  1. Maybe the people who didn't think I was thick are now revising their opinion :)

All water pipes are the same to me :)

Being "aware of the risks" isn't much help if one of the risks happens, is it? And "closing it down for half the day" is a bit of an exaggeration, surely? Parks are normally open until dusk, which varies in time for month to month. ETA: I find it slightly irritating - in the Winter particularly when it closes early - when I have to walk the long way round to DHFC (next to Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill) rather than being able to cut through the park. But I'd rather have to walk a bit further than risk being attacked :( Obviously in an ideal world this wouldn't be an issue, but sadly in London it is. It doesn't stop me doing what I want - just makes me a bit more careful about how I do it. ETA: In case of any doubt, I am in no way blaming the person who was attacked in Warwick Gardens, and I hope they catch the bastard who did it soon. And there are several issues involved here - locking up parks at night is just one of them.
  4. In fairness, I know there have been a few disgruntled DMC patients venting on this forum, but I have been quite happy with them. Surely it's not DMC's fault if you're out of their catchment area, Dee Woffaz??

It's common practice to shut parks at night, surely, for obvious reasons - to prevent the kind of incident which sadly has just happened. When the park next to Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill was not locked at night as it should have been (though I don't think this is a council-run park), there was an incident there as well. Can't remember exactly what, I think it was a mugging. After which they were a bit more conscientious about making sure it was locked.
  6. But is there only one drop-in session? The letter I got said "...we would like to invite you to attend one of our informal 'drop-in' sessions in the area". And "We will write to invite you to this nearer the time". It also gave a telephone number to call for any questions in the meantime, with a reference number, and said "If you would like to know more about our work, please visit our website at http://www.thameswater.co.uk/ " It also said our water supply would not be affected by this work. The letter was signed by a named person, with his phone number at the top. I don't have anything to do with Thames Water, but I really don't see how they could have done anything more at all to be more helpful to residents about this. And if it's going to help stop the huge number of leaks we constantly seem to be getting, with water running down our roads, then as far as I can see it's all good :) ETA: Thanks to the forum members who don't think I'm thick :)

  8. the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There see now we have some new known knowns xxxx Not sure what .... The information about the drop-in session and what works are being carried out was in the letter you got on Sunday - the first letter was sent some time ago :) Not quite sure what the difference is between a drop-in session to answer questions and a public meeting, James? Forgive me for being thick ......
  9. Solid walls :(
  10. civilservant Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think they advise leaving crawl spaces under > fences for hedgies, who can't climb over fences in > the way that foxes can. > xxxxxx No hedgehogs for me, then :( Unless they burrow ....
  11. I downloaded the pack - due to demand (good!) they are no longer sending out printed versions. Because of the areas of colour, and photographs, some of the pack will be quite expensive to print out :( Can hedgehogs climb over walls, does anybody know? Because otherwise, I don't know how they would get into my garden anyway .... foxes seem to manage, but I think they climb?
  12. signorcrayfish Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > embrace the hedgehog! they'll keep your privet > free of slugs and snails :) xxxxxx If anyone has a hedgehog they don't want, please pass him/her to me .... I have no privet, but I have a lot of snails :)
  13. the-e-dealer Wrote: -- > > Anyone know anything about the Major Works by > Thames water? letter arrived on sunday. xxxxx Well, the letter explained what they were doing and why, didn't it - what other information would there be?
  14. Is that a request or just a song you remember, PGC? :)
  15. Thanks all for your help. Have a busy day today so may devote tomorrow to attempting to sort it :)

There were some other compatability problems which was why I switched, but Windows has been reinstalled since then.
  17. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >> > The Free version of AVG is next to useless. > xxxxxxxx I am not using AVG :)
  18. Thanks, I'm going out shortly, think I will leave this till tomorrow! I've eliminated the external hard drive as an issue, as I've just tried with a memory stick and got the same thing happening :( ETA: Where do I do this from? "open up command prompt with admin rights"
  19. Just connected the external hard drive again with a view to trying to transfer files and then seeing what is shown in the event log if there's a problem again. Now I've got "Windows Explorer has stopped working", and the following message: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Explorer.EXE Application Version: 6.0.6002.18005 Application Timestamp: 49e01da5 Fault Module Name: kernel32.dll Fault Module Version: 6.0.6002.18449 Fault Module Timestamp: 4da47967 Exception Code: e06d7363 Exception Offset: 0003fc56 OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057 Additional Information 1: fd00 Additional Information 2: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160 Additional Information 3: fd00 Additional Information 4: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160 Not sure if this is connected to the previous problems or something different, AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH :(
  20. Thanks. Nightmare :)
  21. Be a little cautious - I got totally wrong info about train times from the National Rail Enquiries website the other day. Luckily the correct times were later rather than earlier than stated, so I didn't miss a train .....
  22. Thanks Fox, I already know it is 32 bit - my query was whether to uninstall the existing Visual C++ programs first, not which one to then instal :) For clarity, I apparently already have: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL update k (string of long letters etc) installed 25 January 2012 AND Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable installed 9 November 2011. I'm assuming the first one was an automatic update as I wouldn't have updated it myself. ETA: I just don't want to mess things up further, therefore I need to be absolutely clear whether installing a new package will be OK if the old programs are still there, or whether I need to uninstall the old ones first.
  23. The next Singaround is Sunday 11 November - it will be in the Mag if it's still open by then, otherwise please check the Goose website for details. http://www.thegooseisout.com Any requests for particular songs you sang at school, please let me know! Then if you're too shy to start them off yourself, somebody else can :)
  24. So did any of you come to the Singaround last night (Sunday)? There were quite a few new faces :)
  25. BytelLinks, do I have to uninstal the existing C++ programmes? I seem to have two of them at present (with slightly different names). Or will reinstalling the package automatically uninstal the existing ones?
