Homeless people outside shops asking for money

Erm, are these last two posts on the wrong thread or have I finally lost it? :)) -

But I don't think the one in East Dulwich actually sold freezers, just frozen food. Or possibly my memory is even more crap than I thought it was :))

I know this sounds mean, but it seems odd to me that they only seem to appear on Friday and Saturday nights when people are coming out of the ED pubs, and sit outside Budgens (or sometimes Somerfield) - where are they the rest of the time? Afraid I tend to agree that it's better to give money to charities helping the homeless rather than to individuals - I've been stung too many times with bad luck stories that in retrospect were obviously false :-$ -
Thanks for the link :) Hope it would be better than the Co-op pharmacy in LL, which I always find quite depressing on the rare occasions I venture in :-S

I'd like to see a South Indian restaurant (dhosas etc) along the lines of the Ravi Shankar in Drummond Street (but with less surly service :) ), and the Sri Krishna in Tooting (if the latter is still there!) I know we have loads of Indian restaurants in Lordship Lane already, but Southern Indian food is quite different. Somewhere with decent home made almond khulfi (spelling?) would be good too - best I have ever had was at the Ravi Shankar. Most Indian restaurants seem to buy in this vile boring stuff. I'd also like to see a Japanese Wagamama type noodle restaurant in ED, of reliable quality - there's Fujiyama in Brixton, who will deliver to East Dulwich if you don't want to trek over to Brixton to eat, but it can be a bit variable depending on what you order. Now I'm getting hungry ..... :)) -
If you are coming to the Jackie Oates gig upstairs @ edt next Friday (18 July) please don't come hungry, as we have just been told that because the restaurant at the EDT has closed for the Summer, there won't be any food. Please don't let this put you off - it will be another great evening musically (not just Jackie, but two really excellent support acts) and there are lots of other places to eat nearby before the live music starts at 8pm. Admin - sorry for putting this in the issues/gossip section, but because of the short notice I'm concerned that people who already know about the gig and intend to come won't see my post in the appropriate thread in the "What's On" section because they won't look at that thread again before Friday :-$

YAY!!!!! Sunday roast!!!!! :)-D

I was about to start a thread on Somerfield! I too was charged over a pound more than the price marked on the shelf on a bottle of gin (hic) I bought there on my way home today - they eventually input the correct price after some to-ing and fro-ing. Only reason I noticed was because my criterion was getting the cheapest brand (I'm so discerning :) ) But the main problem was the lack of people on the tills, leading to huge queues at a predictably busy time I would have thought (around 5.45 pm on a Friday?) They had just one till open on the bank of six tills, so we got "till number five", "till number five" ad nauseam. Then a supervisor closed one of the other two single tills which were open - or at least, she put up a barrier and said to those of us just behind it "this till is closed now". We at the front of the queue then moved to the massive queue for till number five, upon which those at the back of the queue took our places and - before her eyes - moved past the barrier and got served :X AAAARRRGGGHHHH - this I can do without at the end of a hard week !! But where else can I buy booze, flowers and fruit at that time of day without having to either lug it home on rush hour buses/tubes (result - crushed flowers) or lug it back from Sainsbury's to the North Cross Road area?? :-S

It's not about being PC, it's about respecting other people and describing them in a respectful way. End of.

Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Perhaps to help people recognise him. > > Although I would suggest that the opening sentence > could be worded more tactfully. xxxxxx "Tactless" is not how I would describe the phrase "some door-knocking Asian." And - you think it might have been to help recognise him amongst - oh, how many people of Asian appearance are there in London? Would you like to be described as "some door-knocking White" to make you more easily identifiable? Edit: Assuming that you are white, of course :-$

I got a nice salad in Somerfield tonight with shredded raw beetroot and green stuff - all is not lost (squirrels have dug up my attempted salad crops in pots in my garden :-S - WHY?!?!? - Surely they don't think there are nuts in there?!?!?) :-S Anyway this is OT - what I want to know is, what's happening at BUDGEN's ???????????????

Or possibly an "inflection" - whatever either of those may be :) And I did post-grad research on stereotyped reactions to accented speech :)) :)):)):)) -
yay Adoodledo (great name!) I would also be interested to know what I can do, interested to find out what you research re the mentor thing.

Shelves seem to be getting emptier and emptier ..... Does this mean it's about to close? Would be bad news as it's my corner shop for the Saturday Guardian (and Dime bars and/or Ben and Jerry's when I'm feeling particularly weak-willed) :-S
-
Hurrah! I shall be down to claim mine then :)

:)):)):))

Are there any bags left?? I missed the closing date :-S But hey I have a wonderful Lakeland bag (?) which I carry everywhere, fits into a tiny space and weighs virtually nothing :)
