  1. How overweight is "very overweight"?

  3. Monkey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > That's really good compared to DMC where the > nearest appointment available is usually three > weeks away! xxxxxxx As I posted on another thread, I was offered an appointment with DMC the same week as I had had a telephone consultation. Though I do note you said "usually" :)
  4. I had a few days in Aberdeen. Went there from Dundee on the coach. Good fish market. Well we were students, so it seemed quite luxurious really. LOL.
  5. But you didn't say what road it was, who had seen the activities you described, and whether the police had been informed .... And attempted burglary (if that is what it was) is hardly in the same league as attempted abduction .....
  6. japseylarue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > See other thread - 'white van thieves' xxxxxx Does not sound likely to be connected. Really glad your daughter is OK, JimmyV, what a frightening thing to happen. ETA: Has the other thread disappeared?

Who has seen them attempting to break in by jemmying windows? Are the police aware?
  9. I just googled tomato diseases and this came up: Tomato Diseases on eBay for less. Find great deals on eBay. :)

I know I would never do it (well I hope I wouldn't!) but nevertheless I stand back from the edge of the platform just in case :) I hate heights so I'd go nowhere near the edge of a cliff etc, but I guess it's similar. Glad to hear it's life-affirming, Katie but not quite sure how it can be interpreted as that! :)

    Eddie Izzard

Damn saw this too late. I saw him years ago (early nineties?) upstairs at the EDT. He was brilliant. Still makes me laugh thinking about it. The place was rammed.
  12. Is it just me who doesn't give a **** where the torch is going? (Blush).
  13. Yodel is a different issue, but for Royal Mail there is an online complaints form you can fill in. If you have problems with Sylvester Road delivery office (and I must say I haven't), then you can presumably complain about that online as well. If you give details of what has been apparently lost and when it was posted, then that will help Royal Mail identify what is going wrong, I guess. Alternatively, if you are mega pissed off, you can always go to the top. If you write to the chair or chief exec of Royal Mail then some poor minion will be charged with investigating and drafting a reply to your letter. That's assuming things are the same as they were in the eighties, of course :) Writing to your MP will also probably result in her/him forwarding it on to Royal Mail, and again some poor minion etc etc ..... They used to be called "flag cases" and a response had to go out within - I think it was a week.

  15. Havent done it yet. Got cupboard and chest to paint first!

It also offers a needle exchange service. xxxxx That is interesting. So East Dulwich already has a quite central needle exchange. Also interesting - has there been an increase in crime around Sainsbury's since it opened? And there's a children's adventure playground right next door to Sainsbury's, too :)
  18. I have a very small letterbox and the postie always rings my bell if he/she has something which won't fit through it.
  19. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > They'd be better off cashing in on the building > site, and opening a shop front counter service on > Lordship Lane. xxxxxx Yes that's a good idea (though goodness knows what the rent of that would be).
  20. doubledutch Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yeah, step away from the computer Sue. Seriously, > why dismiss others who's opinion you don't share? xxxx I'm not dismissing anybody. I'm asking for statistical evidence, rather than opinions, on the effect on the immediate neighbourhood of opening needle exchanges in the UK . I was trained as a scientist and hence I prefer to see this kind of decision based on facts rather than opinion. This is a forum, so it's obviously fine if people want to give their opinion here, but it is not opinion which should be deciding whether or not a needle exchange is opened round the corner from my house. Why should I "step away from the computer"? I'm as entitled to give my views here as anybody else. I have been perfectly polite as far as I can see, and all I am asking for is facts.

A handful of > exchanges so they stay "safe" while shooting up? > What about help to get them clean and to stay > clean? But that's a whole other issue! xxxxx Yes that's a whole other issue, so why raise it here? And all I am asking for is some evidence, which nobody so far has been able to give me. Without that, there is no point in discussion, is there, because it is based on nothing. And as somebody has pointed out above, all sorts of sick people are already visiting the DMC, which is next to the nursery. ETA: And now I'm closing down my laptop for the evening!

I'm suggesting that the material she is quoting in support of her views is not actually proving anything about the effects, if any, which a needle exchange may have on the surrounding neighbourhood. ETA: I'm very willing to listen to any proven facts, particularly as I live just round the corner from DMC and it is my surgery.

Have I missed the mention of needle exchanges?

  25. I'd like to see actual statistics from the neighbourhoods of needle exchanges which have been set up in this country please, not vague "conclusions" about "an increase" from an American paper nearly five years old which is clearly setting out, as indeed its title states, to make the case for opposing needle exchange. ETA: And as has already been clear, needle exchange users DO differ from many other drug users, because they are responsibly attending a centre where they can obtain clean needles. Which is not to say that many other needle users who do not use needle exchanges are not responsible. And not all drug users, in fact I would guess not the majority, use needles at all, so to quote studies about links between drug use and crime is just muddying the waters here.
