Thames Water Essential Work in the area..

I would be interested in this, however I'm not sure how feasible it would be. You would presumably need premises to store the stock, and people to run the thing. Would it be some sort of co-operative, or would it be making a profit for somebody? Is there legislation around food storage? I'm sure there are similar schemes elsewhere, so wheels wouldn't need to be invented. I'd be interested for things like oats, oils, rice, lentils, seeds, however I would not be buying anything in huge quantities. I wonder in these busy days how many people would make the time to use a scheme like this on top of their other shopping. There is already a local group which buys in bulk from a wholefood company.

The production company said that they would back me up in any claim I made against you, or in any claim you made against me, not least because they saw the standard (and extreme slowness) of your work on the final day of the project, which was the reveal. 2. You have had at least four user names on this forum. 3. Looking back at my records, I see that as well as sending you the recorded delivery letter which you did not pick up, I also emailed it to you, which you did not respond to either. 4. I have a full file of correspondence, photos and other evidence relating to the work in question. 5. I also have relevant screenshots relating to posts on this forum. Many people on this forum know me in real life and know that I am not a liar. East Dulwich and Nunhead are small places, and over the years I have met - in different contexts - quite a few people who know you or have had dealings with you, including those who you have started work for and not completed. I suggest you don't dig yourself in any further. ETA: If you have evidence that I cancelled a meeting and did not rearrange it, or evidence that I have at any time lied to you or about you, then please post it up here. I have nothing to hide whatsoever. ETA: And now can we get back to discussing the original post on this thread.

Exactly. Oh and btw, "PokerTime", I did not go to the Small Claims Court because you told me there was no point in doing so because you had no money. Edited for typo.

Because it was never offered in your case and similarly why would a client who thinks they are so right not go to small claims court? There are indeed two sides to every story and sometimes there is even documentary evidence to support one side. The person concerned, not a million miles from yourself although probably at the time posting on here under one of your several other forum names, was sent a recorded delivery letter by me, with documentation. This letter was dated 27 August 2009 and included a repetition of my offer of using the services of an impartial and objective mediator. This letter was returned to me by Royal Mail a considerable time later because it was never collected from the delivery office. You did however post on this forum saying that you were not willing to take part in mediation. I imagine that that post is long deleted, along with other posts in that particular exchange. Why somebody would not pick up recorded delivery letters addressed to them is a mystery to me. Edited to include the post by "PokerTime".

A plumber would be able to tell you. In fact I'm pretty sure a plumber would be able to sort the whole thing out? Good luck! -

Delivered, on each occasion. If we were going to pick it up, we might as well eat in the restaurant!!

People are so endlessly disappointing > sometimes. Maybe either the neighbours could be persuaded to come in and listen to their TV (or whatever) from the other side of the wall, or alternatively the person finding it noisy could ask to come in and hear what volume it is from the neighbours' side? It's all a bit subjective otherwise. As is what is an acceptable level, though. I presume Southwark Noise Control could advise on that, though I don't know how they measure it. ETA: With the room layout in smaller houses, it may be very difficult to find a place for either the television or speakers which isn't against a neighbour's wall, which obviously adds to the problem.

Memsaab are great for eat in meals, but the takeaways we have had from them have been so very not good we shan't use them again. No idea why this should be.
-
I think some people who complain about noise are unaware that their "noisy" neighbours can hear them only too clearly as well. If you choose to live in a house or flat with walls adjoining someone else's, it is often going to be an issue. If the noise is extremely loud and regular, then hopefully a polite word in person should help, as presumably (most) people do not go out of their way to annoy their neighbours. Reacting in a less polite way is likely to make relations worse. If it's the occasional one off noisy incident, then live and let live, no? But as Ilona M says above, in old houses sound travels in very weird ways.

James, I had a speedy response to my contact to Southwark online via the form, and they emailed me a few days later to check that I was happy with the outcome. It didn't seem to me that the system wasn't working. Councils are hard pressed for funding, I thought, and taking phone calls is time consuming and prone to mistakes being made in recording the details of the issue. It is also very frustrating if nobody answers, or you keep getting voicemail and nobody calls back. At least with the present system you get immediate acknowledgment of your issue and, if memory serves, a reference number. I agree the present system is not ideal for those without access to a computer or without relevant knowledge, but there are libraries with computers and helpful staff. I am ancient and manage to cope :)) And I'm not sure what is the difference between an online form and an email. I have an online form on a website and the messages from it come to me as an email to my normal email address. BTW if I misread Hammerman's post then Hammerman, I apologise. I took it to mean that I hadn't contacted the council at all.

I've got no problem with killing a pig in those circumstances. The main diet of the Mentawai people was sago, supplemented with the occasional small fish. I'm sure they welcomed a change. If memory serves, they used to eat monkeys, but there were none left on the island as their predecessors (is that the right word?) had killed them all :( I have a bit of a problem with eating pork from a pig who has been eating human shit. And it would have been considered extremely rude not to. It was considered a feast. So I did. ETA: And no, I am neither vegan nor vegetarian, and I wasn't in those days either. I won't knowingly eat factory farmed meat or other animal products, though. ETA: Come to think of it, there were a lot of chickens about the hut, so they must have had eggs. And the occasional chicken.
