It takes your cursor down the page so that you can have the occasional space between your sentences, ie it divides your text into paragraphs so that it is readable :) Edited again to say: You must have discovered this big key, because you do have a space at the top and bottom, just an indigestible mass of text in the middle! In my opinion, obviously.

You need to phone the bus garage - they keep lost property at the garage for a time before sending it to the main lost property office (who should have told you that!) I don't know which the garage is for the 40, but you can google it, there is a list of garages and bus numbers. Each garage will have a customer service line. Let me know if you need any more help. I personally can't see the problem with signatures unless either a) they are offensive in some way or b) someone is clearly posting on the forum with the sole purpose of getting their signature about. If some are removed and not others, which is what is happening now, that is just unfair and divisive. Why is it not OK to have signatures advertising things which are of clear benefit to the East Dulwich community, like a humanist funeral celebrant, and folk music events, which people may not otherwise know about, but OK to have politicians advertising their political party just before an election? If people want to contact these politicians they can PM them on the forum, so they do not need to give other contact details.

Jah Lush Wrote: (edited by Sue) ------------------------------------------------------- > > My good friend and quaffing partner Steveo has > never been allowed to advertise the two books he > has written but other people on here like Sue have seemingly been allowed to do just > that for ages. xxxxxxx I don't particularly want to continue this discussion because I have reluctantly accepted admin's ruling, but may I just say that presumably neither of your friend's books has anything to do with East Dulwich (apologies if I'm wrong). Our Goose gigs were started specifically to bring folk music to East Dulwich because there wasn't any here, and my signature (Folk returns to East Dulwich etc) was intended to let people know that. We only started putting on the gigs after posting on this forum to find out whether people would be interested and getting a very positive response. However after two years we still get people living in ED who have only just heard of us. We don't have time to promote the Goose as widely as we'd like to as we both have day jobs, which was why the signature was so useful as it reached people in the area who were interested in folk music but who might never look in the "what's on" section. Anyway it's water under the bridge now.

I'm so sorry that PeckhamRose's signature has been removed as a result of this, I was not intending that at all. Surely hers is a different case altogether?
-
Yes I agree, better to remove the signature facility altogether, or else allow everyone to have a signature unless it is blatantly either being used excessively for advertising purposes or is offensive. It's not just the Lib Dem councillor, there is also a Green person whose signature is promoting Green things - I'm not opposed to either of them, good luck to them, just seems the present system is divisive.

Bus to Elephant, Elephant to Paddington via Bakerloo, Paddington to Reading is what I'd do. Bakerloo line from Elephant is fine in the rush hour, as it starts from there. But book overline train beforehand so you don't have to queue at Paddington, and leave plenty of time to get to Elephant on the bus. Personally I wouldn't drive unless you've done it before around the time you're going, are familiar with the route and know what the traffic is likely to be like. Good luck :)

We were conducting it via PM, but you didn't reply to my last PM. What's a "free signature"? Why are politicians allowed "free signatures"? Are there signatures which you can have if you pay for? We can't afford to place an advert - we did ask how much it would cost a while ago, and it was too expensive. I am not "kicking up a fuss", whatever that is, if you now have a rule that "event signatures are not allowed" then fair enough, it's your forum, for which I have expressed gratitude many times, but the rule wasn't there before. I just feel a bit aggrieved (sp?) that people who have really worked to improve what's going on in East Dulwich are not being encouraged, but fair enough, as I say, it's your forum, it is whatever you want it to be. Pax :)

Why is there no clear guidance in the forum rules, so far as I can see, about who is allowed to have a signature and what the criteria are? On each post, there is a box to be ticked which says "add my signature to this post", but nothing, so far as I can see, about who is allowed to have one. So, we have a humanist funeral person (respect!) and a few politicians who are allowed to freely advertise their services/politics via their signature. However people such as myself and FlapJackDavey who introduced music gigs to an area which was a musical desert because they saw a community need for it (and actually asked forum users whether they would like us to do this) are no longer allowed to include a link to their website saying when and where the gigs are (all in East Dulwich) on the grounds that it is a "business". And because apparently the forum admin has to constantly explain to every tradesperson or whatever why they can't do the same. Surely a) the difference between a builder making a living from a building business and someone putting on music events in their spare time is quite obvious and b) if it isn't, a clear explanation in the forum rules would suffice?

Three pretty poor options put forward, no local artists asked to suggest ideas, very limited consultation to date, (apologies Mr Barber if you think there is going to be more but from MiniToots post it doesn't sound like it), everything got to be sorted "very quickly" but emails and posts on this forum apparently not taken into account. Don't want to be cynical, but who is making money out of this? ETA: It wasn't a "meeting", was it, it was a sort of drop-in-anytime-between-three-and-six. That meant there was no opportunity for discussion - when we went, there was nobody else there, they were just asking people to fill in leaflets and then they put them in a bag! There needs to be a specific time for people to come and talk about this, all together, surely? Or else a proper consultation with a leaflet drop round all doors. -

sophiesofa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue, or anyone else who went what was the outcome > of the meeting? Thanks in advance! xxxxxx It wasn't a "meeting", in fact. It was two or three women with a pile of leaflets, and you had to fill in the leaflet saying which of the three options you liked best, with comments. They also had a bit of paper on display saying you could give other ideas, though that wasn't made clear on the leaflet. I don't think this "consultation" has been very thorough at all. When the Goose Green roundabout tree/sculpture etc was mooted, leaflets about it on which you could vote were dropped through doors. I live off North Cross Road and would never have known about this if it hadn't been for this thread on the forum. How many residents don't know about the forum or don't use it? I have no idea who the women were, but they seemed to want to talk amongst themselves rather than discuss the options. I did ask one if she was the artist, as I realised I was slagging off the mock-ups to my OH in what could have been a tactless manner if the "artist" had been present, but she just said no, and didn't say who she was. There doesn't seem to have been any publicity at all about this Palmerston thing, apart from on here, why on earth didn't they either have their table actually under the wall itself, with pix, or at least have a notice on the wall to tell people they were in the Palmerston? I don't know how many people went, but there was nobody else there at the timne we went (about four I think). -

I can understand they didn't want to stand on North Cross Road in freezing weather, but why not put a sign against the wall in question briefly explaining the proposals and directing people to the Pamerston? Lots of people come down this way on a Saturday. The only publicity for this "consultation" I have seen is on this forum. I was told they had put info round locally, but I live just round the corner to the wall and haven't had anything about it. I'd have known nothing about it if I didn't come on the EDF. For what it's worth I suggested a) Lighting up the wall with coloured light, as the National Theatre does at night b) Green wall with wires and an evergreen non-clinging plant which would not hurt the wall, such as Clematis armandii which is shade tolerant and has scented flowers in Winter. Also has attractive evergreen leaves. c) Their option of photos - photos of East Dulwich, combined with a community notice board as someone suggested above. I think any of the options with those harsh colours would be really out of keeping with the feel of the road. -
