FREE Cycling Lessons - All abilities from beginners to London commuting
Sue replied to Strawberryfields's topic in The Lounge
Just wanted to give Gerry a plug. I hadn't cycled for ten years, and even then it was down quiet country lanes wobbling all over the place. I had two one-to-one lessons from Gerry recently, starting very gently on a tennis court (without the net!), then round Dulwich Park, then on the road. When I started off I was really nervous, but he has increased my confidence to the point where I am seriously thinking of getting a bike, even though I'm not sure where I would store it! I really never thought I would ever consider cycling in London. Thanks Gerry, you're a star (he's on holiday at the moment, but I'm just posting this while I think of it). ETA: Better not phone his mobile for a couple of weeks, as he's abroad :) -

I don't any more. The most I do is pick it up in their view and put it ostentatiously in a bin. Or occasionally say politely "I think you dropped this?" Except when it was somebody chucking away a lighted cigarette butt which nearly landed unnoticed in my granddaughter's buggy when she was a baby, in which case they got the full force of my feelings.

bloonoo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi Treacle, people go round door to door selling > dusters and cleaning products, they do it for > charity, so it was probably that. xxxxxx They say they're doing it for charity. They aren't. This has been going on for years. There have been threads on the forum about it before. They don't just do it round here - there have been press articles about it. Sorry can't give you links as wouldn't know what to do a search on. ETA: Great you got a registration number, DTLP ETA: Ooops sorry, just seen somebody has revived one of the other forum threads. Blush. -

Because one advantage of a skip is that somebody else comes and takes it away :) -

I took your post as obviously a joke. If it wasn't, then let's just say I agree with Jeremy.

Carelessness or negligence, maybe ....

Application for extended late licence at the Great Exhibition

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > How does one know how many objections ther have > been. ?? > > Fox. xxxxxxx Having written to the licensing people in the past re Hoopers (though that was in support of Hoopers, not objecting), if I recall correctly all the information appears in due course on the licensing committee's webpage, together with all the letters received (with names, addresses and other contact details removed) in each case. -

I also heard that London Bridge was fine yesterday. -

I'd have also felt threatened. But I wouldn't have been so brave as to speak to them. Have you reported this to the police? Because maybe the next person they follow in this way will be actually mugged :( -
wee quinnie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ah NikkiB, I see you're back again, promoting your > moth prevention business again. Oh dear. xxxxxxx This is a different one, isn't it? Different from the one who googled moths and then posted on any threads discussing them, supposedly giving advice but actually trying to sell her sticky traps?

Olympic ceremony tonight and getting to Greenwich tomorrow

aquarius moon Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I thought the 177 was being diverted away from > Greenwich, meaning a long walk to the park from > the nearest stop. The DLR from Lewisham seems like > a better option. xxxxxx We got a 177 to Greenwich yesterday (and back). It was really easy. The 177 is very frequent and starts at Peckham Bus Station. There is a short diversion at Greenwich but the bus still comes out at (and stops in) the town centre so it is no problem. There was quite a lot of traffic at a couple of points, but we still got from Peckham Bus Station to Greenwich town centre in less than half an hour. There is a convenient stop for coming back in Nelson Road (I think it's called Nelson Road). ETA: However a weekday may be different from a Sunday. Also we left around lunchtime, so anybody going for the olympic events would probably have been earlier. Don't bother phoning the TfL helpline, who were useless. First they suggested going by train (erm, but the website says to avoid London Bridge). Then they couldn't say whether the traffic was bad or whether buses were being delayed. -
