What did Kelvin say about it? The other sellers are only just over the road from where he usually stands.

Man collecting for breast cancer charity - Copleston Road area

R&A Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > or whether i've just been too suspicious? xxxxxx He was asking for money late at night for a therapy he didn't know how to spell? An alternative to chemo? Not too suspicious, no ..... What was the money supposed to be for, exactly? ETA: If you can be bothered, maybe report this to the police? -

If everybody cleared up litter in the area immediately around where they lived, there would be rather less of a problem, wouldn't there? Of course others shouldn't drop it in the first place, but it doesn't take a moment to pick it up and put it in the nearest bin. Though I must admit my belief in this practice was somewhat shaken the other week when I picked up a paper bag intending to put it in a bin, only to find that it contained dog turds - bad enough, but it had been raining, and .... afraid in that case I threw it rather hastily into the gutter. The thing is, though - who would be bothered enough to put the turds into a paper bag in the first place, only to then drop it on the pavement? Weird.

East Dulwich woman killed by runaway car in West Hampstead
Sue replied to Girl82's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I had posted agreeing with Otta's point about elderly drivers, then belatedly realised it was not an appropriate thread to be expanding on that. Sorry. Can't begin to imagine what this must be like for all involved. -

Yesterday (during the day) I saw a dead sparrow lying on the pavement in Ulverscroft Road. It didn't have any obvious signs of injury. It seemed to be quite young, though it was hard to tell. It's quite unusual to see dead birds around at all, so I wonder if anybody can shed any light as to what might have happened? The flies were beginning to gather :(

trevnsarah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Saw a couple of buzzards a > few weeks back and always curious why there arent > more birds of prey (buzzards etc) given the amount > of vermin etc xxxxxxxx Maybe they're finding better pickings elsewhere? I had a bird of prey in my tiny garden a few years ago. It was actually quite scary because it was so large in relation to the size of the garden. I used to get a load of starlings coming down to my bird feeders, and it had one in its claws. The poor starling was making the most terrible noise. I was going to go out and try to rescue the starling, but thought better of it when I realised what a large beak and claws might do to me, never mind the starling :))

StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "Sounds like they could do with a mirror there or > something, particularly as it's near the school." > > Or drivers who break the law could face stronger > deterrent xxxxxxx Yes but unless there's a camera at the crossing, how's that going to work? Even if someone got the guy's number, which in the heat of the moment and worrying about your kids is going to be the last thing on your mind, it's one person's word against another's unless there's proof, surely?
-
Fair enough. Sounds like they could do with a mirror there or something, particularly as it's near the school. ETA: Crossed post! A lollipop person would be an even better idea. ETA: Except of course a mirror would be there all the time, and the lollipop person only at school going in/coming out times I guess ......

And > even if that happens, who is losing out? xxxxxx Well presumably the registered Big Issue sellers would be losing out. But I agree, it's highly unlikely anybody could do that, or even want to.
-
That's fair enough. I'm REALLY not trying to have a go, and clearly the driver was totally out of order, and I'm very glad nothing terrible happened to any of you. But given that there are this kind of lunatic drivers on the road, maybe best to check that traffic is slowing down before you start crossing, even if theoretically you are in the right ...... Easy for me to say, I know. And it shouldn't be necessary, of course it shouldn't. But better to be safe than sorry.....

The only time I've knowingly been scammed by a Big Issue seller was once in town. I gave him the money, he handed me the mag. Then he asked for it back so he could sell it to somebody else :)) It seemed he only had one copy. I thought it was quite enterprising actually so I did give him the mag back .....

david_carnell Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Elephant and Castle? xxxxxx Oh yeh, good thinking. The website I posted the link to gives "Southwark" as one of the options, but I didn't bother to investigate where abouts in Southwark - I guess that would be it :)
-
Is this a Pelican crossing? When you say the light was red and you had the right of way, was the "green man" showing for pedestrians? ETA: I'm not excusing the motorcyclist, but having the right of way does not mean you shouldn't look to see what is coming before stepping out into the road - unless s/he came suddenly round a corner so couldn't be seen?

jane1 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > do they do clubs xxxxxx I've no idea, I just googled it to help you out :) I guess any further research is down to you now - phone or internet :) ETA: Sorry don't mean to sound harsh. Maybe someone in the family room section of the forum would know?

It's 4.30am and the heathrow flight path appears to be in use
Sue replied to maxtedc's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There was an interesting programme on Radio 4 this morning - about 9am - about how Heathrow came to be sited where it was, prevailing winds etc. and how that now means the planes in and out of Heathrow fly over heavily populated areas (ie in this case, us). I didn't hear all the programme as I had to get up (blush).
