The CDC report seems to be talking about medical facilities caring for seriously ill patients rather than people out in the open air. However, there does seem to be ambiguity about precisely what "airborne" means. This is only Wired so a journalistic summary of the arguement: https://www.wired.com/story/they-say-coronavirus-isnt-airborne-but-its-definitely-borne-by-air/ "Notably, while the joint WHO-China mission report published in late-February said that although airborne particles were ?not believed to be a major driver of transmission,? it noted that such a mode ?can be envisaged if certain aerosol-generating procedures are conducted in health care facilities.? Julian Tang and his colleagues have created a visualization of the breaths exchanged by two people in conversation standing three feet apart. Most of the time, the puffs of air they let out remain separate; but portions of their exhalations do sneak from each person?s breathing space into the other?s. "Given all this uncertainty, some experts say there needs to be better public messaging on the spread of the new coronavirus. ?Crowded public transport where people can breathe on each other may also lead to transmission of infection,? Tang says, echoing public-health advice that, while widespread, may not be getting as much emphasis as hand-washing. Milton agrees, adding that it might be wise to shut off air-recirculation systems in cars, which could potentially spread the pathogen among passengers." I agree that the big crowds of cyclists on the superhighways queuing at the lights wouldn't fit a definition of "social distancing". The truth as always seems more nuanced than appears at first glance.

CV is not airborne so panting shouldn't be a problem. I find Jason Leitch CMO of Scotland good and I hope that a clip of him saying "the virus is not airborne" is here: at about 2.51, it's their pinned tweet. Essential workers are essential and this is mostly about them. These are to help someone get to St George's Tooting for example. https://cycle.travel/map/journey/145302 either should help someone who wants to cycle to stay alive. Clearly there is a faster alternative for anyone who is OK with CS7 which will probably be more crowded. That is here: https://cycle.travel/map/journey/145192 Southwark Cyclists have cancelled our social rides because of a fear that regular riders will find social distancing difficult. I'm with you on the dangers........

sometimes riding on pavements is permitted and will be marked as permitted. But it should always be considerate. Not stopping at pedestrian red lights is not permitted and never considerate. ------------------------------------------------------- > And please don't ride on the pavements or go > through red lights on pedestrian crossings - I > know its scary at times, but please remember those > of us on foot too!

In the new world of lockdown, some people are thinking of beginning to cycle. There are many reasons why a person might want to cycle for the first time. If that's you, post here or DM me. I shall not inquire into your personal reasons. I shall try and help you. Key workers (guidance here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision) can get free cycle training from cycle confident https://cycleconfident.com/covid19/ There are many other reasons why people might wish to cycle as their form of permitted exercise. I belong to Southwark Cyclists who are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Our website is here https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk. Our email address is [email protected]. If we can assist you, just let us know.

Controlled Parking Zone - West Peckham
Sally Eva replied to trinidad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I expect they are aware of the glitch by now but in case they aren't you could tell them: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/complaints-comments-and-compliments -
If you are looking to save the planet, you could buy a washing machine and air dry your clothes, either on the washing line or one of these https://sheilamaid.com Alternatively buy two separate machines. Combining them reduces efficiency at both. Also the increase in dryness out of the washing machine doesn't improve much above 1200 revs.

For anyone cycling, the route from East Dulwich to the Elephant is very good, direct and safe. Loads of parking when you get there. I shall probably do it like that tomorrow as long as the weather isn't too vile. It's here: https://cycle.travel/map/journey/140137 -- three miles.

TfL Consultation on changes to Peckham High Street
Sally Eva replied to ed_pete's topic in The Lounge
I know what you mean. They seem to be thinking in terms of crossing PHS (much better) rather than cycling along it. The painted lanes ......well.......not very protective. I was a bit stunned to find them being painted out but that might be more realistic than leaving them there as a form of pretend. DM with where you are going from/to and we could see if we can find you a safer route BellendenBear Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks for sharing this link, we also received > paper copies earlier this week. Council parks to charge ?2ph parking fee from 1 April
Sally Eva replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They have a month from the date of the decision to appeal. Even if they just write "this is wrong, I want to appeal" this safeguards their appeal rights. If they are past the month they have "specific grounds" rights to appeal for another year. They should go into the CAB and get help. The DWP assessors are constantly overturned at Tribunal -- most people who appeal, win. they can retain their blue badge if they have severe mobility problems whether they get PIP or not. -

People who have to drive and cannot catch a bus can get a blue badge and they will not have to pay. A blue badge is automatically given to those with Personal Independence Payment mobility allowance and also to those who can show a medical need. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/disabled-parking/blue-badge -

Dulwich Hamlet: future assured?
Sally Eva replied to Sally Eva's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
thanks. I wasn't really asking about profitability. The problem with being owned by property developers is that hardly any football club will be as profitable as covering the ground with housing. the second par explains all. I hope Southwark stay strong. -
How assured is it? Meadow still own the land -- is that right? All I can find on-line is that a deal was brokered in 2018 but not any real detail. There doesn't seem to be any follow-up news. How secure is the club?

Redelivery to east dulwich post office - don?t do it!

singalto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I found a missed delivery card from RM: I was in. > They didn?t even bother to ring the bell! I have > booked a redelivery for Saturday. Who knows if it > will turn up! This happened to me and I asked a postman why it had happened. He said that if the postman on your round that day is new or a stand-in (ie not a regular guy) they don't give him a parcel (in case he nicks it) but just tell him to deliver the card. I'm with IlonaM myself. They are paid to deliver it. I expect them to deliver it to my home. -
Further to Renata, if you feel it may be a council property (ie maybe part of council block or estate) then mentioning the idea of illegal subletting to her should improve her behaviour -- anyone who does this can lose their council property. If she tries to evict you, then you would be legally aidable depending on your income. As I say, try the council's private tenancies team, Citizens Advice or Shelter.
-
Was she living in the same house as you? If so you are a licensee rather than a tenant. https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/tenancy_deposits/return_of_a_lodgers_deposit If she was not, you are an assured shorthold tenant (even if you did not have a tenancy agreement) and your deposit should have been legally protected. https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/tenancy_deposits All this can be complicated. Contact the council which has a private tenancies team aimed at dealing with stuff like this and also the CAB and Shelter who can help.

post a photo here and ask people not to buy it. Keep an eye on Gumtree (lots of stolen bikes resold there) If you would like me to, I will post a pic on our cycling group and ask people to keep an eye open for it

Car broken into twice in past week
Sally Eva replied to Peckham Park's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've always wondered whether "no tools left in this van.........etc" doesn't just draw attention to the fact that the van is used to move tools and it might be worth breaking into to check if they have really gone -
Local school needs funding to continue with counselling service.
Sally Eva replied to alice's topic in The Lounge
I feel quite sympathetic but as it stands the appeal has too little detail to be confident it is not a scam. Its authenticity is uncheckable. -

I don't think I would consider doing this unless I knew which school it was and they were making a parallel appeal on their website. -
Support our own East Dulwich tree sellers
Sally Eva replied to christine56's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The street sellers "pay a lot of money for their street licences" to Southwark. Presumably they make a profit. Treeamigos may be these guys: http://www.treeamigos.org/the-tree-amigos/ Presumably they make a profit too. We can all make up our own minds.
