I wish (to DOG) that I had been on your train yesterday (and that I could STOP talking like ALAN)! I think you attract the BIZARRO :)

  3. Who let you out of the prioryt kennels? If it is really you. Personally I'm not convinced about the authenticity without the signature photo...
  4. Annette - if you really did take that photograph of her on the train....where's the peg?
  5. "I'll have that poncey looking one on the right (with the cherry) thanks" Quack quack.

The trouble with people who are quick to take offence all the time means that when it is possibly justified, no-one can be bothered to listen anymore. That thread where the lyrics to a Pogues song were complained about spring to mind.
  11. Brendan Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Whatever it does to a goose it can't be as > painfull as trawling through 5 pages of this guff > would have been. Oh piffle Brendan. On 'serious' threads, the guff usually begins about 5 pages in whereas on 'silly' threads its often the opposite. And binarystar, I couldn't agree more iwith what you've just said.
  12. No, I don't think you're being inflammatory. What I meant was that my initial understanding of the OPs question was very simplistic - eg. is there access to water. Whereas after reading your response I gathered the original intimation was more along the lines of should they be sorting it out themselves, which could be perceived in a negative way. Apologies if I have still misunderstood. I agree that civil wars and political unrest are key factors in hindering help to the famine and drought stricken areas.
  13. Ah thank you Marmora Man! Now I understand why the OP hoped the question wasn't 'too inflammatory', didn't get that bit before.
  14. Mick Mac made that point about the differences quite succinctly a few pages ago. Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Loz. 15. By the time I managed to type that there's been about 5 more posts! Well all I can say is good on Tom for putting it on the EDF as he did politely ask for people's views. I agree that a campaign against battery chickens would be better and perhaps Tom will take on this feedback (if he isn't already involved in that).
  16. Mockney, I understand what you're getting at here along with Ted's point about drawing the line somewhere. I could be wrong but ... my sense is that Tom isn't trying to take on an oh-so-principled stance on everything rather that he's trying to tackle animal welfare issues and has chosen a specific practice and has directed it a local level is all. I agree that the tone or stance can come across as someone else said, 'holier than thou' but I think he is genuinely trying to make changes albeit in small steps (not saying I agree with the approach and proposed boycott of local restaurant). I have never been to KFC but have happily eaten in Nandos and wondered at the back of my mind where they get their chickens from, never bothered to find out even and that hasn't stopped me occasionally eating there so there's a line I have crossed.
  17. Heinz, the trouble is the water table is too low. If they were able to dig shallow wells, groundwater contamination would cause even more problems.
  18. Thomas, how can you aspire to a foie gras-free East Dulwich if you're only targetting restaurants? What about the local shops that sell it? What about those who don't aspire to a foie gras-free ED? Do they have to campaign to have it? What's next? I have never tried this stuff and never will. I can't understand why any (normally) conscientious consumer of good meat products where ethics and standards are important, would buy this. Cannot read strafers links but finding I am agreeing with Otta. Seems like the issue has now become more about Thomas lobbying local business to stop offering a product rather than about foie gras itself. (Going off topic, cannot believe I'm discussing rights to eat foie gras locally when I hear about the famine in Somalia) :(
  19. (apologies in advance) my treacle thread> your treacle thread katie Jnr

Absolutely, think that Tom raising awareness is a good thing too. > > However, personally, not sure if boycotting a > restaurant that chooses to have it on the menu is > asking a bit too much.. Agree. There are also local shops selling foie gras. Will you target them also? So why aim for one (albeit French) restaurant? The others who have agreed to not have it on their menu aren't specifically French either. Raise awareness about it and less people are likely to order it anyway and those that do will probably never be persuaded otherwise.
  21. Watched it properly now. Agree with otta too.
  22. My laptop decided to 'die' the other day ( vertical stripes and half a Windows error message) rendering it useless ( to me anywat) so can't see half the links as before. So I will say 'whatever Loz said' as I usually concur.
  23. Yes! I think you're right maxxi!!! Btw, was this film shot exclusively around here? The Blue cafe perhaps? Thanks in advance. katie
  24. Strafer? Never heard of him/her, sorry.
