The larger St Christopher's Hospice shop on Lordship Lane by the Palmerston takes furniture, have you tried there? Also there's a charity shop in Streatham Hill (I think it's an Oxfam shop) which takes furniture. No idea if either of them would collect, though.

  3. So, did anybody posting on here actually go to the meeting at the surgery to discuss patients' discontent?

Indian restaurants and estate agents - yes, they appear to dominate Lordship Lane. Charity shops? No. And I know which I'd rather have another of, and it isn't Indian restaurants (or indeed restaurants at all) - or estate agents ..... Which "whole host of shops" did you have in mind, Louisa, that you'd rather see than a charity shop? Waitrose? M&S? Some other chain to make Lordship Lane a clone of every other bloody high street in the land?

Just wait and see. xxxxxx Wait and see - what? You seem to be hoping that the new charity shop is a dismal failure, just so that you can be proved right.

As was pointed out, there are only so many times you can question those (apparently) inaccurate claims when you never get an answer to the questions .... which aren't relevant to a thread about its food anyway.

Because I've had nothing but excellent service from the actual GPs at DMC, apart from a locum many years ago, who I have never seen there since.

  10. I can't easily look for it because I am using my phone but there is a thread about Give and Take from when it opened. A proportion of its profit goes to charity but by no means all. I don't remember the details.

The large hospice shop, for example, always seems to have a room full of stock at the back waiting to be put out. I used to donate things to Trinity Hospice (on Clapham Common) to sell at their charity shops, and at the hospice itself they always had an overflowing room full of stock which their shops didn't have room for. My gut feeling is that there will be plenty of stock for all the charity shops including the new one. There's certainly generally loads of stuff being given away free on this forum. In a relatively prosperous area, people give away things they've tired of in order to replace them with something newer.
  12. Thanks Foxy :)
  13. I don't consider Give and Take a charity shop. It's vastly more expensive than "normal" charity shops, and not all the money taken goes to charity.
  14. Oh great, that's good. Where is their recycling thing situated in the shop? At the front?

But that > clearly doesn't bother you. xxxxxx I think it's highly unlikely that existing charity shops' trade would suffer. I buy clothes, books and bric a brac at the existing charity shops, but often there is nothing there I want. If there were more charity shops, then I'd be more likely to buy more because there would be a wider selection. It's not as if it's another butcher opening when there are already x butchers in the area. It's completely different.
  16. edcam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If there's a petition I'll sign it. So far as I know, there's: The Mind shop Two St Christopher hospice shops, one extremely small. and that's it. Apart from a tiny one up past the Plough.
  17. Oh thanks. Anyone know of one in the stretch between the old police station and Goose Green?
  18. Admin, please move if in wrong section, not sure where to put it. Is there anywhere in ED other than the big Sainsbury's which has a container for recycling batteries? I'm sure there was a thread on this before, but I can't find it. Thanks.
  19. Oh dear :( Bit like "Give and Take" down by the EDT, then? Except that more of the money actually goes to the charity? That's disappointing.
  20. The giveaway that it was all made up was surely the line "Her ultimate goal is to seduce a lecturer." Unless things have very drastically changed, I hardly think it could be that difficult :))
  21. I just thank God I've retired. Small dos with just your immediate team - fine. Usually you get on with them, else you would probably have changed jobs. Large dos with people you would rather gnaw your own limbs off than have to make small talk to - excruciating, especially if they're hard to get out of and especially if you end up sitting next to one of said people.
  22. Just found out yesterday whilst on a Turkish Delight mission that Persepolis (the Persian/Iranian food shop in Peckham just past Lidl) has got a new tiny cafe which sells delicious looking fresh salads.
  23. What everyone else said. I put down Stopgap in my living room floorboards last year, and it has made a noticeable difference. I too used brown, which looks better against my white floorboards as it just looks like the gaps. But you can get small tester packs - if you order one colour, they send you a bit of the other colour as well. The only problem I've found with it is that it sometimes tends to rise up and you have to push it back down, but it's not a huge issue. Agree with rugs - I put large rugs down in my living room in the Winter. An electric throw is brilliant. I can sit in my living room under mine with the radiator turned off, and still be really toasty. Agree, only heat the room you're in (obviously only if you're going to be in it for longish lengths of time). It's a bit of a pain remembering to turn the rads up and down when you move rooms, but hey think of the money you're saving. I have a wireless thing which controls the boiler, and I take that into the room I'm in as well. Afraid I wear many layers of clothing around the house in the winter. Wearing a woolly hat really makes a difference as your head loses a lot of heat. You just have to try and remember to remove it when answering the door - though I don't bother any more. Unless I'm wearing two, when I remove the top one to minimise the eccentric old woman appearance :)) A woolly scarf also helps. And thick socks. And woolly slippers. And thermal tights or leggings :)
  24. I couldn't go either. Hope somebody did and is able to report back!

It's the Crystal Palace Road one. Or has Chadwick Road been bad too?
