I hope to god I won't be so bored that I spend all today reading this, quite frankly, crummy thread.

What a misleading title for a thread! Get in here Mr Medic - and drag that drinking-in-the-park LM with you for that thread of hers about the jocks whilst you're at it ;-)

I just realised what has changed about this place recently ish? It never used to have a hotel sign at all then it had a sign outside on the pavement in front, rather less noticeable. But it now has a much larger sign outside on the front above the windows. I have seen quite a few people taking photos of the sign but have never spotted the infamous man with parrot on Uplands Rd yet B)

Frankito Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ottie, no-one is making the comparison of both > events other than you... There is and has been no comparison of events. But levels of people's reactions and outpourings of grief? Yes.

That's okay about names, whenever I go to curry club, I tell them my name is Annette Curtain. I have long suspected that HonaloochieB is masquerading as the Chief Bhuna. So see you tomorrow, er, Ted? -

Frankie - no you don't! Just come along! I cannot remember when I first plucked up courage to go to one but I'm pretty sure I hadn't met anyone yet (maybe karter or hibbs?). Curry places are great as they are so informal and the atmosphere is relaxed. Chief Bhuna, that reminds me, a certain lovely forumite who is currently offline asked me yesterday to let you know she will like to come along tomorrow. -

What insight and knowledge do you possess on whether anyone else on here knows addicts or not.

I have found that some places around here stop serving Sunday lunch from anywhere between 3-5 ish. Some places I have known to sell out of Sunday roasts as early as 2pm though sure that's not the usual. Good luck.

zeban Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's all sad news, end of! jeez you people are > making me so angry. End of??* Okay everyone, Zeban has spoken. No need to have your own opinion or thoughts, eh? Sheesh. Where did anyone say either news wasn't sad? (That's a rhetorical question btw). * Edited to add: in the style of straferjack on the foie gras thread when dealing with those who serially miss the point.

Sorry, I don't even know where the Ivy House is but doesn't sound like its open for lunch if not mentioned on website and phone number brought no joy? Someone else on here must be able to help??

Me too Otta and what Rosie said on the other thread resonated with me. Of course no-one wishes to hear about anyone's death. But 85 young people being gunned down in cold blood is something that's so difficult to comprehend whilst sadly for Amy Winehouse, its not as difficult to understand given troubles with drugs and alcohol. That's not to say its any less sad and I feel for her family but people's differing reactions including all the coverage and status updates, texts etc feel at odds (to me anyway). I don't think we are so much comparing the sad death of one person with the death of many so much as comparing the reactions to each by people who don't know either. If that makes sense.

Michael - out of interest, why do you think there have been problems in the past? And welcome to EDF.

Thomas - don't forget potential tomato theft :) (btw, can you not grow some in pots or a window box or share an allotment or something?) Some supermarkets do sell good British (from East Anglia) tomatoes at a fairly reasonable price. Just don't put them anywhere near the fridge when you get home. I think its Morrisons that do these so you don't have to splash out at some of the pricier delis.

Adam999 - I can't access the review in Google maps that you mention but I'm struggling to believe this is a genuine review (could be wrong though). The reason why: if anyone needed a hotel in ED they'd presumably search online for one if none had been recommended personally. This place doesn't show up in a search. Alternatively, if you simply happened to walk past it looking for a place to stay, you'd probably not bother as it really doesn't seem like a hotel and there's no visible 'reception' either. So that makes me wonder where the 'reviewer' actually went in order to have 'noticed the dirt and the smell' as they claim. I don't think it is a hotel, possibly its a hostel and as far as I am aware has never caused any problems (unless you count surprise from passers-by when they spot the 'hotel' sign outside its less than salubrious exterior).

Haha yep it was bacon sandwiches that made my younger brother fall off the veggie wagon (after being brainwashed by me when I used to be veggie. He had also agreed to save all his pocket money to contribute towards a horse that I wanted.) Those were the days.
-
Brawn and haslet have been around for years and used to be really inexpensive, as anyone with even a slight knowledge of butchery will tell you. No-one seems to know about cuts or types of meat anymore since the demise of butcher's shops and the rise of supermarkets and plastic packaged flavourless rubbish.

I agree - one of the most beautiful, gentle countries I have ever been to and have worked with amazing people over the years. Very sad and shocking news.

Hey, they aren't rude ponzes/dudes in there, they are very helpful and knowledgable and will happily help you to choose wine whether its a fiver or fifty quid. They used to sell FG, not sure if they do now. Maybe 'under the counter' (JOKE). Katie Jr
