I heard they had better players back then. Disclaimer: I'm not english, I know NOTHING about football and am usually not interested in it but feel I am qualified to comment upon it for the duration of this specific tournament only ;-) I DO want to see England to win (or Spain who I picked in my team's competition). INGE LAND (tu)

Dulwich Medical Centre... bunch of ####s
katie1997 replied to sack donger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry to hear you've had such a bad experience there. I registered at DMC mainly as its convenient and I've had a very positive experience with them so far. I was apprehensive about it though as my previous surgery was so super-efficient, I doubted I'd be lucky enough to receive such good service again. -

Will English take over the whole world?
katie1997 replied to citizenED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
citizenED - a very good question. When I worked overseas, my whole team were all from different states with different first languagues. The local language that I thought would be their likely 'common' language wasn't, in fact , when I asked them they all replied in unison "english" as being the language that united them. -
Hi dulwichflower - I have one of those lonely planet or maybe its the rough guide books to India if you need one? Also got the 'culture shock' guide to Indai too. PM me if interested in taking them off my hands. Enjoy your travels - v.jealous, you'll have a F-A-B time for sure. x

Brendan, what train are you getting tomorrow? I think its nice when guys do that but yeah could do without the pat on the head and 'dearie' or 'sweetie' :) btw, a true English gentleman like that does exist - I know one and I'm sure he's one of a kind or a dying breed. He's 55 so I wonder if its a generation thing or is it simply due to being brought up to have good manners? anyway back to rage - the 12 bus I just got off was DISGUSTING, the smell was neither animal, vegetable or mineral. I cannot describe it. I still feel sick and I am hoping that scented candles do the trick.

its a bit of both for me.........

I think my first gig was being dragged along (!) by boyfriend at the time to see some cringe-worthy obscure, gothic band in the late 80s/early 90s. So bad I have erased it from memory :)) BEST one was the Black Eyed Peas playing outdoors in southern India to a really lovely crowd. FAB (tu)

Oh RosieH - there's nothing you can do or say if this guy is going to judge you using those 'values'. He sounds like a right wanker. Can't you just roll up late, sit on the table, smile sweetly, crack open some champagne, offer it around to the meeting and say "So - where were we?" I didn't recognise one of THE Grand Fromages who happened to be using a meeting room I had booked for MY meeting the other day and after politely giving them five minutes grace to finish up, I walked in there and sat down. Oh well....

..and those earrings she was wearing the other day. No way.

yeah...I know someone whose home wasn't worth that when she worked her socks off to buy it having moved out of council accommodation in stepney green in the 1970s. She spent many years doing lots of jobs, saving as much as she could so not everyone who inherits property at that value in todays market is born with a silver spoon in their mouth. she also bought loads of land which now would be worth even more if it was converted into land for commercial development. Good on her I say. Why should the taxman get everything she worked hard for? Agree with you on the second homes issue, that bugs me. I think the government are trying to get out of taking the blame for cutting public services by having this public consultation.

Lady Esme - I have passed the legal text to my lawyers to decipher. They will respond in due course if needs be. Hope the chauffeur is behaving himself and that you aren't using him to help you deplete all stocks of LCIC :))

not noticing any aircraft noise (after 6 months of living in ED). reading all about it on here. then noticing LOTS of aircraft noise in ED. wondering if they have recently changed their flight path to specially fly over my bedroom window at 5am (6) aren't they supposed to fly in a certain way that minimises noise? i read that somewhere so it must be true. bring back the lovely noisy garden birds please.....

Chief Bhuna - yes the indian languages are all quite similar. So if someone says they can speak 4-6 languagues...sometimes it because (I always get it the wrong way round) if you can speak Malayalam you can pick up Kanada; if you can speak Tamil you can pick up Telugu. Apparently Hindi is easier to learn than all of these. Don't know about the other types of languages and I know there are loads of others. -
Honestly, am I the only one thinking "if it had only been pickled onion flavour" none of this would have happened..... Brendan - I am quite sure I do not know what on earth you mean re:kebabs.

It can take 20 years or more to commercialise a new technology. Where's the investment coming from? What company is prepared to plough money into something at an early stage? There needs to be a mandate for legislative change before things happen on that wider scale. BP are going to donate the revenue from the oil recovered from the spill to help restore the environment and wildlife habitats. Looks like the flow of oil being recovered has now increased. Marmora Man - I'm with you here as I reckon, say Exxon (as US company), would be treated rather differently. Also, look at how Union Carbide chemicals (a US company) managed to get away with the largest pollution incident in India all those years ago.....disgraceful. edited for rubbish typing

There may be people on here who are working on environmental projects and trying to do something constructive. I'm interested to know more about the regulatory changes that will happen as a result of this incident. The shipping industry will suffer too as bookings made far in advance will be cancelled or postponed.

I tend to agree here (where serious issues are concerned). Same with wikipedia - I'm very dubious of the 'facts' on there esp. on anything technical/scientific. I don't know the answer to this but I'm guessing it was because we didn't understand the issues as much as we do now and that environmentally friendly energy sources and products hadn't been invented/developed/economically viable/understood yet? It'll take a few days for the oil & gas flow rates to stabilise in order to estimate how much will be captured by the containment system.
