  1. The travel sickness wrist bands worked well for me (on boats) and for my daughter when she was little, but you do need to make sure they are positioned correctly. My granddaughters use travel sickness tablets in the car. They work for them. You need to make sure the children take them at the recommended time long enough before you start travelling, and obviously at the recommended dose for their age. Just in case, have sick bags ready - plastic carriers will do - and if possible somebody (depending on the age of the child) ready to hold the bag. If you're on a motorway or certain other roads, it may be impossible to stop. Have a supply of wipes and clean clothes ready, just in case, and plain water (also to sip if necessary). If they've got long hair, tie it back before the journey starts so they're not sick on it :)) Distract their attention with singing along, games etc, if you can bear it :)) And yes, as above, don't use loads of side streets or bendy roads, if at all possible. I'm rarely carsick but got very queasy on a very long bendy road abroad with a quite fast driver. As regards moving the thread, I think you have to ask admin to do that.
  2. With the help of a great many people all giving their time for free, http://www.thegooseisout.com made well over ?2500 on Friday at a benefit concert, also at The Ivy House. This money is being used for a very clear cause, to help provide refugees arriving in Calais and Lesvos with vital things like shelters and heaters. http://www.helprefugees.org.uk/ Please can you tell us exactly what the money from your comedy benefit will be used for? For example, how will it help to protect "our children's trees"? And I believe you also had a previous benefit - how was that money used? This question has been asked of you before, and as far as I can see has not been answered. Forgive me if it has, and I've missed it. ETA: I see that your publicity material still refers to the non-existent "Southwark Woods" which you have invented. ETA: I am not in any way intending to denigrate your performance, which I am sure will be excellent. It is what the money will be used for that concerns me.

You shouldn't be bloody jumping lights at all, however you try to rationalise it to yourself and others. And if saying that means I am "pompous and self important", well I have two words to say in response to that. One begins with F, and the other begins with Y.

Really glad you reported him to the police. This is completely off topic (sorry admin) but it's quite funny in a sort of way. I campaigned with Hope Not Hate in the Barking and Dagenham election in 2010, and I have a bright red tee shirt which says on the front "Hope 51, BNP 0" (referring to the number of seats they didn't win). I wore it last Autumn and thought I was getting some very strange looks. When I got home, I realised that all the text apart from the "BNP" - in very large letters - was obscured by a jacket I was wearing :)) To all those who saw it in Lordship Lane and North Cross Road - SORRY!!! :))

    Barry House

Maybe you might have more luck if your subject heading was a bit more specific? eg "Did You Donate a Coat to Barry House on Saturday?" Hope you find the owner, and well done for your honesty.

That's awful :( However the vile driver may not have lived there, I suppose. Unfortunately there are probably a few people like that everywhere :( however I can completely understand why you wouldn't want to move there.
  7. There was a recent programme on channel 5 where a number of alcoholics told their stories. Did anybody else see it? I thought it was very moving and totally inspiring in some cases. They included a GP, a burglar and a cellist. On the other hand it did make me think maybe I'm not so bad after all - one of them used to drink two bottles of wine before going to work! How can your body handle that?
  8. If you've got a VHS of Zefirelli's over the top movie of La Traviata (early eighties), I'll buy it off you. Long shot I know. I binned mine because I couldn't watch the tragic ending, and now - being made of sterner stuff - find it's not available on DVD for less than around fifty quid :(

They cycle along the pavement, don't they? On a not very obvious part of the pavement supposedly reserved for cyclists. I know somebody who nearly got knocked down by one. Buses and cars use the road. Correct me if I'm wrong and have confused Rye Lane with somewhere else. ETA: But who knows why Alice wants to ban them, may be for totally different reasons as she didn't say ....

I was one of at least two people in the road who originally requested this hangar, two years ago. I do not have a bike yet because my house is the same size as yours and it would be extremely inconvenient to store it in there, which is why I've never bought one before. Once the hangar is in place, I will be getting a bike. I will need L plates :))
  11. I got so fed up with Virgin bombarding me with glossy advertising material that I got taken off their mailing list (much to my surprise, it worked!) It's a bit blooming bad if they're bigging themselves up so much in this area and then can't even provide a decent service.

As you well know, Fox, residents were consulted - presumably including you! - and it is being placed at the end of the road where nothing will look out onto it apart from a wall. ETA: But yes I would be happy to have it outside my house if it was that or not have the hangar at all.
  13. Did they get the attacker?? Poor postie, they have enough trouble with dog bites :(
  14. You're lucky, to the best of my knowledge all we have in Ulverscroft Road so far is a barrier which has been leaning against a wall for ages with a scrappy bit of paper on saying the space is reserved for a bike hangar. Which is rather frustrating when I've been waiting for it for around two years now and getting older and older :))

But if you drink nothing all week and then binge drink at weekends you're not alcohol dependent? And if you're not drinking because you're a recovering alcoholic, or whatever the term is, you're not alcohol dependent? That seems crazy to me. I was once told it was about physiological (?) dependency and that if you can have days without drinking, it means you're not dependent. Is that wrong? I've just googled it: https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/check-the-facts/health-effects-of-alcohol/mental-health/alcohol-dependence Hmm. Maybe I should take advantage of their offer to "assess your drinking with our free tool" :)) Or maybe not :)) ETA: I did the assessment. It said I should "think about cutting down." OK, I'll think about it. Right, I've thought.

Please don't trouble yourself to knock for me, KK, you may get a mouthful of irrational rage on the doorstep :)) And from painful experience, people don't take kindly to having the Watersons sung on trains. Somebody once came right the length of a tube carriage in order to ask me to stop :))
  18. Seabag Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What time do you 'come to' Sue ? > Hmmm, well, I don't usually set the alarm before 9am, put it that way :)) I've just been reminded of something that caused me possibly irrational rage at the time .... For several years I've had this regular saver thing at the bank using monthly direct debit. At the end of each year it comes to a close, I get the interest, then I set up another one for the next year. Nae problem. THIS year, they said the rules had changed, and they had to ask "a few questions" before I could set up another saver, then they asked me LOADS of questions about my income and expenditure, including stuff like how much a month I spend on groceries :)) FFS! You're my bank, you can see what's going into and coming out of my account, and I'm not asking for a loan, I'm GIVING YOU MONEY EACH MONTH !!!!! And IF I DON'T GIVE YOU THE MONEY ONE MONTH YOU WILL CLOSE DOWN THE SAVINGS ACCOUNT AND NOT GIVE ME ANY INTEREST! SO YOU'RE HARDLY LIKELY TO LOSE MONEY IF I DON'T PAY UP!!! Afraid I got quite worked up as these questions kept coming. Poor woman at the other end seemed quite embarrassed, and who can blame her. I just plucked a figure out of the air for my grocery expenditure. GRRRRRRRRR GRRRRRRRR GRRRRRRR Actually - that's quite rational rage, isn't it?
  19. You'll still be able to drink a pint. If you have a mop :))

I've only had a couple of days without a drink since Christmas :( I'm currently using up the ginger wine and will then be forced to start on the sherry :)) though actually quite a lot of the sherry went into a trifle. That doesn't count, does it?! Why did your GP say you were alcohol dependent? Because of the amount you drank? Because I'm not sure that's an adequate criterion? ETA: I have given up alcohol altogether for months at a time in the past, but I'm really not sure I could do it now, so does that make me alcohol dependent?

  24. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Religion is one thing, but you can't surely > believe that on judgement day we're all going to > reenact the Thriller video and climb out of our > graves. Otta, I do think you may inadvertently cause offence, because some branches (probably the wrong word) of Christianity do believe exactly that. My ex once invited some Jehovah's Witnesses (I think it was) in for a cup of tea and asked them where all the people who had died were physically going to stand on Judgment Day, because there wouldn't be enough space for them all. They never called again.
  25. Please forgive me if I'm wrong, because I really don't have time to check back, but I thought the Friends of One Tree Hill were in favour of the council's plans. Have I confused this with something else?
