end :)
  4. Which end of Upland Road is it? ETA: I ask because I frequently hear a dog barking lately, and it's possibly in Upland Road, if it was the end near The Actress.
  5. We realised there must have been a power cut last night because the clock on the cooker was flashing. Thanks for the confirmation!

I'm with Flow and their customer service is very good too. However I do always check out alternatives whenever my current contract comes to an end, and sometimes in between as well.

I imagine if the same people could only see in black and white, they would claim that there was no colour, and anybody who said they could see in colour was talking nonsense. Some people are more sensitive than others.
  8. I couldn't possibly comment :))
  9. There is a lovely book by Carol Ann Duffy about ageing and death, called "The Gift". It also has beautiful illustrations. It's very short. I think it would be suitable for a six year old but obviously you would have to decide whether it might help your daughter, and whether now would be an appropriate time anyway. I'm very sorry for your loss, and I really feel for your daughter. ETA: Cruse may be able to recommend a suitable counsellor? http://www.crusebereavementcare.org.uk
  10. Well you're a charming little ray of sunshine, Dog duck, aren't you :)) ETA: Maybe you should just stick to the word association thread. You seem to spend a lot of time there. Some of your posts on it give us all an interesting insight into your character .... I just clicked on your name and all the words were there ....
  11. Those hard overcooked watery scrambled eggs are vile.

As soon as one house near me finally completes whatever building work they are having done, another one starts. Front and back. Right and left. Banging, drilling, sawing, shouting. A lot of shouting. Lorries. Vans. Skips arriving, skips departing. I can't imagine most of the houses in my road have anything left they could possibly need doing to them (apart from mine :)) ) And now I have Thames Water doing something to a sewer a few metres from where I am trying to work. Every other word seems to be the F word, and they seem to be permanently encamped there. With pneumatic drills. I feel your pain :)

  14. Live and let live? Each to their own etc?

  16. I have to return some taps which were delivered on Monday. They aren't faulty, just unsuitable, long sad story. The whole package weighs just over 4kg. Does anybody know the best/cheapest way of doing this? Thanks.
  17. I'm glad at least that something is happening to the site.
  18. I hope the cyclist is OK. This happened to my daughter's mother-in-law. She was in hospital for several days and took quite a long time to recover.

  20. Oh dear, commiserations, hope you get it sorted. We had five thousand 2018 Goose flyers which had to be redone because the printer had made a mistake. They did pay, but it was annoying and the incorrect ones all had to go in the recycling :(
  21. I just want to say how happy I am with my Roku stick, it's brilliant. Thanks again for all the help on this thread, especially the Sainsbury's mention! Looking forward to Part Three of The Crown now, and have very belatedly discovered Sherlock :))
  22. Ha ha well spotted (so to speak :)) )
  23. As it was the printer's fault, should they not send replacements to the correct address? Are they time critical?

  25. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I assumed 'late night gardening' was some sort of > euphemism / code. Turns out it's just late night > gardening. Very disappointing. :)) I must say I can't see any problem with people gardening at night provided they aren't disturbing anybody. Each to their own and all that. I'd probably do the same if there were things I hadn't had time to do in the day and I had enough light to see by. Or is Louisa doing a KK bus and car type post? Who knows. Well apart from Louisa, obv :)) ETA: The bulbs I can understand. It's past the time most bulbs should have been planted, so they were probably desperate to get them in. I've only just planted some of mine, and I had been fretting about it for weeks :(
