    Afternoon Tea

This all reminds me of somebody who posted on this forum to criticise in no uncertain terms somebody who had spent their own money on their own wedding dress, on the grounds that she had spent too much. I really don't see why anybody should justify what they spend their own money on to anybody else. We are hardly talking about a "Let them eat cake" situation. Oh, hang on though ..... :))
  2. Yes, that's why I started the thread ..... This area presumably all comes under the same transmitter.
  3. Apparently Freeview is changing in this area on 21 March. If you use Freeview you will probably have to retune for some channels. https://www.freeview.co.uk/tvchanges?utm_source=nmpipaidsocial&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=700mhzpaidsocial

Your posting history since registering on the forum at the end of January doesn't exactly indicate great intellectual capacity, so if I were you I would be wary of calling other people's posts pathetic :)

I don't imagine many people go for that, but if they do, so what if it's a special occasion and they can afford it? Many families don't have as much to spend on food as you pay for an Indian meal out or a couple of pints at the EDT. Or a holiday in Turkey. Is your expenditure on those things obscene as well?
  6. At least you didn't pay them in advance.

Also you can do London-y things before/after the tea (or lunch). My sisters and I sometimes meet up in the V&A, which has lovely rooms to eat in, but I don't think they do afternoon teas as such.

I'm guessing poppadums, a main course, a side, rice and a bottle of Cobra probably come to around ?20. Quite likely more, depending on what you have. So a one-off afternoon tea (without the champagne) at the Wolseley (sic), a very nice restaurant in central London, for a special trip out with close relatives, comes to less than you would spend in your normal daily life on two run of the mill meals at a bog standard local restaurant. Correct? We all spend our money in different ways.

Some people occasionally go out for one-off treats with close family members. That is hardly indicative of their general lifestyle :)) I believe you eat out quite often at local Indian restaurants, Dulwich Fox. What would you pay for poppadums, a main course, rice, side dish and a Cobra? Twenty quid a pop? More? So an afternoon tea at a lovely central London restaurant would be the equivalent cost of less than two run-of-the-mill meals at a bog standard local Indian restaurant. But don't let that stop you having a go at me :)) Oh, and the two hundred quid a year I'm saving by changing to a water meter more than covers the cost of the occasional treat like this :)) You spend your money how you like, and I'll spend mine how I like. Live and let live. OK? :))

    Afternoon Tea

Rolo Tomasi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > https://www.thewolseley.com/ Probably too late as you are probably on your way, but I had afternoon tea at The Wolseley with my sisters a year or so back. It was excellent. Amazing room, good service, lots of yummy afternoon tea type food. We booked a table, but I don't know whether that's essential. Probably best to be on the safe side. Looking at their website, I didn't know that Zedel (just off Piccadilly Circus) was associated with them. Also a lovely (different) room and good service, but let down by the quality of the food in my opinion. Good value for money though. Sorry, I'm digressing from afternoon tea. The Wolseley (or similar) would definitely be nicer, and more memorable, than one of a chain which tend to be similar wherever you go. Have a lovely time wherever you go!
  17. Great pic! Toadsporn :))
  18. Saw two Nuthatches in the woods this afternoon, walking up a tree. Also heard a woodpecker.
  19. Don't worry Rendel, I'm not posting on this thread any more, I am feeling quite confused :)) ETA: You have a good weekend too!

Fine if you don't want people to know who you are, though personally I think it's nice to know who people posting on here are off the forum, as it's a local forum, but then what point were you making in saying you were invited to the forum drinks, if you didn't actually go? Wading through treacle time again :)) Are we having "a good argument", by the way? :)
  21. That's interesting, thanks James.

Sort it out. "Sort it out" ?!?!?! What does it have to do with you, exactly? You don't have to read it! Leopards don't change their spots. ETA: Oh, and it's the lounge. Lounge is different. As in real life, conversations may take various directions.
  23. Wondering what everyone is paying. I've just been quoted ?26 pcm (rounding up) by Plusnet for unlimited fibre broadband and line rental, on an 18 month contract. That's quite a bit cheaper than I'm paying at the moment (?34 pcm) but also quite a lot more than if I was a new Plusnet customer, especially if I went via Top Cashback who have ?80p cashback on Plusnet, which over the 18 months would bring the monthly cost down to around ?20pcm, if my maths is correct. It's a hard call, because I'm wary about changing from Plusnet for several reasons, partly in case anything goes wrong with the switch and I'm left without broadband for a while, and partly because Plusnet do have good customer service, in my experience. ETA: I did do some negotiating last time, but I'm not sure I've got the energy to go through all that again ....

You've never actually divulged your real identity to anybody on here, although on various occasions you could have done? :)) The drinks were open to anybody, you didn't need to be invited. Unless we are talking about some more selective forum drinks than the ones which were posted up on here and changed pubs from month to month, and which I used to occasionally go to? In which case, I was never invited to the ones for the select few :))
