I have a Miele washing machine which I'm very happy with, but I did get it at a good price when it was on offer. No bleeping, and it has a twenty minute wash at 40 degrees which is fine for most things, but lots of other programmes plus you can give things an extra spin if you want to save on drying time. It has never gone wrong (I'm probably tempting fate by saying that!) I would never use John Lewis again for electrical goods (or laptops). It would take too long to describe all the reasons why, but I have given them too many chances now, and never never again. For my fridge freezer I checked out the models physically in John Lewis, but then bought from AO. And no I didn't think that was unfair of me, because the customer service I got from John Lewis on that occasion also was abysmal 😡

I have tried three practices in the three decades I've lived here, and I've found my current one (The Gardens) to be the best of the three. However obviously you need to be in the catchment area of the practice you would ideally like to move to. Is there any reason why you won't name the practice you are moving from? It might be helpful for other people?

Royal Mail Late Deliveries and the price we have to pay

That's a bit weird, because there isn't an "East Dulwich Delivery Office" any more, is there? Items are certainly delivered (or not) to East Dulwich, but the actual Delivery Office is in Peckham! -

The last councillor who posted on here was given a very hard time by some other members of the forum, so I'm not surprised if he gave up trying to help. It must be a hard enough job without that. -

Sod's law. Yesterday I got a refund from Amazon. Today the item arrived (supposedly 24 hour tracked, posted in August), along with the eBay book for which I have already had a refund, and another book which I had completely forgotten I had ordered (also in August). They must be slowly getting through the backlog .... -

We went here quite early tonight (6.30). We did book, just in case, but it wasn't necessary (though it was quite full by the time we left). The food was very tasty, with fresh veg. Service was friendly and welcoming. We will be back, and work our way through the menu! -

Does she take bookings, or is it first come first served? -

The trouble is, a lot of organisations insist on using the post. I can understand that bank cards etc have to be physically delivered, but when it is purely information, surely they could email or text it, or send a secure message via their website, or some other way? When I have told people that if they insist on using the post I may not get it for months, or at all, they just ignore me. I know it isn't just this area that is having such terrible delays, even with tracked items, so why hasn't that sunk in with the organisations sending out important and time critical information? And as for parcels and packets, I have just received refunds from both Amazon and eBay for items which haven't arrived. But I'd rather have had the effing items in the first place. The eBay one was a secondhand book which I've now got to seek out again and hope it arrives within the next year or so 😡 -
The CPT used to be our local. I still miss it. The Castle is in some ways similar though! The other two you suggest are a bus ride away (depending on where you live, obviously!)

Royal Mail Late Deliveries and the price we have to pay

I thought I was so careful, and in a moment of distraction I didn't realise a text was spam and clicked on a link on a text, supposedly from Royal Mail telling me they couldn't deliver an item due to an incomplete address. Luckily I belatedly smelled a rat - some of the wording should have warned me before - and I deleted all the personal information I was about to send off. The thing is, some of that info was already in there, including my phone number (well I suppose they had to have had that, in order to text me, but that didn't occur to me at first). Because I'm waiting for so much stuff, I hadn't bothered to check if the tracking reference was genuine. Screenshots attached. Be careful out there, people. Just read it again, and I can't believe I was so stupid (and just thankful I wasn't even more stupid 🙄) -
Humdinger appears to have returned under another name. Pathetic. Edited: Sorted. Thank you admin x

Continuing on this thread to save starting another one. So I was over a week in bed, then I felt better and was out and about for a few days. Then yesterday I suddenly felt rubbish again, really tired and ill and couldn't go to a quite important meeting in the evening. I'm not looking for sympathy, I just wonder whether anybody else has had something similar lately? And if so how long it lasted? I'm assuming there isn't anything much I can do about it except rest. Edit: I'm not sure why the ever-charming Humdinger finds my (and others' non funny posts) so amusing. They must lead a very sad life. (admin edit - removed)

Royal Mail Late Deliveries and the price we have to pay

I am waiting for a number of things which were posted weeks ago. For some of them I have tracking numbers. According to the tracking, one item was collected from the sender on 24 August and delivery has not yet been attempted. FFS. Unless I've missed it, there now seems to be no way to complain to Royal Mail except by phoning. I phoned the other day and got a recorded message saying there was a sixty minute wait 😮 so I didn't bother. I spoke to our postie yesterday and he said there was a backlog and that my things should be delivered "later today" (ie yesterday). Obviously they weren't. I have no idea if he genuinely believed that. I don't know why my previous post was so amusing, but I am now going to email Helen Hayes, because the situation is appalling. And I will copy in the CEO of Royal Mail, if I can find the correct email address which I think someone posted on here once. Yes, and all these problems started with the privatisation. -
Sorry if I offended you, but as your original post said you tended to stick with your usual veggie pasta and curries, and you said you often got stumped for anything else, I assumed you (and your husband) hadn't done much research or had any recipe books! My apologies! Happy to lend you my veggie recipe books if you haven't already got them! As I said above, I find the Bosh books very good.

Yes, I saw a bat in my garden at dusk a few weeks back. Only the second time I've seen one there in the over thirty years I've lived here, but obviously I'm not permanently sitting in my garden! I live off North Cross Road. I do garden for wildlife, and there is a lot of greenery in the garden (apart from under the bird feeders where wood pigeons have scratched up all the plants 😢) , but I have no idea what attracted the bat - possibly flying nocturnal insects?

Missing Bank Card and Unauthorised Accounts
Sue replied to Marmattee's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ah. So it wasn't a completely new card, it was a replacement card for one he already had? And that was what the fraudsters were trying to get sent when they made the original phone call? -

But then the bank sent out another card although they had been told that the first one hadn't been requested? -
Hopefully some of the above suggestions have been helpful? Forgive me if this sounds rude, but Is it just me wondering why your husband can't do some research on veggie recipes and then try them out by cooking them himself?! There are loads and loads of veggie and vegan recipes online, with comments by people who have tried them.

I don't understand the first part of this. If your partner hadn't made the original phone call requesting a credit card, a) how did the caller get through security and b) why was another card sent out if your partner hadn't requested one in the first place? Have I misunderstood? -
There was a thread on the forum a couple of years (I think) back about The Gardens. Several people including myself had had problems there, and we had all moved elsewhere.

The dentist near the Post office on Lordship Lane takes NHS patients. Dulwich Dental Clinic. I moved there from The Gardens because of a bad experience with a new dentist there, and so far it's all been fine. The dentist in North Cross Road also takes NHS patients. I went there once during Covid, but I wasn't happy with the lax protective arrangements in the small waiting area.

The Gardens are doing flu jabs this Saturday morning. Just turn up (if you have had an invite, obviously! They do check 🤣) It was very efficient last year, so I expect the same this year.
