  2. sambless Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- You don't have > young children do you? I really hope they didn't > see, that would be awful. xxxxxx Eh? Rats may be vermin and a health hazard, and therefore have to be controlled, but they are also animals and part of the natural world. What's wrong with children seeing them? Or are you joking?
  3. Taper - we haven't yet, but that's not a deliberate policy :) We were approached by one very good Cajun band, but they weren't well enough known to put on at DHFC and their fee was too high for the Mag. If there's anyone you'd like us to check out, PM me :)

  5. Phillip Henry. You won't have heard of him yet, but you will. First guitarist since I first saw Bert Jansch around 1965 to literally make my jaw drop. And sit there with my mouth hanging open. F-ing amazing slide.

And a bloody nice bloke as well. Best version of Tamlyn I've ever heard in my life, makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. R.I.P.

  9. One rat? Luxury! I once lived in a hut on a farm, and I used to have a birdfeeder. One day I saw what I thought was a squirrel on the feeder, then I saw it had a very thin tail for a squirrel, then I realised it was a rat. Long story short (ish), I once counted seventeen rats of assorted sizes outside my kitchen window. There was a big grizzled granddaddy down to little ones. I felt like the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Stupid as it sounds, I actually quite liked them. However then they started coming into the hut and into my food cupboards and moving the food around. Then they started getting underneath the hut and gnawing through the wooden floor. I used to lie in my bed at night hearing them gnawing through the bedroom floor. The farmers put metal plates beneath the floor, but that didn't deter them. Then they gnawed through the plastic boxes I kept the birdfood in. Sadly, eventually I agreed to them being poisoned. That wasn't the end of it though, because one expired beneath my hut, in a totally inaccessible place. The smell was indescribable. For weeks, if memory serves. Oh happy days :)

  11. tallulah71 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I know one of the neighbours > regularly puts food out for them too which doesn;t > help. > xxxxxxxx Could you not explain the problem to your neighbour and ask him/her to stop feeding them? Obviously it's going to be almost impossible to deter them if they're getting a regular supply of nearby food.

Is Tad actually dead, are you sure he's not just hiding? I didn't see any of mine for ages, thought they had snuffed it. :-S
  13. I've got a froglet!!! Just went out to check my tub wasn't overflowing, and a little froggie leaped off the pile of stones and into the tub! Hurrah!!! :)-D Now fingers crossed a cat doesn't get it :-S ETA: Am feeding the taddies freeze-dried bloodworms recommended by a fish shop for when they start geting legs, on the basis that even though I rarely see a taddie as they lurk down the bottom, they jolly well should be getting legs by now, seems I was right!
  14. What's this got to do with North Cross Road, fredricketts??
  15. Lucky you, I'm very jealous :)
  16. Meant to post this before and forgot! On Saturday morning, I saw what appeared to be a flock of long-tailed tits flying into the trees next to Sainsbury's carpark (on the right hand side as you face Sainsbury's). I've never seen long-tailed tits in ED before, though when I lived in Oundle I often used to get them coming down to my birdfeeder. I've also seen them in woods in Sussex. Anyone else seen them about in ED, eg in the woods?

Old Kent Road?

The Co-op is very convenient and depending on where you live, you don't need a car to get there (just a shopping trolley in my case :)) ) And how big is your car, if you spend ?50+ on petrol each time you fill it up there? My little Micra wouldn't take that much even if it was empty!
  19. andynic Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >The Montpelier > does a good one on Tuesdays, but has stopped for > the summer rather bizarrely. xxxxxx Not sure why that's bizarre! People are away during the Summer, plus many people prefer to sit outside rather than inside on light Summer evenings.
  20. Frankito Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Are they going to turn the Co-op in LL into a > Waitrose too then? Happy days... As long as they > don't keep any of the staff eh! xxxxxx Most of the Co-Op staff are friendly and helpful (in the Lordship Lane branch).

  22. Greyhound does terrible food. Worst Sunday lunch I have ever had in my life, in fact probably the worst meal. I'm amazed to see people recommending it here. Herne bad in other ways but yes is family friendly, just avoid having any dealings with the manager. I'd try Franklins or the Mag .....

  24. maxxi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > no - same tat but no divvy. xxxxxxx This just isn't true, sorry! The Co-op in Lordship Lane has a much better range of things than Somerfield ever had, including a lot of Fair Trade items. They also have very good special offers sometimes. It's far from perfect, but it's unfair to call it tat. And there is divvy - as I said above, I just got over eleven quid, which I can get paid straight into my bank account. And I don't do my main shop there, just odds and ends. You have to join their membership scheme and get a card, however, and use it when you buy stuff, obviously, before you are eligible for divvy.
