Hope yours were a success. As whats been said before - simpler the better, couple of eggs, flour and milk, use butter, hot pan, squeeze of lemon juice and sugar......mmmm. Eat them warm and with lots of hungry people around (tu)
  2. I very much agree with a lot of the posts above. I would argue for bringing back Grammar schools if they offered places to pupils based on academic ability and not on the ability of their parents to pay. It would help if the schools were run by highly-qualified, well-paid teachers rather than governed by politicians/politics... I know someone who pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps (if thats the right expression)- they thrived in an environment that encouraged healthy competition after securing a place at a grammar school (this person is now in their mid-fifties, having repaid much to society as a result of an excellent schooling). Competition seems to be frowned upon these days in schools - even the language we use is afraid of saying things like 'didn't do well/needs to do better/or even you failed the test'.
  3. ...the packaging on a certain brand of crisps. When will 'they' learn that its just not right to put cheese & onion in a blue bag or salt n' vinegar in a green one. Grrr.....

KidKruger - I know it is lol While I'm here and we are on the clothing theme...guys who live in cities wearing Hunter wellies with jeans tucked in (please don't ask me to explain why) ...being asked if I want to buy mobile phone top-up vouchers in the chemist. Er..no thank you.
  5. I agree with others about two major issues: security of supply and a need for investment in alternatives/renewables. Also, we would need to get over a lot of planning obstacles for e.g. onshore wind. There isn't a shortage of oil (ok its a big..if) if you count the relatively untouched non-conventional sources but there will need to be research funding and industry investment for emerging technologies to solve the problem of cheap production, using less energy and water. And I am sure I will be corrected on this but haven't the US recently cracked 'safe' nuclear fusion ahead of European scientists? I think there will be a strong push for nuclear (not saying I agree with this approach). A step change in the way we think on energy as a whole - e.g. why do we burn fuel to run cars? The days of the combustion engine could be numbered in future with improvements on fuel cells, better battery range, early adopters to new technologies.

Hopefully.
  8. Desert island discs - the bit where they have to choose a book or song to take to the 'island'...

    CV's

Declan - I agree with the others, def don't pay for it to be done. Cannot believe how much they tried to charge you too. Someone once told me about the CV information on the Reed (Employment Agency) website. I didn't need use it in the end but it looks really good - there are CV templates, sample covering letters, cv builder tools on there - http://www.reed.co.uk/CareerTools/Default.aspx Hope this helps and best of luck.
  10. Sean and Mockney Piers - thanks so much, that does indeed help. Cheers.
  11. I don't mean to sound dim either but what is the difference between Chrome and Google? :-S I can't tell...and I use Chrome at home and Google at work!? Maybe its just not apparent to me so happy to be corrected if Chrome is much more FAB. Ruffers - hope you managed to solve the problem/errors. Cheers, K.

Thanks so much Peckhamgatecrasher, really helpful of you but I already found that but i am not on paypal is all!! So I guess not at the drinks, silly me lol:-$
  16. Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but can we donate to the forum at the drinks Georgia?? Not sure what to expect but I will love to be there, sounds like fun :))Cheers k xx

And Giggirl...every Sunday in ED feels like that LOL....:)) You could always go out and celebrate Chinese New Year instead or treat it like any other day as said above. Erm....yes there's always the rugby .....:-S Even when I was in a relationship we never "celebrated" Valentine's day in a big way but it is nice to get surprise choccies and do something fun together too. Hope you have fun whatever you decide xx
  18. Tony - so sorry don't know the legalities of this but I concur with the others, if its the wrong registration on the penalty charge notice then it shouldn't apply to you/your vehicle! I would simply ignore it as doubt if they can issue a charge based on this. Good luck and stay away from the badlands of Clapham :)

Totally agree with you on this KidKruger.

I understand better now (to think I thought we had to go to Goose Green! :-$). Good to know we are still at the early stages of this consultation. Cheers K
  21. Roll Deep Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I remember when you could buy a pack of Space > Raiders for 10p. Yes they're a whopping 25p now. Disgraceful. They sneakily bump the price up by 5p every so often - they could be 50p before we know it!;-) ...Snickers were called Marathon (but they were already called Snickers in the US).
  22. legalbeagle Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Anyhoo I can't think about it now, I want to > listen to Terry Pratchet. Woo hoo -thanks for the reminder :) p.s. I do love my (dated) ipod though...so not completely immune to the icult ;-)
  23. I don't have one either but I don't think its possible to buy a phone these days that will do nothing else but er..phone. Leaglebeagle - my limited knowledge of them is that you can add applications for pretty much anything - hear a song playing on the radio but forget the name of the band? It can tell you! Need a spirit level - it can do that! Erm...and lots more besides. I have heard that the biggest bugbear with them is that they have a low battery life. I might consider buying one if it had a magic carpet option tho :)
  24. ruffers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've seen things in shop windows in Lordship Lane. Thanks - what did they say? Any info on who organises the consultation(s)? Or future dates etc?
  25. Yes good idea - and I vote for National Sourdough Week the week after (schedule permitting and all that..)
