  1. Beginning to think I'd rather have pub noise :( Woken up at 7.45am this morning (Saturday) by shouts and squeals from a CPR (I think) garden, which at some points were joined by shouting adults as well. Has now finally finished an hour later, all has gone blissfully quiet, but too late for me, I gave up and got up. Given the strange way sound can carry, I'm now not sure whether there is one house or two involved, or where exactly it/they are. I can't be the only one to be disturbed by this, as it is some distance from my house. If anybody knows which number/s CPR it is, please could they PM me so I can go and have a quiet word, as I'm sure (hope) the people involved don't realise. It/they seem to be on the stretch of CPR between North Cross Road and Whateley Road, ie between the Actress and the Great Exhibition, and on the same side as the Actress. Bit ridiculous to be wishing it was Winter :( Sorry admin, I realise this is somewhat off-topic, but it does seem vaguely relevant as it relates to noise at unsocial (I think) times in the same area as the Great Exhibition.
  2. You can also get a 35 from Camberwell Green straight to Liverpool Street. But I don't know what the traffic might be like. Or you can get the train to London Bridge (or a 40), then there are loads of buses which go from London Bridge to Liverpool Street. The bus stop is just at the beginning of the bridge, on the other side from the station, and is the same stop that the 40 stops at. ETA: I wouldn't be too keen to take small children on the tube in the rush hour, albeit it maybe it wouldn't be too bad during the Summer with people on holiday. But then there's the olympics .....

Chillaxed Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Kids playing in their own garden in summer after 8 > in the morning doesn't strike me as anti-social or > inconsiderate behaviour. xxxxxx I am not talking here of playing - I like to hear kids playing. I am talking prolonged very loud screaming and squealing. Not just five minutes, but prolonged. Maybe I am just over-sensitive, but when I am in my office with the windows shut on a Summer day trying to work, I'm afraid I do find that anti-social. And when it happens before 9am on a Sunday morning I also find that anti-social. ETA: Quite happy to be told it's me who is too sensitive and I should just get ear plugs. But I don't like wearing ear plugs in bed. Also I'm aware that occasionally I can be noisy, as can we all probably, but I do try to be aware of neighbours given that we are in terraced houses which are very close together both in the same terrace and between terraces, because of the relatively small gardens. ETA: To make it absolutely clear (as I have delightful small children as neighbours on both sides), I'm not referring to the screams of small children kicking off, which having two small grandchildren I am only too used to and fully sympathise with the parents, nor am I referring to the squeals of small children playing, I'm referring to screams and squeals of older children.

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sleep in the front so CPR Gardens not a prob. > xxxxxxxxx I used to, but moved to the back because of noise from the street at the time eg somebody who got a lift every morning about 6am and the car hooted each time :( CPR shouting in the garden started at 7.45am this morning. Squealing didn't start till 8.20am, but at least it was short-lived. And no, I'm not an early riser, I'm a late to bed owl. And yes, I like kids. But sadly my garden appears to be midway between two CPR gardens where squealing and shouting kids frequently play. I'm not talking little kids, I'm talking kids old enough to be made aware that they may be disturbing others. I can tell when one lot get home from school (during term) because of the noise, which I can hear with all my windows shut. They were even out there in heavy rain :( Unfortunately I can't identify the houses in either case, or I would go and have a polite word with the parents. Though possibly the parents are making them play in the garden because they can't stand the noise in the house :) OK maybe that was a neurotic rant :) The Great Exhibition is far enough away from me that such late hours probably wouldn't disturb me, but if I lived nearer, much as I like the pub, I must say I wouldn't be too happy.

It suddenly flew into my face when I was reading in bed last night :( After a brief scream (sorry neighbours) I did the glass and cardboard thing (always ready in case of bees and wasps, lol) and took it out of the house and went back to bed. Had just settled down again when a much smaller but very pretty greenish-blue moth started fluttering around the light. Did the glass and cardboard thing again, went back to bed. Blow me if ANOTHER very pretty blah blah moth then did the same thing (deffo not the original one, it couldn't have got back so quickly). After the glass and cardboard yet again, I gave up and went to sleep :)

  8. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Put Simply I like living in the side/back streets > were it is Quiet xxxxxx Bloody hell, Fox, you find it quiet in this road? Do you wear earplugs 24/7 or something? :) Or are you just immune to the dulcet tones of kids squealing and screeching in their CPR gardens at the crack of dawn? NB That was not a neurotic rant.

Unfortunately it's part of human nature. Some/many people slow down to gawp at accidents on the motorway, if there's anything to see.

  12. jane1 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > it looked like a pretty bad accident, the person > on the bike was in a bad way, i hope they are all > right. does any one know, if they are all > right............ xxxxx On another thread here somebody has posted that two people died and two were seriously injured in an accident on Lordship Lane today, unfortunately. I don't know whether that is referring to the same accident, or whether that information is accurate. Very sad news if so. ETA: Sorry, post crossed with the one above.
  13. Yes, I think you're right Maxxi. I love the description "insectile mist", though probably I wouldn't if I was walking through it :) I always thought bamboo wasn't terribly wildlife friendly (apart from for pandas) but sparrows seem to perch on it and eat something off it - aphids? Never actually seen any insects on it, but as it's now as tall as the house maybe all the insects congregate up the top ......

    Bus diversion

There is a thread in the main section about this. There was an accident I think.

I hope word got round (so that they didn't come and eat manky food) and that is why they aren't there.

  18. If you put "moths" into the forum search box, a load of previous threads about moths and various ways of dealing with them will come up. Sadly it's a very common problem round here (and elsewhere). If you look closely at your carpet where it's been eaten you may see the larvae (don't do this if you are squeamish :) )
  19. wildthing Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks for this - I'll have a look. Hi Sue - > three and a half stone !!! xxxxxx I wish you the best of luck! I had a blitz on my weight in the new year, but sadly found when I lost the weight my face just looked more wrinkly :( Another hideous downside of getting old. Hope you find some people to do it with you. Keep us in touch with how it's going!
  20. Hey that's odd, I had one of those in my office last night, I had to turn the light off as it started flapping around inside the shade. I don't know where it's gone now, I sincerely hope it's found its way out of the house. Never seen one before. It must be in its "short emergence period in July" :) Has anybody else noticed that the spider/flying ant season seems to be starting? Isn't it a bit early? :(
