Starts off as if you're getting a cold (sore throat for a couple of days, slight runny nose) then sudden onset of dizziness/nausea/having to lie down? I'm hoping it's a bug going round and not some other hideous illness.......

mlteenie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Train to London Bridge 12 mins - train from London > Bridge to Brighton 1 hour. xxxxxx This is what I do - less hassle. May depend on where abouts in ED you are, eg whether at the Forest Hill end. I have a shortish walk to ED station. Coming back from Brighton via a change at Croydon has always been an absolute nightmare in my experience. ETA: And yes, hanging about cold deserted stations when changing trains at night is not my idea of fun either. Also, the less (fewer?) changes you have, the less chance of things going wrong or cancelled trains. ETA: It may seem odd to go South via going North, but if the journey is easier it makes sense to me. Also may be slightly more expensive but I think not much.

East Dulwich Emergency Group --- need help or want to help?
Sue replied to JS33's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This all seems to be getting quite complex now :-S Perhaps it might be better to let people help their neighbours on an ad hoc basis rather than to put it on such a formal footing? -
Ex-prisoners selling door-to-door for work experience
Sue replied to doubledipper's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Saffron Wrote: > there is a genuine project for providing this kind > of work for recently released prisoners. xxxxxxx Seems a strange kind of work to give to ex-offenders, depending on what their offence was of course. Let's hope not breaking and entering. What are they selling/hoping to sell? Not teatowels again, surely?? -
Dorothy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I moved here in 1996 and am certain that the > black-fronted shop with the long lace net curtains > was there on North Cross Road even then. xxxxxxx I moved here in 1991 and I don't remember that shop/house, though admittedly my memory is crap :)) I remember a butcher, a newsagent, a cobbler and a Greek deli in North Cross Road, all of which have long gone.

tallulah71 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > they're not the friendliest of people. xxxxxxx I've always found them helpful and friendly, and they went to enormous lengths to track something down for me to replace something I'd bought there and lost, which their supplier no longer made. And I wasn't even buying it from them.

Thanks both, that's useful. Seems I can't expect to get more than 6 so I suppose 5.5 ish isn't too bad :-S

Where is the exchange located exactly? Which bit of Lordship Lane? Thanks.

louisiana Wrote: > > Presumably you're wondering about a reduction in > number of years required? xxxxxxxx No, I'm wondering whether, having already reached pension age (as it is at the moment for women ie 60), I am likely to be eligible for this future proposed massive state pension which future pensioners are going to get, or whether I am stuck with what I'm due at the moment (6)

A green paper on the proposed future of state pensions was supposed to be published in November. Anybody know anything about this? I've deferred claiming my state pension pro tem (much good though I'm sure that's going to do me) in case there's a miniscule chance I might end up better off, and I need to know what the latest is - though I suspect there will be a two-tier system and people my age will just be told "tough, you're still on the old system". Before anyone tells me, yes I know I will get a bigger monthly pension anyway by deferring it, but it will still be lower than it should be because I was a student for too long :-$ and nobody ever told me there was a cap on the number of years your NI payments were waived, or whatever the technical term is, whilst you are a student :-$

Yeh well as I said two days ago, it's OK now!

If the cars from the Mirash are legally parked, then that's a really unfair OP. So what if it's a busy road? If they're allowed to park there, why on earth should they park further away from their place of work? If illegally parked, then it's irrelevant whether or not they've caused a problem today, they shouldn't be parked there at all.

offering to do shopping trips for elderly/people unable to go
Sue replied to zeban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry haven't read all this thread, but I'd be happy to be on a list of people willing to do shopping for anybody who can't get out of their house because of weather conditions (provided I can get out of my house of course :)) ) Please whoever is organising it (respect) PM me letting me know what details you want from me. -

RosieH - someone I used to rate used to say - when faced with a decision, don't agonise over it, just go with the Biggest Yes. Of your three possible courses, which is shouting loudest to you? Or, which one "feels" most right? If that really doesn't resonate, then (and I'm sure you've tried this) how about writing down the pros/cons of each and seeing how they pan out? But I recommend retirement :)) :)-D

offering to do shopping trips for elderly/people unable to go
Sue replied to zeban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What a great thread. If you understandably don't want to cause unnecessary alarm by knocking on people's doors, you could put a note through the letterbox explaining what you're offering and say you'll be calling back at a certain time? Zeban, you're a star. -

ianr Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Marmora Man Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Thanks - I'm getting 8Mb today > > Over the BT telephone line, from Virgin? xxxxxxxxxx That must be with cable, surely? My phone line (693 number) won't support 8mb - Plusnet had estimated my line speed at 7mbs but I haven't got above 5.5 mbs since I moved to them, which is about the same as I was getting with AOL.
