  1. nav8art Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue Re the long walk home surely you have a > subsidised travel card bless xxxxxx My post wasn't referring to myself. Why do you assume that everybody who doesn't have much money has a subsidised travel card? I believe you only get one if you are over 60 or claiming disability benefit. And yes, I'd also like to know what the "bless" signifies.
  2. I think you need to be in pain to be seen by an emergency dental care clinic. There are several NHS dentists around ED, LondonLogCo, I'm sure any of them would fit you in as a priority case if you have cracked a tooth. Surely more convenient than trekking up to Guys.

You made an assumption about their specific country of origin which was apparently based on - well, what? Do tell us. the fact that they were "not white or English"? That leaves quite a lot of other possibilities..... Good post, Top Banana. Thecaptain, you have totally missed the point. Nobody is saying that these people have not (possibly) committed a crime. And by labelling people "tree hugging liberals" it is clear that you have the same stereotyping mindset as susierose. And so it goes on .... and on .....

And the means of getting to Peckham without having a long walk back with their heavy weekly shop. Yeh. You've offended me, anyway, don't know about "the left".
  5. civilservant Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > is s/he still there? 6. susierose Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- he looks either Romanian or Kosovan. xxxxxx FFS !!!! I despair sometimes. And so the stereotyping and prejudice continues.
  7. susierose Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I often see different vans driving up and down with the same > kosovan people in and don't speak much English as > i have confronted them for trying to take > something from my front garden. xxxxxxx Just wondering how you know they're Kosovan? Did you ask them?
  8. Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Apart from the contact > details of councillors who don't represent me > there was precious little 'information' in the > leaflet. xxxxxx I think that's a bit unfair. I was interested to see that apparently ED residents (who? I don't recall being asked) want the Dulwich Hospital site to become either a primary school or housing for oldies, and that the Lib Dems want the old police building opposite the Actress to become the ED police station so that the police don't have to return to Camberwell for their breaks :)
  9. Thanks Kiera. What area do you live in, as I haven't received an invitation to a drop-in session? Not that I was intending to go to one as I don't have any questions :)
  10. the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yes but how much am things? xxxxxx If the posts are genuine, it's unkind to mock. If they aren't, why encourage him/her?
  11. Kitie76 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Also, thing are way too expensive.. xxxxxx I bought a cake there on Saturday to take to a celebration. It was ?7 and way way nicer than anything I could have bought in a supermarket. Lemon and poppy seed, yummy icing, and nicely presented in a box. I thought it was a bargain.
  12. Worker Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- and ideally as someone else pointed out establish eye contact. xxxxxx Unfortunately some people see establishing eye contact as a form of aggression :( "Who are you looking at?" etc etc Who may possibly also be the sort of people likely to not stop at a crossing for pedestrians (though I've no evidence whatsoever to back that up).
  13. That's a bit harsh, giggirl :(
  14. A 343 bus (out of service) going at speed went straight through a red light on a crossing in Church Street, Camberwell, as we were about to cross on Friday night. GRRRR.
  15. Ah, I still keep forgetting we don't actually have proper public services any more ... thanks, Tories.
  16. Fair enough then, somebody at DMC was totally incompetent and I understand your fury :) I would have been annoyed too.

Where is the money coming from otherwise if not from us? (Lights blue touchpaper and stands well back ..... :) )
  18. the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Maybe the people who didn't think I was thick > are > > now revising their opinion :) > > SHORT SIGHTED? :-) xxxxx Eh? I'm definitely short sighted :) I just hadn't clocked that it was about sewers, though as they said my water supply wouldn't be affected by the work I suppose that should have given me a clue :)
  19. I am sure I had two letters - I threw away the first one because it said there would be a later one. The one I kept is dated 1 October. The reference number is CAP 5/ BB 966778 It was headed "Forthcoming work in Nunhead/East Dulwich", so I can't imagine anybody got a different one, though possibly the reference numbers may have been different in different subsections of the overall area. I tried to attach a scan of the letter here but the file is too big and life's just too short to mess about reducing its size. If you didn't get the second letter, which was very full and informative, you can phone them on 07809 530674 quoting the reference number above, between 8am and 5pm. ETA: It included a paragraph headed "Drop-in session" and the sentence "We will write to invite you to this nearer the time." As it also mentions several sessions, it's possible they are holding different ones in different parts of the area and that may be the reason for the invitations going out later.
  20. Maybe the people who didn't think I was thick are now revising their opinion :)
  21. the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It wont stop leaks its Drains they are fixing. All water pipes are the same to me :)
  22. taper Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Better use, better lighting and > people being aware of the risks are the way > forward, rather than closing it down for half the > day. xxxxxxxx I see your points, although personally there's no way I would walk through an area like that at night, however well lit. Being "aware of the risks" isn't much help if one of the risks happens, is it? And "closing it down for half the day" is a bit of an exaggeration, surely? Parks are normally open until dusk, which varies in time for month to month. ETA: I find it slightly irritating - in the Winter particularly when it closes early - when I have to walk the long way round to DHFC (next to Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill) rather than being able to cut through the park. But I'd rather have to walk a bit further than risk being attacked :( Obviously in an ideal world this wouldn't be an issue, but sadly in London it is. It doesn't stop me doing what I want - just makes me a bit more careful about how I do it. ETA: In case of any doubt, I am in no way blaming the person who was attacked in Warwick Gardens, and I hope they catch the bastard who did it soon. And there are several issues involved here - locking up parks at night is just one of them.
  23. In fairness, I know there have been a few disgruntled DMC patients venting on this forum, but I have been quite happy with them. Surely it's not DMC's fault if you're out of their catchment area, Dee Woffaz??
  24. taper Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Shutting the park at night would be very > unpopular. Southwark tried to do so some years > ago and there was a huge protest against. > xxxxxxx Do you know why there was a protest? It's common practice to shut parks at night, surely, for obvious reasons - to prevent the kind of incident which sadly has just happened. When the park next to Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill was not locked at night as it should have been (though I don't think this is a council-run park), there was an incident there as well. Can't remember exactly what, I think it was a mugging. After which they were a bit more conscientious about making sure it was locked.
  25. But is there only one drop-in session? The letter I got said "...we would like to invite you to attend one of our informal 'drop-in' sessions in the area". And "We will write to invite you to this nearer the time". It also gave a telephone number to call for any questions in the meantime, with a reference number, and said "If you would like to know more about our work, please visit our website at http://www.thameswater.co.uk/ " It also said our water supply would not be affected by this work. The letter was signed by a named person, with his phone number at the top. I don't have anything to do with Thames Water, but I really don't see how they could have done anything more at all to be more helpful to residents about this. And if it's going to help stop the huge number of leaks we constantly seem to be getting, with water running down our roads, then as far as I can see it's all good :) ETA: Thanks to the forum members who don't think I'm thick :)
