Mayor of London Consultation - cleaner air
Sally Eva replied to Butland's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Do you have a theory why 20mph is a difficult speed to maintain but 30mph is easy? -
I tell a lie. There is this https://littlevillagehq.org which links back to the Southwark Little Village Crowdfunding page but does have info which can be checked such as a charity number and a link to a church in Wandsworth.

This is a crowdfunding page with lots of heart warming pictures and anecdotes. I can't find any link to Little Village Southwark or to any Little Village community anywhere else on the web. Wikipaedia identifies Little Village as a rock band. Before you ask people for money I think you should provide some ID for your cause and some sort of track record.

Shouting screaming and crying should not last a couple of hours. Sounds as if this mother is under too much stress whatever the reason may be. Try talking sympathetically to her to establish what the problem is and then that will help you decide what to do next.

Best Route from SE27 to SE22 Goodrich Road
Sally Eva replied to theboycj's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think you need to be more specific about your starting point and proposed mode of transport. -
you appear to have been right outside the school. I take it these boys were wearing Harris uniforms? maybe write to the Head saying what a poor impression such events make and how they are likely to persuade parents who observe them (ie local people) not to send their boys to the school? True and might encourage them to take a greater interest in their pupils' welfare

Dog Barking Non-stop in Garden

I think turning traffic using the green man phase as part of their turning phase is standard. It certainly happens all the time at the traffic lights near us. The answer is to put the green man phase at a different point in the sequence when all the traffic has stopped ie before the desired turning phase. Part of the problem does sound as if it is lack of enforcement of the box junction ie traffic is queueing through the yellow box rather than leaving it clear. Lots of other problems too. Can I suggest that people post their problems/horror stories to the council monitoring survey which is linked above? Possibly the junction should be returned to road-work management until the re-surfacing is completed and it will then be possible to tell how much of the problem is confusion over road layout, inconsiderate driver behaviour or intrinsically poor design.

you can report illegal parking to Apcoa who manage it for Southwark. Their direct line phone no is 0207 708 8587 Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > rahrahrah Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Same all over ED, ridiculously long lines > > appearing. Someone went through our bins - has this happened to you?
Sally Eva replied to megmj's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I watched someone do this to next doors bins. It was very early morning. He was very drunk and carrying bags of refuse already. He went through the flat bins next door taking out bags, sorting them (I couldn't see any rhyme or reason to the sorting) and tossing bags and their contents around. He did this for at least 10 minutes and then I stopped watching. I went out later and picked it all up. I considered if I should have done anything more about it and couldn't think what it might be. I could call the police. i could go out and shout at him. Watching, that felt as if it would have been cruel. He was obviously mentally very ill and unsteady on his feet. One of his arms might have been withered and it hung by his side. He was singing loudly and tunelessly to himself. He had apparently been out all night. He was timid -- he saw me watching and didn't open our bin. I couldn't bring myself to frighten him or drive him away -- where would he go? His sorting, tossing and searching felt like demented but personally satisfying behaviour. Symbolic of something in his mind. he was unforgettable. This was in Linden Grove about maybe a month ago. -

Phone Apcoa who do Southwark Parking Enforcement on 0207 708 8587 and tell them. I think that when they park in bus stops they automatically get tickets -- the buses photograph them and enforcement is automatic. That's what I was told when I tried to report a car parked in a bus stop to Apcoa and it might be true. Bus stop parking is very unusual. But I think it's always worth reporting -- it shows the public cares.

If the light is not on, try phoning 101 and telling the police. Alternatively try the civil aviation authority. They control helicopter routing and could be expected to care whether cranes are lit or not The Battersea crash is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vauxhall_helicopter_crash Two people died

I am the secretary of southwark Cyclists which is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. We have suggested to the council that they point out aspects of a CPZ which affect people who do not have cars such as cleaner air, safer streets and less noise. Only people who live in the proposed zone are consulted but there are wider social gains. If, say, someone previously drove from Penge to Denmark Hill, parked and caught the train, then they will be contributing to pollution on that journey and increasing the (already dangerous) congestion at that station. I think the council tends to see the whole thing as about parking because that is such a controversial subject and seems to make people very angry whereas pollution and street danger are just seen as a facts of life.

Hi Blah Blah, Yes, of course, every word of that is true and the Southwark Food Bank are speaking up for themselves. The poverty that food banks are aimed at is certainly not self-induced. What SFB say is an interesting insight into the problems they face trying to cater to the need and how central actual cash is to what they do. I am very open to the idea that I am wrong. BWs Sally

this money not food sounds right and I have been trying to work out why I don't think it is. I belong to two organisations which are allowed to distribute food vouchers and the process is very tightly controlled. Before someone is given a food voucher a great deal is known about them and how they came to be in this position. No one who deals with people when they are this vulnerable and unable to manage their own affairs gives them money. Food is what they need, a roof over their heads and a bed to put under that roof. Some places (like the 999 Club in Deptford) give free hot meals and a warm room to eat them in. Donate money to the organisations yes probably (Centrepoint, St Mungo's) but to the needy food is probably better.

Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not much point it being illegal if there are no > sanctions and no policing of it. > > Much like the 20 speed limit :( You are right. We all know this. Drivers ignore the law unless there's a policeman behind them. Why is this? We don't steal each others possessions unless there's a CCTV camera in the living room. The Daily Mail doesn't condemn law-enforcement and burglar alarms as "war on the naturally light-fingered"

Peckham Rye path behind old containers

Tell your councillor, Renata Hamvas, and she will sort out whether they have permission to do this. Or councillor Barrie Hargrove chair of Parks and Leisure who can get a parks officer to check what's going on -
Stranded car at entrance to Crawthew Grove

If it was higher the car would have been quite badly damaged from the impact but would have been easier to extricate I should think. So the road would have been blocked for a shorter time. It is black so I guess it could be painted a brighter colour. -
Stranded car at entrance to Crawthew Grove

I've just looked at the image. This sort of obstruction is intended to stop vehicles cutting across or parking on the pavement. You see them at the edges of roads, mostly to stop lorries cutting the junction by driving across part of the pavement or parking on it. This was presumably what the supermarket delivery van was attempting to do. The aim is often to stop the motor vehicle using a space too narrow for them to take at speed or even too narrow go through at all. What was your friend attempting to do? -
