But the money he got was surely nothing to do with the intrinsic value of the gold the medal contained , but surely everything to do with the historic value of the medal .......

Undisputedtruth Wrote: Well it seems Nando's portions are > getting more smaller and more expensive each > year. > xxxxxxxx That's interesting you should say that - I haven't eaten at Nando's much, but last time the portions seemed to be so tiny it was scarcely a meal at all. I thought it was just me being greedy :)

Does it really matter? The winners are hardly likely to take them to the pawn shop or sell them to be melted down, are they? :) It's the achievement that they symbolise that's important, surely?

Gold is a very soft metal though, isn't it? Probably not suitable to make a solid gold medal from, quite apart from the cost :) That's why it's mixed with other metals to make gold jewellery of various carats, I thought?

Thanks for your very thorough research, Burbage, I'll return to hoping I win the lottery (well I did win a tenner recently) :)

Application for extended late licence at the Great Exhibition
Sue replied to BigED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That's a very good idea - I didn't know the council did that. I guess they want to make sure the formal hearing doesn't go on for hours and hours so they get as much of the discussion done as possible beforehand? -
Bic Basher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You'll probably end up buying the catalogues and > then the goods if you're lucky to get any > customers and not making a profit. xxxxxx It was presented as just posting the catalogues through letter boxes, but I completely agree with all Fox says.

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's a Scam.... > > xxxxxxxx I'm sure it is, and that's why I posted here rather than filling in their form, and why I can't understand why I could find nothing about the scam online. I found a website along the lines of "Ten scam money-making schemes", and the catalogue thing wasn't included, let alone this particular site. To be fair, Foxy, it says ?50 - ?500 a week - I completely agree with you that ?500 is ridiculous, as you'd have to be working about 24/7 to make that sort of cash. I liked their age limits of 18 - 80, as well :) I guess anybody doing a google search will now come up with this thread .....

I had a flyer through my door recently, headed "Need Extra Cash?" and basically advertising work delivering/collecting "small catalogues". I googled the company but am none the wiser, though there seem to be several similar companies around. Their website consists solely of the (limited) information on the flyer and a form to submit personal information. It all seems a bit iffy to me, though if it was that iffy I'd have thought something would have come up on the google search. I wondered whether anybody had had any experience of them (I could do with extra cash, hence the interest!) I must admit I did warm a bit to a company whose flyer says "Lose weight naturally by walking" :)

Goodliz, if it happens again, I've found the Orange helpline very useful - I think it's 150 from your phone (or there's a number you can call from another phone, which is on the Orange website). Also there's an Orange shop in Streatham whose staff were very helpful when I had a problem with my new phone.

Although we have a > regular foxy visitor he/she has not managed to > raid the bin as it is well barricaded. > > Just feel that choosing a small bin for aesthetic > reasons is being penalised! xxxxxxx Would it be possible to put the small brown bin on top of one of your larger containers so that it's more clearly visible, if that is the issue? I have a small brown bin as well, plus two of the "old" blue containers for paper etc recycling. I have a recess for my bins built into my garden wall, and I have my (smaller) green wheelie at the back, the blue containers in front of it, and the small brown bin on top of them. I haven't recently had a problem with the brown bin not being emptied, though it does tend to get flung over my plants when it has been emptied .....

Administrator Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue, I will not share them as I have better things > to do than drag up your old issues. Let it lie. xxxxxxx It was not me who dragged this all up again. I was trying to let it lie and forget all about it due to the stress it was causing me, until the other person suddenly out of the blue made unfounded accusations about me, and now you seem to be doing the same, except you will not say what they are. If somebody else starts things up again, you surely cannot expect me to just sit back and let these unfounded accusations stay on a public forum without responding to them. I would have thought impartiality was a basic criterion for a forum administrator. You might want to look at Ellie78's posts on the Ask Admin thread on 17 November in reference to this same poster, which taken together with your recent comments about me would seem to suggest otherwise.
-
I think anybody who read the posts in question and their context would be able to make their own assessment of the situation. As would anybody who has "lots of experiences" with me. Perhaps you'd care to share what these are.

I can assure you that it is not cannabis. The leaves are completely different, they do not smell of cannabis when crushed, and I do not grow cannabis, in a pot or otherwise.

Administrator Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > They're looked at and we'll assist the authorities > should they request our help. xxxxx So what are the criteria for banning somebody from the forum, if making persistently false and defamatory posts is not included? I imagine the authorities would accept screenshots as proof of libellous statements (where the person being accused can prove the libel, of course), so it is not whether the forum would assist the authorities that concerns me. What does concern me is that individuals seem to be able to make repeated inflammatory and defamatory statements whilst providing no back-up evidence whatsoever, and still continue to be able to post on here with impunity. Other individuals are banned, in some cases repeatedly, yet their forum behaviour does not appear to be any worse than those who are not banned. ETA: I am not talking about "spats" between posters, which are fairly frequent on the forum. I am talking about very serious and unfounded accusations being publicly made by one poster about another.

Is there an actual cherry tree nearby though, as if not it would be a bit like calling it Sea View :)

The Amazon Locker @ the Co-operative, Lordship Lane

All good points, so obviously this service is very useful if you work - and if you do, you can probably also afford the delivery charges. Good idea, whoever thought of it :) -

What's that about? xxxxxxxx I wonder whether they've got the bin equivalent of GP locums on at the moment. They arrived later than usual this morning and made more of a mess than usual. The mess wasn't enough to complain to the council about, just mildly annoying when I had to spend time clearing it up on my way out. ETA: RosieH and The-e-Dealer, LOL.

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The guy I spoke to quoted that Security would not > be nessecary as they were not on the main drag. > xxxxxxxx That's weird, because The Actress sometimes has a bouncer on (I think) Friday and Saturday nights, and they aren't on the main drag either. -
Oh dear. Don't know where to start with addressing that lot, so I'm not even going to try. Just about every sentence could have a whole article written in response. :(

I'm with Orange, no problems at all this morning. I'm on Ulverscroft Road so that not far from you. Nor have I had problems over the last few months, to the best of my knowledge. Could it be your handset? Have you tried contacting Orange about it?

All sounds good :)
