  1. Agreed. How can "gardening" possibly include articial lawns? Ooops. Or artificial lawns, even.
  2. This is brilliant :))
  3. If only I lived nearer to the station, I would offer to plant up, water and maintain some real flowering baskets, but sadly I don't. I just can't bear plastic flowers, sorry, I think they look really cheap and tacky, however much they cost. I do appreciate the effort that's been made though :-$
  4. Sorry if this has already been raised - I don't really want to trawl through 30 pages to find out! I haven't used the train for a long time, but went to London Bridge by train yesterday. I was sad to see hanging baskets at ED station filled with plastic flowers, especially at this time of year. I'm all for brightening stations up, and I realise there's a potential issue with watering and maintenance, but would it not be possible to have something real instead? Even just ivy, which probably wouldn't need as much watering as flowering plants? I do appreciate your coming onto this forum, and your obvious commitment to your job and your customers, so I hope the above doesn't come across as too churlish ......
  5. Boho used to be a place with slot machines :)
  6. Flying ants in ED noted in the lounge HERE!!
  7. Is that men's clothes shop that used to be between the petrol station and the station (on the petrol station side of the road) not there any more? I never noticed it had gone :-$ Can't remember what it was called.

  9. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Any takers? xxxxxxx Nearly two years to respond, is that a record? :)
  10. I have hated flying ants ever since I walked into a swarm of them coming home from school and got loads tangled up in my hair (td)

  12. Easties EL Wrote: I end up always leaving the Co-Op > empty handed and then making the walk to > Sainsbury. xxxxxxxx Well fair enough, if you don't like the Co-op's selection (and they can hardly stock as wide a selection as Sainsbury's given it's about a tenth of the size :) ) why not just go to Sainsbury's in the first place? Horses for courses, and we're lucky to have a choice of two supermarkets within easy reach.
  13. Sorry - just trying to give info to people who may not have seen the other thread, which is in the "What's On" section. The title of the thread says "the" street party, although as has been pointed out there are several street parties going on in East Dulwich. Surely the more information about them all the merrier - then people can decide which they want to go to, although I guess as this is about getting to know your neighbours, most people will go to the one nearest them? Apologies if I've pissed anyone off, but I was only trying to spread the word :-S As anybody else can do about their street party .....
  14. Crystal Palace Road has live music from 2pm including Jen Doyle and Joe Fowler (brilliant local duo who you may have seen when they played the final set at the Dulwich Fair on Goose Green earlier in the year :) ) and Fran McGillivray and Mike Burke (equally brilliant but quite different local blues duo who supported Eliza Carthy and Saul Rose at DHFC a couple of weeks back). PLUS There will be a busker who we are told is fantastic, plus CPR resident Fidel with his band will be playing at around 3.30pm after the raffle (raffle is at 3pm - excellent prizes!!) PLUS Before the live music there will be Big Chill/Goose Is Out! DJs with a mixture of all kinds of music, much of which we hope you will sing along to :)

    Visa v Mastercard

Thanks both! I have no plans to go to the Olympics, but yes if some places only take one or the other that's a good reason to keep on one card of each kind, thanks!
  16. Rationalising my credit cards. Before I cancel my Visa, is there any advantage (eg when travelling) to having a Visa rather than a Mastercard?
  17. jimmyay Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Co-op is not good with food. It's expensive and > often poor quality in East Dulwich. xxxxxxx I disagree. Are you talking about the one in Lordship Lane? I think it's vastly improved since it first opened as a Co-op. When you say it's expensive and often poor quality, what are you comparing it with, and can you give examples?
  18. Dubonnet brings back memories, when I was a student it was the cheapest thing at the bar :))

Seems that word is > getting round in the heron community that there > are rich pickings in PRP pond. xxxxxxxxx There are three herons, probably a pair plus their young one, see further up the thread :)
  20. There's also a street party on Crystal Palace Road, between noon and 5pm. See the thread in the "What's On" section of the forum! It's the part of the road between North Cross Road and Whateley Road. :)-D Edited to say: Bring food to share, plus picnic chairs if you have them, there will be lots of fun including games, music, a plant stall and a raffle :)
  21. LadyTaTa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Saying that, being on the 4th floor doesn't stop > the pigeons looking longingly at the feeder :)) xxxxxxxxxx I know someone who lives in a 12th floor flat. In an effort to deter the pigeons from his balcony he obtained a life-sized plastic crow (I think), stuck black feathers all over it and attached it to the rail. This backfired when it was divebombed by the real local crows, who pecked all the feathers off :)) Simon, I believe the RSPB advises feeding birds all year round. I have fat balls, peanuts and seeds out at the moment, and they're all getting eaten, even though the birds are clearly eating insects etc as well. I also have water out all year round, though I didn't see any birds drinking from it even during the very hot weather (or bathing come to that) though maybe I just wasn't looking out of my window at the right time.
  22. Great pic of the stag beetle! Apparently Herne Hill and thereabouts is a hotspot for them? I heard there is a window of opportunity to see them at dusk when they fly. Lady TaTa, my fat balls are rapidly being gobbled up by birds, even though it's summer. Have you got yours in a place where the birds can have some shelter and are not highly visible to cats?

  24. Sharon_H Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Oops again, sorry Sue, it's only because I don't > go out much. xxxxxxx Nah, it's because I have retro tastes in booze :)) Quite fancy a Brandy Alexander since seeing it mentioned above, I used to like them so much I bought in the ingredients .... :)-D
  25. Sharon_H Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Oops, sorry Sue, in my defence I've not seen or > heard of anyone drinking it a long time. xxxxxxxx :-$
