  1. On a sloe bush thing Sloe bush
  2. Life's too short, lol. Just grit your teeth and wear the spex :)) Now, if you were short-sighted like me you could have super duper varifocal contact lenses, best invention since - oh, the last best invention. No need for reading glasses at all! Hurrah! Well, except in very dim light :-$ Edited to say: I believe if you have lasered eyes for short sight you will still need reading glasses as you get older, though I may be completely wrong.
  3. Be Bop A Lula - Gene Vincent

  5. thexwinglessxbird Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This is tacky. > > xxxxxxxxxx Yes I think that's a large part of the problem. I went past the wall today, and was looking back along the street. Basically, this proposed "design" just doesn't fit in with the feel of the rest of North Cross Road. It's the sort of thing you'd have in a shopping centre (well I wouldn't, but it would be more appropriate there). Has anybody asked the shopkeepers in North Cross Road what they think about this?
  6. SimonM Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > North-facing wall = climbing hydrangea > > But I suppose it would get nicked... xxxxxxx Nah, not suitable, not evergreen I think, though very lovely :)
  7. Lucky I have a DVD of Pulp Fiction :))
  8. Yeh, East Dulwich could be nurturing the next Jean-Michel Basquiat.
  9. I don't think they voted for a palm tree, as I recall they had a few options including sculpture - thank God we didn't get that - and most people (including me) voted for a tree. Someone at the council then decided a palm tree would fit in with East Dulwich's Victorian past. I didn't like it until I found out why they'd planted it but once I understood the background I did :) However I don't think anyone could persuade me to like vinyl flowers .....
  10. Sorry for three posts running. I've never graffitied anything in my life, but I'd be tempted to go over these vinyl "flowers" with a spraycan or two :)) Improve the environment? Wreck the environment for anyone with any kind of aesthetic sensibility, more like. Edited to say: Reminds me of when I lived near Bromyard (Herefordshire), and the local council put up some truly hideous "sculptures", one lot metal, one lot wood, none of which had any kind of artistic merit and which made me cringe and curse every time I passed them, particularly as presumably my council tax had contributed to their probably enormous cost. So, who is the Arts Adviser at Southwark Council? I think we should be told. If it's the person who advised on the brilliant wolf etc near Denmark Hill Station, can't they advise on this as well (because it's pretty certain they haven't :)) )
  11. KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think the sun will always travel behind the wall > as it's pretty much North facing. > xxxxxxxxx It's possible to have plants that will thrive on a North facing wall. The dryness at the bottom and the height of the wall could be a problem though. Maybe we could have a mural of plants!
  12. JBARBER Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Woah. > Every year the council spends money removing > graffiti from this wall. xxxxxxxx Really? I pass it virtually every day as I live just off North Cross Road. Don't mean to disbelieve you but I don't recall ever having seen any graffiti on it?
  13. Banks of the Sweet Primroses - Shirley Collins
  14. I made sloe gin last year with some sloes my daughter gave me, sadly I drank the whole bottle in about a week :)) It was delicious :))

  17. Ah, hadn't spotted there were actually three designs, mine just opened at the third one :-$ Well, as Sophisofa says, better than a brick wall, but I'd much rather see a proper mural like the brilliant one which used to be on the wall opposite the side of the EDT, before some phillistine painted it over. Or even better, why couldn't we have some wires up it and some evergreen climbers? They've done that in Islington to cover up bare walls adjacent to pavements. More in keeping with the Cleaner, Greener, Safer ethos than blooming (or rather, not blooming, hoho) vinyl flowers, I would have thought.
  18. Bottle of Smoke - The Pogues.
