Attempted Credit Card Fraud 'The Rye' Pub

bigtony2 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >turns out that someone in The Rye tried to > use my details between 6:30 \ 8am this morning to > the tune of ?150. > xxxxx Then the pub would have the details on their card machine records, surely, and would see that something was wrong if there was a transaction going through at that time? -

Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible

Hickory Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Seriously. This. > http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope > rty-29180898.html xxxxxx A quite small three bed terrace in Ulverscroft Road which until very recently was two flats owned by a housing association was thoroughly ripped out and poncified recently and put on the market for ?825k. Yes, that's ?825k. It's been sold, but I have no idea whether the developers got their asking price. "Previously listed for sale on 19th Jan 2014 for ?825,000 3 bedroom terraced house Property history of 30 Ulverscroft Road, London SE22 9HG Vincent Chandler is delighted to offer to the market this three bedroomed and highly attractive house in the heart of East Dulwich. Having recently been refurbished to an extremely high standard, this Victorian property has a pleasant blend of ... blah blah blah." http://www.zoopla.co.uk/property/30-ulverscroft-road/london/se22-9hg/21181449 ETA: Oh, and they ripped out all the garden and plants and put in some hard landscaping stuff. That'll be good for wildlife and prevention of flooding then. -
North Cross Road Market (where's it gone?)

the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yes but sue normally about the sanest person on > here thinks it's not about profit. xxxxxx Thanks for considering me sane - most people don't :)) I never said that the market was not about profit - obviously it is. Stallholders are hardly there to provide a social service. I said the wind was so bad on Saturday that it would have been unsafe to put up stalls. I'm not quite sure what Jacqui5254 means ..... is everybody living in ED under some obligation to buy from the stalls in North Cross Road, even if the weather is terrible and even if they are skint after Christmas? Because it is an important part of some stallholders' livelihoods? We had a http://www.thegooseisout.com gig at The Old Nun's Head on Friday night. The music was fantastic, as was the audience, but we had fewer people down than we would normally have expected. The weather was absolutely foul. We had put a lot of effort into the night, as did the headlining duo, one of whom had travelled up from Plymouth (took him seven hours due to a motorway accident) and the other had travelled down from Newcastle. But we didn't blame people at all for not coming out. Why should they? Not sure I would have done if I hadn't had to :)) You take the rough with the smooth, and so it is with market stallholders, surely? -

the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I wonder which stall holder is there not to make a > profit. xxxxxxx But this thread is not about why stall holders are not usually there (obviously to make a profit) but specifically about why they were not there on Saturday ...... Or have I missed the point? -

(Southerden I mean, not Peckham :) ) Congrats from me too.

Potentially very dangerous in the wind, as KK said. Quite apart from the goods blowing away or the stall blowing over, if the stall covering blew off, or blew away whilst it was being secured, it could for example blow onto a car and cause an accident. -
We've got a gig tonight, so will be Upstairs at The Old Nun's Head, with hopefully a lovely crowd of people who want to spend Valentine's Day night (as it were) listening to the very excellent James Findlay and Alex Cumming (shameless plug). If you're by yourself, let us know and we'll introduce you to people. If you fancy joining us (door 7.45pm) details are here http://thegooseisout.com/james-findlay/ ETA: But I'm rather hungover from too many pints of Runner at last night's shanty evening at The Ivy House :(

Kings is poor xxxxx What a ridiculous generalisation! Are you saying that every department, ward and person in Guys is better than the equivalent at King's? I had absolutely fantastic treatment and care at King's A&E, in fact I meant to write and thank them at the time, but to my shame I didn't. -

But I'd be willing to bet that the forum of which you speak does not consist of members whose main if only thing in common (grammar?) is that they live in roughly the same geographical location - am I right? And I bet it's very heavily moderated so that trolls and unpleasant people are kicked off it at the first sign of not being good-humoured and well-mannered? This forum, because of its nature, is bound to have members with a wide cross-section of views and personalities, and therefore disputes are bound to arise. I think it generally has a good balance - really vile people are banned, but otherwise posters are able to state their opinions freely on the whole. I think that's a healthy thing. It would be worrying if they couldn't.

Leaflet came through my letterbox today for a restaurant in Bellevue Road, Wandsworth Common. There is a picture on it entitled "Fillet of beef cooked live at your table in a fire-heated clay pot." They must have either very small cows or very large clay pots :)) Or else they slice the fillet off bit by bit whilst the cow moos loudly and bleeds all over the floor .....

Article about closure of Hooper's Bar and its future
Sue replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
jimmyraj Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I am always sad to see pubs be converted into > houses, but I have to agree with the owner that I > can't see someone making a viable run of it, so in > this instance would support it being turned to > residential. xxxxxxx Sadly I agree. I think it was not in a good location, and also it didn't really work having music there because of the layout of the bar. People listening to music or whatever were crammed either at one end of the pub or the other, with the bar in between. If there had been a larger separate room than the little snug bar, that could have worked maybe. It also meant it wasn't possible to have ticketed gigs there without closing the whole pub to everybody else, which wouldn't have been a viable option. The Ivy House is also off the beaten track, but is able to have gigs or other events there whilst people not going to them can still eat and drink in the other rooms. I think another problem with Hooper's Bar was that although there were a few attempts at having food there, the food was never very good. -
So dimples, do you think we should just let the sort of comments made by some of the people on here pass without, er, comment? Thus implying that we agree with them?

Oxford Street isn't great, I grant you, but it's paradise compared to Bromley. Anyway, the bus ride up to Oxford Street is quite pleasant. Or you can get the Bakerloo line from the Elephant straight to Oxford Circus. Or train to London Bridge then Jubilee Line to Bond Street. And surely you don't want "major retailers" in this area. Do you? A John Lewis on Lordship Lane? It was places like the ED Warehouse that made (past tense deliberate) it nice to live round here. So, what's going to replace the Warehouse? Anyone know? Let me guess. Flats.

If I were you, I'd just ignore the EDF's pitchfork-wielding yokels. They just don?t want to have to imagine their cosy, bucolic domain could potentially be disrupted by an icy blast of urban reality - especially when they?re having to fork out so much money to live in this little corner of God?s earthly paradise". I really can't understand why either of you are posting on here, since you both seem to have such a low opinion of other forum members.
