Well said, JennyH.

If you think this is entirely > unfounded please explain why? xxxxxx If you can produce some statistics to show that bringing a needle exchange to an area results in an increase in crime, and that that crime is committed by addicts, then I will be happy to change my view. If you can't, then I think that you are unnecessarily scaremongering.

Oh for goodness sake. What exactly do you know about addiction? ETA: Do you think addicts turn up at a needle exchange, then shoot up in the street and go on a crime rampage round the neighbourhood?
-
We are talking about people who are responsible enough to be using a needle exchange. Not people who are "compelled by their addiction to engage in behaviour that most people wouldn't want in their neighbourhood." Do you actually know anything about addiction? And Forest Hill Road and Peckham are not very near Crystal Palace Road, so it would seem that there may be a need for something more local. ETA: Two close relatives of mine were both in the past heroin addicts, and both held down responsible jobs. Both of them have been off it for years, no thanks to the sort of people whose prejudices are expressed in this thread.

They're in a time warp due to all the drugs :)

Joiner's Arms in Camberwell has one every week, not sure what night it is. Only been once, but it was OK - but obviously any open mic depends on who turns up :)

the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does the Cocktail have a turntable? xxxxxx No, it's a tiny black box :) http://www.cocktailaudio.co.uk/ ETA: I think I can use my turntable to input vinyl directly into the Cocktail, but I haven't actually tried that yet and anyway I may need to edit it with audacity first so I don't get each side as one long track. Or else need to sit over it and physically lift the needle at the end of each bloody track. ETA: My turntable has a USB connection Otta, you can just plug it straight into your laptop or whatever

It's very time-consuming. Some of the vinyl has come out on CDs since or as downloads, but much of it hasn't. But now I'm converting all my CDs as well to MP3s (well, FLACs actually, but that's a different debate) on a Cocktail audio system (basically a hard drive but rather nicer looking than playing stuff in your living room off a laptop) and that's also time-consuming partly because at present you have to put the album art in separately via a memory stick or other file, and partly because it doesn't pick up the info online for every CD immediately (or in some cases ever) so that has to be put in manually, ditto. So I spent several days shovelling CDs in, but still have several boxes of stuff which either I've got to get the album art for or else key in all the info. And as you say, it has - like the rest of my vinyl (and cassettes) been put off to some unspecified day which will likely never come....... Winter??? It is brilliant for the music that is on there, though! And gets regular automatic updates of the software, and gets zillions of internet radio stations. Not that I ever listen to them :)

They are apparently putting in a new computer system next month. No idea whether that will help with all the perceived problems, but it would be great if you were able to book appointments online.

I'm not very technical but I'm sure someone on here will be able to tell you how.

Petition to save East Dulwich Police Station

redjam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Getting back to the subject of the police station > closure itself, can I ask (genuine question) why > people feel they really need a police station in > East Dulwich? xxxx When I had two credit cards stolen from my purse (I still don't know how - I only found out when one of the credit card companies phoned me re unusual transactions) the police would not take a report on the phone and I had to go physically to a police station and fill in forms. I had to walk to Peckham police station because the ED police station was closed, and then wait for ages to be seen amongst, as I think someone said above, some not very savoury people. I do take your point redjam, but Peckham is not very convenient. -
Otta, I have a turntable you can borrow which I bought to digitalise my vinyl collection with. I didn't get round to doing many though, so I'd want it back! And yes, I downloaded Audacity. It's quite easy to edit stuff with it. ETA: PM me if you want to borrow it.

James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not sure that local pharmacies are that far from > DMC xxxxx Very recently I was ill, and it was a real effort to walk from DMC to the nearest pharmacy in North Cross Road to get my prescription made up, and then walk back to my house, even though had I been well it is a very easy short walk.

Twirly said: However, when I received the email to confirm my address, it then took me through to a part of the site which showed my "account" with the LibDems, allowing my to change my password, but nowhere could I see a means of closing the account down, and nowhere in the process was I informed that by signing the petition I would be setting up any form of account with the Lib Dems. This seems rather disingenuous. xxxxxx I have looked at the website again, and I clicked on "my account" at the bottom. In order to register on the website (and get into "my account") it appears that you have to give not only your email address but a password. If you have not at any point entered a password, I don't see how you can have been registered just because you happen to have given your email address in order for your petition signature to be verified as being you. I have not tested this because I do not want to register either! I am very sorry that my good intentions in starting this thread have been mired in red herrings :( -

Fair enough, but many GP's surgeries have pharmacies attached. It's obviously much more convenient for the patients to be able to get their prescriptions immediately.

the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There was quite a lot of opposition mainly based > on mis-apprehension and prejudice. xxxxxxx Yes, I remember the prejudice and total misunderstanding. People seemed to think there was going to be an influx of hundreds of people dressed like tramps leaving infected needles strewn all over the area.
-
James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm really disappointed that the Dulwich Medical > Centre is reapplying for what was so vehemently > opposed only a few years ago. xxxxxx "Vehemently opposed" by how many people? And supported by how many people? And where did those figures come from? I don't recall a local referendum on the matter.

The thistle motif that remains in Le > Chardon was the David Greig symbol - there's a > deli or restaurant in the Herne Hill end of Half > Moon Lane that has the same motif and is therefore > the site of another David Greig shop. xxxxxx For some strange reason though, it wasn't called Thistles, it was called Thistells, if memory serves. Who knows why!
