We are looking for an mp3 player to play tracks at gigs instead of carting round a CD player and compilation CDs (still in the twentieth century or before, we are) Don't particularly use itunes etc, most of the tracks would probably come from existing CDs, memory sticks etc.. Reviews I've seen mainly seem to be for ipods and other Apple products. Can anybody point me in the direction of something decent other than Apple? Needs to be quite big capacity preferably. The only five star reviewed one I can see on Amazon (yes, I know, and they don't even give Nectar points any more) is ?170 :( Which as just about every device I possess is breaking down at the moment, I'd rather not spend :))

Excellent! It probably was a blackcap, then! Sadly on the same day though, there appeared a large amount of what look like pigeon feathers in the garden - anybody seen any birds of prey around? Seems maybe more likely than a cat?? I've only seen one in my garden once, and that was a few years back now. May have been a youngish pigeon as most of the feathers are small, white and fluffy, with a few larger pigeon-ish ones. Or would a bird of prey have just flown off with the whole pigeon, so there wouldn't be any feathers left? Sad topic, sorry :(

Yes, I thought she must have seen a Great Tit or a Coal Tit, but she looked at photos on a bird ID app she has and says it didn't look like either of those and deffo had no bib.... Also very distinctive format (?) of cap.

My sister thinks she saw a Blackcap in my garden this morning. I thought she must mean a Great Tit, which appear quite often, but she says it deffo wasn't. Anybody else seen one locally? I'm jealous :)

Crikey that was quick! Thanks, I'll give them a ring on Monday (unless they're open tomorrow, will try in the morning). Thanks again! -
The lovely and excellent printer we used to use has gone AWOL. We need for Friday 30 January (yes very short notice but we couldn't finalise the content until now for various reasons) 5000 (not all for Friday obv!) A5 flyers printed double sided black and white (or colour if the same price) on 300 gsm card (silk finish). The artwork is printer-ready. I've been googling, but my eyes and brain are hurting now and my broadband connection is still crap so it's taking a long time. Can anybody recommend anybody they have used who combines good quality with reasonable price and excellent service? (no this is not another Franco Manca thread :)) ) We'd be very grateful.

Wrong type of weeds in brown bin - now blacklisted

Yes, I think they do ask that you don't put soil in the bin. I'm always worried if I have a bit of compost I can't detach from stuff I'm putting in the bin. -

And if you don't have your phone on you, ask the nearest shop (or person - other than the suspected thieves, obv) to dial 999 ...... -

fireworks on peckham rye last night
Sue replied to terrifictor100's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They surely would not film fireworks at 1am? Must be all sorts of by-laws or whatever preventing noise in a public place at that sort of time? -
Tried that in December, got a PAC (?) code after they only offered to reduce my monthly payment by 50p !!! And I'm concerned at customer service if I go elsewhere, otherwise I would. Fox, I'm sure it's my stupidity but I have no idea what you're talking about re WAN type. I've never done a hard reset on my router, and nothing has changed since the router was installed. I don't want to do anything which might make things worse. I'm going to try some other channels first.

Yes, it was 1am :( -
Thanks Kristen, but it's definitely a problem at the router end, as when the connection goes down the wireless and internet lights start flashing, and my sister (who is staying) has a problem as well. It's even worse this morning although I changed the channel to the one which seemed to have the least interference from nearby. Can anybody tell me if this could be caused by a fault in the router? Also, would any provider be exactly the same? I'm almost at the point where I'm going to have to phone Plusnet. I'm out of contract since December and wonder whether they may be persuaded to send me a new router anyway .....

A while back edhistory posted a map on here of where the bombs fell. My partner's family were Sally Army :) Not round here though. The SA did/still do a lot of good practical work in helping people.

That's good news, but I hope they will be keeping the community garden for medicinal plants at the front of the existing hospital, which a lot of local people have put a lot of hard work into.

Finally got round to properly looking at this. Thanks again to everybody who helped so far. Checked all connections, went through various physical checks and changes. Downloaded WiFi Analyzer (thanks nashoi that was very helpful), found several routers on the same channel as mine and sometimes with a stronger signal, particularly in parts of the house away from my router. Changed the channel to one which seemed to have the least interference. It seems to have had a bit of an effect, but things are still very slow and still sometimes cutting out completely. Will see what it's like tomorrow when it's settled down ......

Oh dear, what a pain, thanks Admin. I thought it might be MelonSmasher looking for a bit more of a challenge than posting "?15?" everywhere .... :)

If you like singing, there are a number of choirs in the area. Also Nyge and I run a Singaround once a month at The Old Nun's Head :) http://thegooseisout.com/singarounds-at-the-old-nuns-head/ It's always very friendly, with a mix of people who have been before and people who haven't, and you'd soon get to know people. There's all ages from eighteen (sometimes younger) to over sixty (that's me :)) ) Although we're basically a folk club at heart, anybody can sing anything at the Singaround (and they do!) - and you don't have to sing, you can just come and listen if you want. It's on a Sunday night, starts at 7.30pm and it's free entry with a voluntary donation at the interval.

I thought "my" sparrows had gone, but a little flock of them has come back over the last couple of days :)
