  1. Queen Mary? When was that? Surely the prefabs must have been built after the war, so after 1945? And surely it would have taken some time for the garden to mature? And the person who lives there now and is such a keen gardener would hardly have been born then?
  2. Later on the garden is full of dahlias!
  3. I had the scan yesterday. I went on the bus and found the location of the mobile units in the car park a bit hard to find. I'm sure last time I went to an NHS thing in the Asda car park it was much easier. Maybe I got a different bus which stopped nearer the units, or maybe they were in a different place in the car park (I got a 63, but the 78 also goes there, via a different route). Arrived to find a note flapping about on the locked door "back at 2pm" (I was early for a 2.15 appointment) so I went shopping in Asda (found some things I'd been unable to get locally, and impressed with their prices, so rather chuffed! I will investigate Asda deliveries!) The steps up to the reception unit were alarmingly rickety. Given the age group involved I would have thought they could have provided something better than large notices telling you to be careful! I presently have a leg problem and found getting up there a bit worrying. I dont know how people with worse mobility issues manage, particularly as the metal door remains closed and there is no way to attract anybody's attention. Once in I was seen immediately. You are taken to a separate unit for the scan itself, which at least had a ramp up to it. The scan was quick and easy, though I'd have appreciated some prior warning about a disembodied voice telling me when to hold my breath and when to breathe. I should have read the booklet again before I went! I had to ask when and how I would get the results. I said hopefully not by post, or I might never get them! They said someone would phone, which seems a bit odd, and in 2 or 3 weeks (I think). I stopped smoking around twenty years ago, so fingers crossed! Glad to be getting checked out though. I think it's an excellent initiative.
  4. I thought that section was just people moaning about cyclists and LTNs 😂 Wouldn't occur to me to look there about things like bus diversions (but I will now!)
  5. The horrible smell thing sounds like Covid. I think there are a large number of different symptoms which different people get, including all those you describe. As someone said above, regardless of whether it's Covid or not, it's not wise or kind to mix with other people when you have symptoms of any kind which could be catching, unless you are sure they are due to hay fever. Apart from the discomfort and inconvenience to them, in older people or people with a compromised immune system, catching what you have got could be extremely serious or even fatal. I hope you feel better soon.
  6. I was nearly hit from behind a few days back by a young man on a Lime bike speeding along the pavement in Lordship Lane (if I had moved slightly to the left he would have hit me). After continuing along the pavement for a bit, without looking to see what was coming he veered into the road right in front of a car, which luckily didn't hit him. I have no idea what the answer is, but I'm genuinely surprised more people aren't injured or killed in incidents involving poor cycling behaviour.
  7. I had it for the second time earlier this year. I was still testing positive for some time after the (unpleasant) symptoms had gone. I isolated until I tested negative. I think that was longer than what is advised, but I didn't feel comfortable mixing with other people knowing that I was still positive. Unfortunately, for whatever reasons (cost of tests? Need to work? Thoughtlessness? Selfishness? Certain their symptoms can't possibly be Covid?)) I think some people with symptoms neither have a test nor isolate, which is why it is apparently still spreading so freely (judging by the number of people I know who have had it this year). I hope you feel better soon, Alice. Take good care of yourself and rest. You could ask your GP or phone 111 if you aren't sure what to do or when to stop isolating? I think 111 still have a dedicated Covid helpline, judging by the first recorded message you get when you phone them (you dial 1 for Covid advice, I think).
  8. Ok, thanks! The 'contact us" link is a bit lost beneath a load of other stuff, but also thanks for pointing it out! The picture you've shown isn't what I see when I post, btw - I almost always use the app on my mobile.
  9. Complain to your councillor and copy to Helen Hayes (or whoever your MP is), and the local paper. The last two won't be able to do anything I imagine, but it might make the councillor put pressure on. What a farce. What's the point of having a noise control department if they don't actually do anything to control noise?
  10. Not a charity, but if nothing else works out, I have had takers for odd bits of unused fabric by advertising them free on here.
  11. As suggested above, keep a record of the noise, with dates and times, if you aren't already, to show to the noise team when/if they turn up. See if you can record it from your house, eg on an app on your mobile (eg Dolby) Ask your neighbours if it is causing them problems as well, and if so ask them to keep records as well, and coordinate calls to Southwark when it is actually happening. Surely you must have some idea of where it's coming from? If you can bear to, if it's still going on in the early hours, couldn't you walk around and pinpoint the house? There can't be much other noise at that time of day? Good luck!
  12. We had a lovely friendly wave from her when we passed by the other day! Looking forward to the opening!
  13. I got ticket 101 last time I was there 🤣
  14. The private message box underneath his post above might give a clue..... 😀
  15. I had the assessment phone call today. It was bang on time, the person was very friendly, I was told I was eligible for the CT scan, and I got an appointment next Wednesday 😮 So it just seems to be the first part of the process which is really inefficient, unless it has improved since I started the thread.
  16. Octopus is good, in my experience . Welcome to East Dulwich, btw!
  17. Well, given that their whole IT system went down for ?weeks? not so long ago, I can't help but feel that any temporary delays due to installing a new system are preferable to that happening again .... If what I was told then is right, nobody could access patients' information or medical records, and nobody knew who had an appointment when, or who it was with, or what it was for. I think test results weren't available either, though I may be wrong. It was chaos. I was just thankful my appointment was for something relatively minor, though I was taken aback to be asked why I was there ....
  18. There are issues where a few stamps are just not enough. And Royal Mail needs to get its act together to prevent needing to compensate people in the first place. The number of people who actually complain is just the tip of a very large iceberg of people in this area who have been getting appalling service ever since the delivery office was moved from Sylvester Road to Peckham. That's on top of the more general problems with delivery delays all over the country.
  19. Giant nocturnal bumble bee?
  20. Admin, are you there?!
  21. Isn't the hospice shop on Lordship Lane taking books? I took some there today, with some other things. They sell paperback fiction for £2.50.
  22. I'd be interested to know this as well, as I'm thinking of moving from Plusnet
  23. This is appalling behaviour by the job centre, though sadly I am not surprised. Could he not appeal? Alternatively, could his MP help? I once won an appeal against a job centre decision, so it is possible!
  24. Whilst I agree, some places do accept a Freedom Pass as ID, so it can be confusing. But refusing to provide another form of ID when asked does seem rather counter-productive in this case, if it means you don't get your parcel 🙄
  25. I was living on a farm, but the farmers were far too nice to do that (and far too busy!)
