  2. Erm, was it organic? Back in the day, it was par for the course to have families of greenfly living in the lettuce from the greengrocer - that was before the days of hideous chemicals :)) I think you have put me off broccoli for life, thanks :)) Edited to say: And maggots in the peas - which you had to sit and shell - the peas not the maggots PS Forgive my ignorance, but what are the strange abbreviations/acronyms at the end of your post??
  3. EDOldie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Can he extend my belt? xxxxx That Paul McKenna book "I can make you thin" is very good :)) Not wishing to imply anything, you understand ..... :))
  4. mikeb Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Has anyone ever had bespoke shoes made by > Merrifields? xxxxxx I would have done, but he quoted me something like ?400 :))
  5. Jah Lush Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The cobbler on Grove Vale is excellent. The shop > may look a trifle shabby but the work he does is > top notch and almost half the price you'll pay in > town. xxxxxx I second this, he is very good indeed and very helpful. There used to be a cobblers in North Cross Road - where Stella B is now - I know which I found more useful :-S
  6. I used to live on an organic farm in Herefordshire. The farmers were offered a great deal of money to have a mobile mast on the farm, and they refused because of the potential health risks, plus they were very anti-mobiles anyway. However as the farm next door accepted the dosh, they still ended up with a mast very near their farmhouse (and my hut). :-S PS It was one of those that looked like a tree - quite sweet really - at least you could admire it whilst it was frying your brain :))
  7. EDOldie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > isn't there a libary there? or am i making that > up? xxxxxxx There is indeed a tiny library on the side opposite the station :)
  8. Otto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi > > Went into HSBC today to withdraw funds with my new > card and the bank teller told me not to use the > machines outside as they had been "compromised" on > several occasions... > > xo, otto xxxxxxxxx You'd think in the twenty first century that the banks would have found some way to overcome this, wouldn't you :-S Why does the bank not remove the machines, if they are warning people not to use them?? :-S

I don't know why it > didn't take off, I liked it xxxxxxxx It probably didn't take off because it didn't look like a great place to eat - which was why I never ventured in ...... :-S

(I don't shop at > Sainsbury's so can't do cash-back.) xxxxxxx Somerfield also do cashback :) You only have to buy something small (mind you,you may have to queue for half an hour to buy it :)) )
  11. I do miss seeing Concorde though - it used to fly over ED :)
  12. *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > You're pressing it too hard on the side of your > head, Sue. xxxxxxxxx :)) Funny you should say that, I did recently have an awful headache in one particular bit of my head, and subsequently discovered it was the button on my quick-hair-dry towel thing pressing on it, duh :))
  13. If mobile phones are not harmful, how come I have bad earache on the side I have used the phone (which continues for days afterwards) whenever I use one for any length of time? And yes I try not to .... but had to at work recently, and couldn't have it on the loudspeaker which is what I would do at home. Mobiles have not been around long enough yet for any long-term effects to become apparent. The Guardian last Friday had another article saying "The head of a leading cancer research institute has reignited the controversy over the health risks of using mobile phones by sending a warning to staff that they shuld limit the use of the devices because of the risk of cancer." This was Dr Ronal Heberman, of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. It's far too early to become complacent just because there's no evidence yet. :-S

  15. NatashaD Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Would anyone have protested if you'd said a gang of white guys? I doubt it. FFS. > xxxxxxxxxx Not very likely anyone would have mentioned their skin colour if they'd all been white, is it, NatashaD. That's the point. FFS :-S
  16. Any reason why this is a new thread? There's already a thread on Hoopers food!
  17. Peckhamgatecrasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > That's one customer for the blow fish then? xxxxxxx :))
  18. We were there last night, had a great roast accompanied by good beer :) Apparently Hoopers are (is?) having a beer festival next month, hooray :)) :)-D
  19. Yep - Saturday night, and they do indeed appear to be refurbishing! Sorry for suggesting you were putting up prices, Lloyds :-$
  20. I was passing here (Maceys/Lloyds, not Sainsburys!) early this evening and saw they had emptied many of their shelves - does this mean they have taken everything away to reprice it(upwards)? :-S
  21. Yeh or that stall down the hill from Hampstead tube, can't remember if it's waffles or pancakes, savoury and sweet, yumyum (but always seem to be very long queues)
  22. PeckhamRose Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > But also, if these things don't bother you and > they certaibnly don't bother me, Nunhead Cemetery. xxxxxxx Yeh, Nunhead Cemetery is brilliant, provided you don't fall down any open graves of course - all ivy and gothic and bits of broken statues :) And lots of birds.
